Change of Name?
#1First of all. www.strolen.com will always point here no matter what.
The thought is to use www.rpgcitadel.com as a secondary name and one that I start using. The idea was to have something more appropriate and easy to remember.
Question is, is it really more appropriate and easy to remember?
Only thing that would chage is the title of the page. From what it is to The RPG Citadel or something with the emphasis being taken off of Strolen. I feel a little selfconscience having my alias up there when the site is really a collective effort.
It was lack of creativity when the site started and I picked a favorite character name to form it round. Just thinking maybe a change should take 'Strolen' out of the limelight and put the emphasis back on the game and you efforts.
Thought I would throw this up one more time.

#2If you feel it's necessary, by all means. But I kind of like the name it's got now. We may all contribute, but you're the person who actually codes, maintains, and pays for all of this. In the end, it doesn't matter to me. Althous if we change the name, do that mean that I can't call you Fearless Leader any more?
As for the other domain name... dunno. Maye some of that tangled mass of roleplaying errata that spontaneously generates in the forums? Like articles or something.
Or monsters and randomness. -

#3I don't think the name should be changed. Look at cities, their names don't change from Jonestown just because some other people move in and build some houses, I think the same applies here. It's not egotisical, it's historical. Like Ria said, you started this with your ideas and your money, feel you should have your name on it.
I've looked around at a few other gaming sites, but none of them have the same kinda of feel like there is here. Openness. Creativity. No where else is like here and I think it should stay that way.
As for IOgre, I dunno. -

#5I think it gives the site a personal feel which it would lose with "rpgcitadel". There are countless other roleplaying sites out there with names like "rpghost" or such, so I think we should maintain our individualism. I don't think I'd ever be able to think of this site as anything other than Strolen's Citadel. In my household we've even got a verb "strolening" for when I spend ages on the computer typing plots.

#6Strolening....hehehehe
In our house we have 'computer time' and 'real time'
We haven't quite figured out a ratio between them but it is at least 5:1.
"I'll be there in five minutes."
25 minutes later I will come out of the computer room.
If on the computer and I tell her how long, she asks if that is in real time or computer time. -

#7If you own the domain, you might as well have it point here.
If you end up doing more hosting, you might want to make some of the new pages subdomains off that domain. It seems more generic, so easier for people to remember to type.
Gamecraft.rpgcitadel.com for example, is easier to memorize than strolen, especially if you are not a strolen regular. And if you point rpgcitadel to here, it won't make any real difference. -

#8If anybody likes us, he will remember the name anyway. If not... I don't care. Another pointer to the page won't do any harm I guess. And if you start seriously with that hosting, you can base it there as MoonHunter suggested.
So to sum it up (if I may be so bold), NO to renaming, but YES to another domain. -
Change of Name?
#9That is a good point. For the free hosting thing I can offer both names, whichever they desire, not that it really matters as you mentioned.
Alright, I guess it was just another one of my moods that I got talked out of. No problem. Thanks to all for keep me sane. -

I still feel a name change might be appropriate and V2.0 makes it now or never. Any last/more thoughts on a name change?
(As was mentioned, strolen.com will always get you here no matter what)

#12Well, the only thing that I can think of that hasn't been said is that many of us are Authentic Strolenites, and there is a case of at least one counterfeit Strolenite but the OCPCP hasn't been able to find any penguins associated with that one. I think that the main name shouldn't change. It sets the site apart from the random RPGfillintheblank.com's that are on the internet. -
