Campaign Management Feature -- Hide from Players
#1A while back we were discussing a slew of potential campaign management features. One that came to mind is marking a submission as specifically relating to a campaign in progress and hiding the submission from players in that campaign.
Of course, the players would be associated with the campaign, so it'd be an opt-in sort of affair. We don't want arbitrary visibility controls, because then the Citadel becomes a hugbox and loses the criticism that generally produces quality work, but an opt-in temporary hide would be handy.
There are other ways that such a campaign tag could be utilized, this was just the particular use-case that came up. -
Re: Campaign Management Feature -- Hide from Players
#2Aye consider me on board with this idea as well, and Lady Wolf a new comer to the citadel had the following idea:
You could make it a key word other players have to sign up for to block? For Example: "Carly's RT Campaign"
Then people would have a area on their account titled "Block subs with the following Key words" they could add key words to that would block the sub, and thereby keep from spoiling the campaign by reading the subs.
I can see the use when you have players that also frequent Strolen's, perhaps something to add after the site overhaul? -
Re: Campaign Management Feature -- Hide from Players
#3I have been thinking about some kind of special mod privilege for GMs, so they could create their own threads and lock them for everyone but theirselves. With the option to allow certain people to see it. The sub thing though sounds abit shaky, seeing as all they have to do is log out to see it? -
Re: Campaign Management Feature -- Hide from Players
#4The point isn't to let a person completely prevent whoever they want from seeing a submission. It's intended to be an opt-in process, for players that don't want to ruin the game that they're in. -
Re: Campaign Management Feature -- Hide from Players
#5Aye, it's more so if I for example post up shadowrun related subs that would spoil my campaign for my players, they have a way of avoiding those subs rather than trying to remember which subs of mine are off limits to them from among the dozens.
If players really want to ruin the game they can, but since it's just cheating themselves out of fun I know my players wouldn't, and this would keep them from unintentionally ruining things for themselves. -
Re: Campaign Management Feature -- Hide from Players
#6I definitely want to be more game friendly, that is for sure.
Might have to ditch the forum for RP's and build our own! :) Pipe dream at this point but that has always been on my mind.
Taking notes, this is an interesting solution. Simple and effective and opt-in is always good. Excellent suggestions.
Before I start building, since I am starting at square one, we have enough knowledge that we can almost write the documentation before I build it. As I go, I hope to put up all the ideas and direction I am going and assisting the RPing is high on the list as well. So if there is more that would make gaming better, happy to hear it. -
Re: Campaign Management Feature -- Hide from Players
#7A section for members (mainly GMs of forum games) to upload files for their games would be handy. Being able to upload .MP3's or floorplans/character images for their forum games on site would be far more handy than having to faff about with third party websites. Around 50mb or so per member would be plenty for images and music without taking up too much space. (or simply require permission for storage space?) -
Re: Campaign Management Feature -- Hide from Players
#8A dedicated space for maps so we can share - or tagged content to create these spaces automatically might work as well.
