  1. What formats?

Has any thought been given to what formats to provide the book in?

We are doing an amazon kindle version and then perhaps an iBook version.  Any other suggestions?

Amazon supports many file formats, I assume iBooks does as well, and I would recommend selling through google play as well.

As far as file formats, I've only worked with PDF and ePub myself. I would recommend selling in both formats because of their different advantages.

I see what you mean.  I did a sample load from word  ( docx) and read it in the kindle previewing ap.  It looked like anything else I had read in kindle.  But you can also load an html version or I might use illustrator to make a PDF then load that.  The word stuff looked okay though.

ePub is essentially an html file that has been zipped, but it also has the support for including many other ancilliary files that help an ebook reader view the file (things like fonts, stylesheets, and images, and even indexes can be included in the ePub file). It is likely that whatever converter they use at amazon will try to create those automatically, but you won't have the control that you would if you did it yourself. Sigil is a good software for creating epubs.

I did read somewhere that ePub is the format to go for iBook and Nook/Barnes&Nobles. And Sigil is actually open-source/free. Axle, I think it might be worthwhile looking at.
