So right now if you look at the generator page, you'll see a message stating that there aren't any official generators yet. A glance at the "List All Generators" page will give you just that, all the generators members have made. Currently, there's no process for generators to become "official." They're also put in a part of the site separate from the main submissions.

How ought this whole thing work? What do you think?

    (It's a landslide so far!!)

What does "Official" mean in this context, anyway? Which subs on the site are "official?" What's the difference?

Certainly there should be a way to rate generators, to guide people to the ones most widely considered useful, especially if the intent is to draw traffic from off-site. I'm just not sure what makes something "Official" in the context of Strolen.

I think that may be part of the confusion. There's an available listing of "official" generators with no criteria for filling that. I think all submissions are "official," in that they're posted and viewable.

That's part of the confusion. I'm not sure how to vote because I don't know what we want that word to represent?

Is anything anyone submits "official?" Then I vote to use a voting system like we use for other subs. Everything is Official; some things are just good and some aren't.

Or do we want "official" to represent the site, to draw traffic, to display what the generators CAN do? Then you need to be more selective, and need a process for selection. This could be voting by all, or maybe Goldens, or maybe the sites owners/admins/mods deciding, but some process has to separate wheat from chaff.

I see merit in either choice, really, but I think we need to decide that first, then decide how to go about getting it done.

Providing some insight and clarification on this, when I added the "Official Citadel Generators" page, I was entirely thinking about a "these are the generators we think are pretty damn good" listing. Our recommendations for people who come by and want some randomly generated content.

Obviously we list all the generators on a separate page, and will probably include searching at a later date when the straight list becomes unwieldy, but there should be some way for us to highlight the ones we think are exceptional. There are any number of ways to do that, but including them as a page directly in the code made it extremely easy and straightforward.
