New character in an existing universe.

New character in an existing universe.
#1I don't mean fan-fiction. But what I've been thinking about is writing up an NPC that would already inhabit an existing realm/universe/etc.
I can't recall having seen anything like it here, and I know using system technical stuffs goes against adaptability, but using a setting?
Just looking for clarification really, before I commit myself to something. -

#2I am assuming you mean like in a Universe detailed in other works of fiction such as Lord of the Rings or Stargate.
I wrote a Tank that inhabited a pre-packaged universe (there were NPCs in its back story).
Scras has also written at least two things written in pre-existing universes. -

#3Aye, that's what I had in mind. I just didn't know the correct term for it.
There are a couple of worlds and settings that I have been wanting to do NPC's for. Mainly WFRP and LOTR.
