Chapter 3: Choices

Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#41“I usually prefer the more precise method when it comes to resolving conflict but the ability to speak to a large group instead of one on one is appealing when the numbers are unknown.” Tusserk holsters both pistols before taking the shotgun and shells.
Checking the weapon over, he nods before chambering five of the shells. Sliding the taser style shells into his hip pocket and the box of shells into the thigh pocket of his cargo pants. He keeps a wary watch over the doors.
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#42"Back in Stone Hammer we had a saying, the person with the shotgun takes point," Asha gave a wink and nod to Mr. Creed, stepping back and starting to turn her attention to the next locked door before pausing, glancing over at the already ransacked armory. "It occurs to me the armory may have had a hidden floor safe or panel to store extra gear in the event of an emergency or mutiny, no harm in checking it out."
She turned and walked into the armory, glancing around and checking for any concealed compartments or hidden areas, before exiting to open the next locked door. (Unless she finds some anyway.)

Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#43"Dis ain't enuff... Ah'll be needing ta fajnd more. Iffin only we's 'ad un a dem chips. Ah dun suppose de...bodies...are still dere? Or Dot12? E'ery wee bit 'elps, anythang dat looks electrical or, or..." She quieted, chewing the air. She sighed. The more she thought about it, the more it all seemed like such a tall order. Hopefully if they searched through all of this floor, there would be enough to actually get something done.
Carnegie scratched her head and adjusted her shoulder strap. She walked around and studied the doors, if any of them used a key-card they could check more rooms while Asha was checking hers.
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#44Asha poked and prodded about the Armory, but after several minutes was convinced there were no hidden compartments, or at least none that didn't require a cutting torch to find.
Carnegie, noticing the new new door had another camera, drew her glock and fired a single shot that smashed it.
No bodies. No wrecked robots in the areas shown on the map. I'll put a labeled map up tonight so you can indicate which door you open first.
In the meantime:
There is a door to the far left - that short bit off the entrance room. Big door, keycard lock. Another camera close to it but no visible guns.
The double-door at the north of the entrance - "The doors had metal grips and a slot-like opening that had small glowing red lights. To its right was a computer terminal with small green-lit print."
Two locked doors between the Entrance room and the cafeteria.
Two doors at the north end of the Cafeteria. Not locked.
two doors on either side of the Elevator door. Neither locked.
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#45Asha turned to focus her attention on the large door with the keycard lock and camera, grateful her tolls and skills covered the operation of electronic locks as well as more primitive ones. "Get ready, whatever's behind here is likely well defended."
(If Mr. Creed or anyone else has a different idea of what door we should open next, feel free to speak up and I'll hold off on opening this one.)
To open the lock: (19:10:59) Minion: Silveressa rolls 1d20 and gets 17. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#46Sliding the rack forward to chamber the first shell, Tusserk palmed three more of the shells in his right hand to facilitate reloading. He taking a deep breathe in and placed himself on the far right side of the door. "Do not get ahead of my shoulders or else you could end up blown in half." Turning to look at the group to see if they heard, he then turned to Asha and nodded. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#47"I gathered that much from Asha's recollection of Stone Hammer etiquette." The doc added dryly, giving an approving nod to the group and standing behind and to the left of Mr. Creed, out of any direct line of fire once the door opened. He leaned his ebony cane against the wall casually, the silver wolfs head glinting in the artificial lighting, the sound of leather on iron as he readied his Lemat revolver all but a whisper. "I have some familiarity with cones of fire myself," He told the group, gesturing to the cavernous .68 caliber shotgun barrel that lurked underneath the much more diminutive .44 caliber one of his antique firearm. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#48Ayna positioned herself to the opposite side of Mr. Creed, her Uzi set on single shot as she prepared to enter the door behind him and assist with the room clearing, "This place had a busted gun turret in ceiling of the entryway," She reminded the group, "This room may have more that are less broken so be on guard." -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#49For his part Elvis stood next to Carnegie panting in eagerness, the nervous energy of the group reminding him of the excitement shared by those who accompanied his master on hunts, awaiting her command to charge forth and flush prey from wherever it may be hiding. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#50Asha had worried the door to the best of her ability, but apart from a keycard slot and a little red blinking light, there was little for her tools to work with. None of the doors mechanism was accessible - whatever fasteners it might have were likely on the reverse side of the door. It was almost certain that if anything other than a card was inserted, alarms would be triggered.
"Jus' a min der Asha," said Carnegie, "Ah gots a keycard - maht work." She held out the card that once belonged to Albert Tompson.
Thieve's tools do not include electronic hacking - there are electronic kits, demolition kits and hacking kits separate from thieve's tools. The thieves tools are good for physical lock and traps. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#51Asha took the card with a nod of thanks, giving her an affectionate smile before hesitantly inserting it into the door, worried if it proved the wrong one an alarm and security response would soon greet them. "Here goes..." -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#52The door happily accepted the card, it slid in and out again with a whirring sound. The light flashed green and there was some additional mechanical clicking.
As the massive steel door slid out of line of sight, a number of smells - all powerful, struck there senses. Warm air, with strong mix of Death and burned electronics flooded the room.
