Special requests
#1I just have this idea of starting a thread where we could put in special requests of each other which includes requests of stories on particular settings, characters or any other stuff you could think of as well as chatting up the possibility of a collaboration. So I would go first:
Axle, can you please write a Parna short story? You've already written a couple that's up on the Citadel and I've liked all of them. Could we have a Parna story for the epub as well please? Doesn't have to be now cos I've noticed that you've started story 2 but just sth to consider for story 3 maybe.

#2Wrote the Parna Story...
It is still pretty rough,
Question 1: Perspective
I started writing in third person but switched to first person when third person became too tricky. However part of the reason I switched it was because I had a story within a story, within a story in the frist version. Telling multilayer stories became difficult in third person. But I have removed most of the story within a story stuff, so if you think third person may roll better I'd be open to it. There may also be some points where the changes did not get made.
Question 2: Content
The story is about Sandwich, thus it may not have enough dramatic weight to keep a reader interested. Also for a story about sandwich it may be too cerebral. I may want to add more descriptions of food.
My Requests:
Morte, we could put Soulhammer story together. Morte contact us and tell us you are interested in that.
ChekaMan: Give us copy of your steam punk novel to look at. You put it in a public work folder. I think if we take out a lot of the graphic sex and some of the world building (that interesting but did not move the plot, like the cosmology) I think we might be able to put a good short story together.
Scras and Moonlake, you know what you should do. -
Re: Special requests
#3Wow, a Parna story about sandwich, I'm quite curious to read it actually. As for perspective, I think first person works well for a short story whereas for an actual novel, I would be going with third person. As for a multi-layered short story, it sounds mighty complicated. Anyway, once you feel comfortable about its state, upload it to Google and I will take a look.
I'm not feeling particularly inspired over my current story but I set a goal of finishing it by next week and we shall see. -
Re: Special requests
#4Comfortable? I am not afflicted by a lot of pride or vanity or at least my endemic pride is associated extra personal concepts...either way read away.
As for your writing, just write a story you find interesting, but remember what Dorothy Parker said (actually she may not have said it since it may have been published first in 1913 when D.P. was only 10) "I hate writing, I love having written" -

#5Request
MOON GET TO WORK!
I am gratefull with for all the time youve spent on me but you need to concintrate on your own work for a while, editing my work can wait,Ill be flooding the bandwidth again in a wile. IT CAN WAIT. I may seem like Im screaming for validation but its just my sort of 'urgancy' in everything I write.
Maybe this can help-From my own recent experiance ,drawing on highly charged emotional places in my soul, I've been FLOODED with ideas trying to jump out on to page. Dwell on incedents of your life and then turn them into work. Learn to convert that fight with your wife/ co-worker/boss into an action sequence.Remember when you aced that test and turn it into a Triumph.Your Past is all you need.Hope this helps. -
Re: Special requests
#6The causation actually runs the other way- I procrastinate on my own writing first and then get pulled into proof-reading/other admin stuff. In the early days, it was a better balance b/w me brainstorming on my own story and reading Axle's work, with both progressing more nicely. Anyway, hoping to redress the balance this week. -
Re: Special requests
#7Here's another request from Moonlake to Axle: can you write a meta fic for me on the Geomancer system for Thread? Just thinking that it's a good candidate for meta fic for Wizards cos it's a different magic system from Western fantasy. Asking you specifically cos you and Muro are the only ones I know of that delve into meta fic, I tend to exclusively write subs for the Citadel that are articles with occasional bits of narrative fic thrown in. Ideally I should have written it myself and asked you on as a collab but I've got my plate full at the moment with pieces that I want to write for issue 2+ of the epub and feeling that I need some cool down from Thread at the same time, a state of weird energy and lethargy simultaneously.
