Charles Champagne

Charles Champagne is most likely to be encountered as an invaluable friend to the heroes, or at the worst a charming diversion. After all he is essentially a force for good, with one very disturbing exception...

Background:

CHARLES CHAMPAGNE
Traveller, inventor, philosopher and adventurer par extraordinaire! Where ever this devilishly witty character arrives he is sure to be at the heart of good conversation and witty exchanges.

Famously well travelled, Charles Champagne has fascinating wealths of knowledge at his disposal and appears to be an expert on every subject, from gossip surrounding royalty to the occult.

Often an advisor to Kings and Lords, Charles wisdom and insight makes him something of a medieval management consultant! Certainly he can offer adventurers healthy advice on dealing with troublesome foes.

All together a charming man. Except for his soul bottle collection.

Whenever Charles is quickly on the scene after a death, he can 'capture' the soul of the deceased before it passes onto the afterlife. This is achieved via ceremonial 'soul bottles' of his own devising. These captured spirits are never able to cross over to the otherside. They also provide Charles with much of extraordinary knowledge he seems to have mysteriously acquired.

Roleplaying Notes:
He is bright, witty, well educated. He is also unfailingly polite, even to those he dislikes or is going to capture.

He puffs up his chest, holds his head high, and always keeps control of the situation.

The Hall of Honour is your mark on a submission you believe is frick’n awesome — so good you would jump in front of a dragon’s breath to protect the scroll it is written on.

Bestowing HoH also highlights it on the front of the Citadel for about a day, so others see the recognition it earned.

You may bestow HoH on the same submission up to your level (with a short wait between strikes). Five distinct HoH voters raise a work to Golden.

There seems to be a good character lurking under here. Aside from collecting souls, and being a consumate scholar/courtier we know nothing about Charles.

Tell us more about him, what he has invented, or a hint of some of his adventures. Perhaps he is akin to the flamboyant Baron von Munchhausen, clad in vivid clothing and spinning tales of adventures of old where he saved the Queen of Chianti in a flying contraption of his own design.

Back to the soul bottles, it is important to know more about his hobby here. Does he think it evil, or an act of posterity, a prison or a continuance of life after death? Who would know of this, does he have any enemies for it?

    Why? Since when? For whom?

This is a bare-bones character, more of an idea than a complete person. I, personally, will give the author time to fill in the blanks before rating.

Erebus: Most people will need a bit more to properly utilize it. There are too many questions that people need guidence for, thus they will never take your idea on because it requires too much work on their part.

Thus, why we request complete and well thought out posts, instead of ideas splatted up.

A thought I had was that his various 'vintages' are utilized for their wisdom and skills. Thus he might get advice from a given bottle, or actually 'drink the soul' from the bottle to absorb its skills and knowledge for a time.

Perhaps by drinking a particular vintage he frees the spirit to move on, though a bit weaker.