Again, it was quiet.
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#53As the door slid open Asha quickly stepped back and to the side, clearing the line of fire to Mr. Creed and Ayna's breach and clear maneuver as she unsheathed her sword ready to deal with any hostiles that attempted to slip past their assault.
(GM, is it permissible for me to use the flat side of my blade to inflict non lethal/subdual damage against targets if I so choose?) -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#54Carnegie stood back, behind Asha and readied her stun stick. She took Elvis by the collar and held him at her side. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#55Elvis pulled slightly against the tug on his collar, the smell of death and more electronics making him recoil and growl in concern as he lowered himself towards the ground ready to spring on anything that threatened his master.
(Initiative roll if anything does exist the door to attack: Minion: Lady_Wolf rolls 1d20 and gets 2.
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#56Doctor West took a half a step back, wrinkling his nose at the all too familiar sickly sweet smell of decay, raising his revolver defensively, the hammer set to fall on one of the 9 .44 magnum shells in it's over sized cylinder, ready to follow Asha through the door, or lay down covering fire while the rest of the group beat a hasty retreat in the event the threat beyond the door proved overwhelming.
(Initiative if needed: Minion: Lady_Wolf rolls 1d20 and gets 3.) -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#57Without hesitation Ayna stepped into the room, advancing in a diagonal direction behind Mr. Creed to sweep her section of the room the same way he had instructed her and other townsfolk a long while back with a mind to guard their bastion of civilization against unknown dangers.
(Perception roll please GM to spot any gun turrets or other dangers in need of some .9mm affection.)
In the event something is there that needs shooting assume a single shot from my Uzi: Minion: Lady_Wolf rolls 1d20 and gets 19.

Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#58Mr. Creed stepped into the darkened room - what few light panels were there were dark and flickering. He foot told him there was something on the floor very close to the door.
A quick prod with his toe told him. Head. Someone was lying right near the door.
Flashlight revealed a horrifying scene - what could only be called the aftermath of a terrible battle. Several corpses lay atop each other - slain while fighting tooth and nail. The one near the doorway was pinioned by a long metal shaft, his apparent attacker lying nearby with a shattered skull.
No firearms were visible - what weapons that could be seen where makeshift - knives, various clubs and heavy tools.
Both men and women made up the assortment of dead - numbering at least a dozen as could be told with the dim light and their limited entry into the room.
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#59Oblivious to the carnage inside, Carnegie took out her flashlight and quietly handed it to Asha.
Dammit, wasted a perfectly good 20 on initiative. Where were you before huh?! :x -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#60"All clear." She said quietly, gingerly stepping over the corpses and keeping an eye out for turrets and looking for a near by light switch in the hopes of better illuminating the area. "Whatever happened here, I'm glad we missed it." -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#61The doc stepped inside more hesitantly, pulling out a handkerchief and holding it to his face to help block out a degree of the smell, poking at the bodies with his sword cane to see if they had of the metal implants the group had told him of. "By the looks of it they died fighting each other, perhaps they became trapped inside?" He glanced around to see if the room held another exit and what (if any) its function seemed to be.
(Search/scavenge roll if needed: (18:00:47) Minion: Lady_Wolf rolls 1d20 and gets 15. ) -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#62The one with the massive head trauma provided what he was looking for. Whatever had been used had been quite heavy, and edged. Likely the bloodied fire-ax he saw cast into the corner, not far from another who bore multiple stab wounds in his back.
He could see something metallic in the unfortunate's cranium, lodged in the brain tissue. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#63Creed slid his feet across the floor, stepping over the bodies as needed, while he swept the shotgun from his area to the far left corner. Satisfied that no bodies were jumping up to attack him and his comrades he turned his attention to looking for hiding spots and potential entries into the room.
(23:41:15) Minion: Tusserk rolls 1d20 and gets 13. Perception skill of +2 for a 15 total... unless Val is rolling for Perception checks
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#64Asha seemingly too focused to notice, and with nothing happening, Carnegie shrugged, keeping the flashlight and stepped up to shine a cone into the room. She flinched away with a half-suffocated sound as she saw the bodies. Her hand covering her mouth, she looked away with a pained expression. After a long while, she managed to muster enough gusto to whisper. "...Doc, could ya..." She paused to swallow.
"C-could ya check em for chips."
"Need ta git de jammer sorted... So dis ain't happenin agin..." She mumbled to herself with determination. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#65"Of course miss Roberts," he said after a moments hesitation, leaning his cane against the wall and holstering his revolver as he with drew a scalpel from his medical bag, "Could you hold the light steady for me please?" He asked her, quickly setting to work extracting the few components from the cadaver, the smell up close making his eyes water from the intensity. "it is best not to linger in here, this room is far from hygienic." he reminded his friends gesturing to the door.
(Still waiting for the GM descritpion of whether or not the room held another exit and what (if any) its function seemed to be btw. ;) ) -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#66Ayna continued to scan the room for a light switch, nodding absent mindedly at the doctors advice, her mind piecing together the way the fight had unfolded, wondering if the lack of ventilation sounds meant some vital piece of the bunker had ceased to function or if it was simply shut down for maintenance. "Anyone recognize any of these people or their style of dress and stuff as being from Kennebac or surrounding places?" She asked her friends, wondering who they were, and if they had been missed by their friends and family yet?
