If the translatorthingamabob was working correctly was hard to tell. The lizard-thing listened to Luna but emotion didn't register on its reptilian face.

Then it said in reply, "Sea safe, except for Vilvath-u (calibrating...calibrating..."Spongers" came the translation). Beyond are islands where dwell the People of the Symbol. Very bad. People like him." It pointed at Derek.

Heh, "very bad" coming from a reptilian, rhino-riding, whip-wielding, lizard-man slaver on Venus.

Derek meanwhile kept examining the robot. Naturally, he soon found some "buttons" and tiny switches. He couldn't help himself...pushed and flicked a few.

A low whirring noise began emanating from the robot, then it said in an eerie, metallic voice, "Greetings, Cythereans, I come from Earth. You have nothing to fear. I---"

Then it suddenly shut up again. Derek had pushed all the wrong buttons apparently.

The robot seemed as if it was "out of juice". If it were human, Derek would offer it a food-and-water pill. What do you do to revive a "tired" robot?
