Probably could have kept this in the other thread you made already.

I changed the topic so it just doesn't read "A Poll"

The other thread isnt a poll so you cant vote. I rather see votes then people posting if they can or not.

I speak leet. Having been on the net since the days a 1.2k modem was the fastest thing around, I have seen the precursors to leet speak. It is all about typing info faster. In the days when you had to wait for text to post to the site, short phrases and odd spellings and abbreviations were required. Now, it is just annoying.

It takes longer to type in leet than it does to type regularly.

Only if you aren't used to it. I think Moonhunter is talking about the abbreviations that u so often c, which r a pain in the hind end. :) /33t zp33x 1z 4 /1+t/3 d1ff3r3n+, and definitely more time consuming to use. (By the way, for the non-leet readers, that says: Leet speak is a little different)

Very often leet speak is not realy faster. It just replaces characters for numbers....

When you realy go to sms talk as we say out here in the netherlands, you realy start replacing entire words. Makes life even harder, but it realy saves on characters.

if you know ten digit typing (fingers), normal typing is quicker as leet speak.

Personaly, I hate leet, as it is just another way to introduce a language barrier. Especialy for those that are not very strong in English.

    Yours sincerly,

    Ylorea.

    I can read it.
I can type it. Sometimes I do type it, but that's generally only to friends that I know can handle it, and when I have time to spare.

    Normally, it's just a pain.

I must say, 'tis strange to hear myself agreeing with the Captain on something. Leet, and even some abbreviations simply take longer to type. I find that nowadays, it's only used as a crutch for those who hunt-and-peck instead of blind-typing. Long gone are the days when it might have had some true usage in time-saving.

Regardless of the above, I can read it, and could probably do a passable impersonation of it, but I find it about as interesting as kissing a corpse.
