self-publishing
#1This Sunday I'm going out to meet with a lady who had already self published her first novel through the Women Who Write meetup group. This is just a place-holder thread for what I will write up about the insights I will gather from the meeting. -
Re: self-publishing
#2Hmmm... not much from the meeting that's relevant for this particular venture but there're snippets:
- the Alliance of Independent Authors (basically a page containing resources for self publishing)
- something for consideration is ISBNs but then again might not be relevant if this venture stays to epub publishing only
- apparently you can ask for sample chapters with editors but this again is not relevant for now -
Re: self-publishing
#3As I recall, ISBN is only needed if you are going to sell at bookstores or places like amazon. If you only wanted to sell through, say, lulu, you can sell a print book with no isbn. I don't think an isbn is difficult to get, on the other hand. -
Re: self-publishing
#4Right, the lady did both epub and print-on-demand. She said that if you release through Amazon, they will assign you an ISBN by default but it's an ISBN that only works with Amazon epubs or just epubs. And so far as I know, that's what we're doing for this epub- not exclusive to Amazon per se but just epubs.
