The All Consuming Feed
#1One thing I have never liked on this site, is the feed, and how threads can be swallowed up immediately. I noticed RP threads don't show up in the feed anymore, I suppose that's an attempt at fixing things? But of course, some of us only come on here to RP. And if one isn't interested in participating in a certain thread's discussion, then seeing 10+ replies to that thread in the feed isn't at all very helpful. I know you can go in and check it out in more detail, but usually I know I at least tend to jump in as a barbarian, with a quick check at the feed to see if any threads relevant to me have updated, if I don't see them on there, my first thought is, oh okay, nothing new. But seeing as things keeps getting swallowed up, I tend to miss out on stuff, which delays my responses since I didn't know the thread had updated.
I would suggest limiting it to only the latest reply instead, or change it so the most and latest active threads get a counter showing how many replies a thread has gotten since you last viewed it. So each thread gets one notification instead of a maximum of 15. And ideally, a form of subscription, so you can get updated about the threads that matter to you. New threads would still pop up the first time, but if you don't follow them, they would soon disappear from your personalized feed. Two feeds would also be good, one for new threads and one for unread replies to threads that matter to you. If you add in a cookie for barbarians, maybe those records could be tracked even when one is not logged in?
If you want to see an example for everything except the not logged in part, check out;
https://forum.choiceofgames.com/
Though you probably have to be logged in to see it in action, it basicly shows two numbers within a parenthesis after the New and Unread tabs, keeping track of it. They don't do everything great either though, that endlessly scrolling list is awful. -
Re: The All Consuming Feed
#2This mod is a simple install with very few options. I generally don't like to code anything in the Citadel because I don't have the patience to construct a proper plugin for it. So everything in this forum are mods provided for the forum written by others.
For now, give the links in the top right a quick try. It saves a long scroll to the bottom and brings all the posts you missed together.
Show unread posts -> http://strolen.com/guild/index.php?action=unread
Also, found a thing that does Bookmarks which I added. You will see it on the top right of the threads and a new menu item. You can pick which boards you want to mark for easy access.
Hope that helps your quick checks. If we find that we still want the rolling updates for all forums on the bottom, then we can put them back without much hassle. -

#3I see... :|
Those links at the top, when I click them I end up at this really busy page, the feed is easier to read, as it's just one color and not a bunch of symbols and stuff. Plus I don't really understand how the posts are sorted on that page, it looks all jumbled up no matter which one of them I click. I don't even see any posts I've made on them, is that intentional? Not seeing your own posts? Even when I used a sub-account.
On the top right of the threads? I see, reply, notify, mark unread, send this topic and print. What's a menue item in this context? :huh: -
Re: The All Consuming Feed
#4The link takes you to your unread posts. It is the same list as was on the bottom of the page except in more detail. If it is not sorted by time by default, click on the "Last Post" until it sorts in the order you expect. Nothing to confuse you there, just a list of unread posts since your last visit.
And another button called "ADD BOOKMARK" should be in that list. It is just to the right of the "Reply" button on my list. There are no settings to restrict who sees it or not so it should be there by default. If not, hmmmmmm.
Is there a "My Bookmarks" link in the main menu?

#5You'd be surprised at the things that confuse me. :P Or maybe not.
On that brown section up there? No, no bookmarks there either. Forum Home, Main Citadel, Full Chat, Search, Admin, Profile, Member Map, My Messages, Members and Logout. -

#6Looks like another permission issue. Will try and figure it out this weekend. Sorry about the confusion!!!
