We agreed that this will be one of the options for writers involved and being an option, I thought we should go for max flexibility in terms of how that is implemented. At this stage, I'm just throwing out ideas for a brainstorm. Here are my ideas:
    [list type=decimal]
One can select whether one wants to donate the whole portion of own proceeds or only part of it (exact up to actual dollar amount) or none at all.
One can always change this arrangement.

As long as the writers are aware this is an option, I'm not sure whats more to discuss. Those that will, will, and those that don't, don't.

Well, a few things need to be worked:

How does the author select their option?
Who is in charge of distributing the proceeds regardless of what option is selected?
What happens if the author chooses to receive their money instead of donating it, but they cannot be contacted via the agreed upon method? (I mean we are talking about what amounts to royalties from every sale of the book from here to forever, that means that there could potentially be a small amount that needs to be distributed years from now)

I'm sure there are other questions that will need to be answered, but those are the ones that come to my mind.

I think I might have a good idea on this one - but in general, I think the Authors will always get their money first and use the normal strolens donation channel, unless they grant the publisher all proceeds from the submission.  This is not as cut and dried as I thought at first :)

This is an awkward position to put authors in.

I suggest that this is taken into account with the third category I suggested on pay outs: the Community Pot that is established to handle all the misc costs associated with us doing this as a community. Art, bonuses, and possibly this donation to the Citadel. All will automatically contribute to the Pot so if there is extra and folks feel giving, they can vote to donate it...or invest it in something else that is mutually beneficial.

With the pot, it takes away the decision that needs to be made and separates that which the author earned vs. what is needed to support the publication (which could be the Citadel itself).

Just my thoughts on it though. I ALWAYS appreciate the assistance with the site (and there are many that do give and I am figuring out a thank you page), but I am just as happy to put any profits to the benefit all of us and promotes the growth of the enterprise.

I like this idea of the community pot that eliminates a lot of the paypal transactions and money transfer type of issues that Fan raised.

I assumed the community pot was a given. Each issue would need to cover the upfront costs and then distribute the remainder to the contributors. Someone still needs to be in charge of it. (Unless I am misunderstanding the community pot concept and no one is intending to actually receive their portion of the proceeds)

All right, I think I was muddled cos I was replying to multiple threads all in one go. Yes, the community pot takes away the transactions in the financial outlays of the enterprise but you're right, the transaction issues still arises if one needs to distribute actual profits to various authors/production team members.
