Notes on a Shared World issue
#1One of the things I didn't like about Thieves World was its very loose definition of magic. I propose 3 dif concrete types of magic to work from. I want to suggest one of them. Tantric sex magic(on the PG-13 side) Mages would store sexual energy for release from their eyes, very flashy, different sexual positions and partners would harness different magical effects(boy my Christian side is taking a beating here, lol), that is more or less enough definition Id like to see.
Also I repeat>>>dibs on the "Conan" of the setting, I'm thinking Zulu ish, Def African, a SOUTHERN barbarian if you will. -
Re: Notes on a Shared World issue
#2I'm not sure the setting has congealed in the slightest apart from the concept of a shared world. Thieves world is awesome, but its an example, not necessarily a prototype.
As for characters, my suggestions would be write up summaries and 'audition' them, so to speak.
I would also suggest you finish your current project :P It is soo easy to drift away at the 80% mark and never finish the 20 since something else is new and shiny.

Not drifting in the LEAST, nothing for me to do on it at the moment, 100% committed to March 1 deadline!!!!!!! -
Re: Notes on a Shared World issue
#4To clarify, I believe for shared worlds to work, there needs to be a carefully agreed upon set of guidelines, and that everyone works together to make it work.
So, I believe it premature to be staking out any areas yet.

Re: Notes on a Shared World issue
#5Agreed, Val. While it's officially one of the five themes that we will stockpiling stories on for issue 2, I noted that it's not yet a 'genuine theme' for now.