"I'm pretty sure wherever they came from, someone is going to come looking for them eventually." -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#67Elvis watched the activity inside the room form the safety of the doorway, unwilling to enter the room, a soft whine escaping his throat as the smell of death all but overwhelmed him. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#68"I'll keep watch in case anything approaches," She told her companions, giving Carnegie a polite shake of her head when offered the flashlight and quickly retreating several pace from the almost tangible miasma erupting from the door, her stomach churning in slow waves. "I'm glad I had a light lunch." She said to her self quietly, her ears strained against the silence for the sound of anything approaching.
(Perception roll request from gm please to hear any approaching bad guys.) -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#69The only noise to be heard was that of her and her companions. The place seems quite dead.
Through scattered flashlight - no light switch could be found - there appeared to have been two sides to the battle. One group wore exclusively overalls with 117 emblazoned on them, while the other wore more random clothing. None resembled any Kenabacers any of the group knew, and the hands and shoes had no signs of the hard life that existed outside the vault.
None were very young, many had salt and pepper hair and were all very pale.
Doc West managed to fish out a squiggling metal object from his first 'subject', taking great care to deny it any chance to grab him. He dropped it into a can he found nearby and the thing ceased its scrabbling inside.
"Right, they move." said Asha absently.
They could not discern the rooms purpose, but two exits, north and south, could be found. Both were closed doors, no visible locks.
Anya, examining carefully the scene of the battle, said "One group was trying to keep the other from leaving. The overall team was trying to get out."
Why?
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#70Poking around the room, Anya found a blackened panel on the wall that had large slice in it - a fireaxe with a melted blade lay on the floor nearby, and the corpse beside it had a decided 'cooked' look to it.
Even now, a scent of ozone lingered.
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#71Carnegie took the can from the doc and looked at it. She wondered how she would be able to fashion anything with that squirmy thing. "Ah'll... need ta fajnd a workshop of sorts, or sumthang..." She remarked to noone in particular, before backtracking back to the cafeteria. The mechanism she was about to construct would require some very specific parts, maybe if she could find a microwave, she could harvest some of its parts. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#72Elvis followed happily behind her, grateful to be away from the stench of death, the reminder of food from this area making him drool slightly and eye his master longingly for more of the treats he enjoyed before. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#73"Someone wanted to take out the power to this room for some reason, maybe the control of these men rely on short wave signals from wiring inside the wall?" She suggested, picking up the axe and looking it over to determine if it was worth salvaging or not before following the group to the cafeteria. "I wonder why the ventilation is shut off? It coudl be a sign of a more serious malfunction deeper in the complex." -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#74Holstering his revolver the doc trailedbehind the group, eyeing the complex with mild amazement. "It must have taken a great deal of time and effort to build a place of this size and sophistication, I wonder if we might find a map or documentation mentioning the where about of other facilities like this one, perhaps without the machine over-mind." -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#75The cafeteria did have a functioning microwave oven. Carnegie felt a little self conscious as she dismantled it to get the magnatron. Functioning equipment like that was very rare - unheard of in Kenebac. It wasn't small, and would take a lot of juice to run it. Some large capacitors with normal batteries, or a fusion cell would provide the oomph.
The Cafeteria had two doors to the north, decent light, and lots of tables.
One of the doors opened, and a familiar figure staggered out.
"Welcome back," said a metallic voice, a bit hesitantly. A bit off.
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#76Carnegie stuffed the magnatron in her backpack, and looked up. She squinted. "Dot12 s'at you?" She said. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#77Asha spun, leveling her Glock and resisting the urge to empty the machine into the machine just to be safe, but bullets weren't exactly plentiful and chances were they;d need everyone they had before long. "This is that machine we ran into before," She told the Doc and Creed, keepign her handgun trained on its head section just in case as she eyed it's hands for any weaponry.
"A smart enemy would wire that thing to overload and blow when it got close to us, a smart human enemy anyway, a machine mind might just use it to spy on us and eves drop." -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#78Ashas' caution seemed well placed, for the droids hands ended with wicked looking blades. It advanced on them.
"Do you care for any refreshments, good sirrrrs and ladiees Primary Connection Failed. Attempting to reconnect."
While its voice was unsteady, it approached rapidly..
-
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#79"Look out!" Ayna shouted, raising her Uzi and quickly firing off a single shot, hoping to hit the creature in its more vulnerable head section as she stepped backwards towards the hallway they entered from, putting some distance between her and the deadly looking hand attachments. -
Re: Chapter 3: Choices
#80Doc looked up in alarm, half drawing his pistol before pausing and eyeing the robot cautiously, wincing at the echoing sound of gunfire in the enclosed area as he also stepped back to keep a healthy distance between himself and the dangerous robot. "It does not seem very nimble, perhaps if we could knock it over we could disable it and provide Carnegie access to undamaged components to use in making her device?"
