Hmm, a couple of summoner apprentices to carry her big tent and any excess loot works, don't really need anyone/anything to carry her.

Oh and I need more spells, I think I have room for a few more. One to ward my mind would be favorite, maybe it simply takes up a few memorization points when active as well as costs mana per 5 hours while conscious or so, or perhaps at a lesser cost but when active I can't have any spirits attached. A spiritcaller ought to logically have a means to avoid being possessed when it is not intentional, especially one as experienced as Aeomi.

Is there some kind of cost associated with burning a mandrake that I know of? Supposedly when you pull them up you die from hearing their scream for one thing.

I can make a check if required; (13:24:02) Minion: Gossamer rolls 1d100 and gets 66. Magic I guess? which is 75.

There are many superstitious beliefs surrounding the mythical mandrake root, yet death does not visit you this day, despite the plant's dying screams. Had you been more well versed in the lore of herbology, you might have known what qualities the rare plant holds.

Ooookay, starting to regret not stopping by yesterday evening.... If we are still in the forest, Aeomi warned the party about the demon without going into details.

Fair enough. You are at the outer edge of that forest now, looking down on Treskenmauer, and apparently nothing happened.
At least none of you are dead. :)

    Heheheheh.

Hurrah for living! I will try and get a post out in the next couple hours, but i am at work and school holidays start now so i may not get a chance until i finish here today.

So this place appears to be an armpit (20 houses), not a city, or we only seeing a small portion?

AG, not to be a stickler or anything, but I would prefer it if you changed the descriptive text to saying I was walking, I don't want a carriage, it doesn't fit with her ascetic monk style. For an entourage I would settle with some apprentices to carry stuff.

    Hello folks

    Answers:
    - Yes, it is a village (or an armpit as you called it, hehe). Treskenmauer is a small, isolated community.
    - Gossamer: You are the boss when it concerns your character. I will change the text accordingly.

Thank you, AG.  :) You can keep everything else, she could just pull that orb up from her backpack.

Whoops, didn't know we were in Silmar...Must have missed that memo. Too late for a mulligan? :P Heh, hmm....okaaaaay, what to do now.
  14. Re: [OOC Coldforged] 1423: The Crusade Against the Circle of Ketange-Ishatal

This moved too fast for me.  Basically, in no way will Kuth allow this - any of the murders - to transpire unopposed - with force if needed, nor will he consort with those capable of this now they are unmasked.

Looking at where the story has gone in the interim, it perhaps is best to write Kuth out of this one.

  15. Re: [OOC Coldforged] 1423: The Crusade Against the Circle of Ketange-Ishatal

    #55
Gotta agree with Val here. The game went from 'go to this town and figure out what happened to Dieter' to 'pointlessly kill the entire village even though they probably know information about Dieter' in the course of one night. I know Elquin wasn't around to put his opinion on it, but he's very against useless murder for no reason, and I don't see how I can stay in character with him and still be a part of a group that kills peasants who posed little threat for fun.
  16. Re: [OOC Coldforged] 1423: The Crusade Against the Circle of Ketange-Ishatal

    #56
The "little threat" that they pose is "go and tell the authorities" which will coalesce into "find a village full of Hexenjaegers when we return from the quest, exhausted".
Think me a fool, but unless you have mind control magics, which you don't, this will happen.

Specifically regarding Vitoriel, everybody knew how an elf invoker (you know, that pointy-eared species that gets raped and murdered on sight in these parts) would react to a lynch mob, especially given that the story plot is "Someone of our monastery and power level was crucified in Silmar."

Each time your cover is blown (thanks, Aeomi), the only recourse is "leave no witnesses". Especially as none of those witnesses were painted as opposed to the idea of burning helpless witches.

Also, pointlessly kill - they are not dead yet, which you either may learn from reading the OOC, or in character from Vitoriel, and they may divulge all necessary info, which you either may learn from reading the OOC, or in character from Vitoriel.

    Refute my points please.

    ***

On a separate note: when exactly do you wish to intervene?
*Nobody got to intervene in Aeomi blowing up the cover.
*Nobody got to intervene in Kuth stomping the ground.
*Vitoriel casts a single area spell, an action which is comparable with Kuth's in length.
Notice how AG immediately responded to the above actions, describing their consequences. Vitoriel's action followed the exactly same template as yours - so there is no reason to attack it on formal grounds because you do not like the content.

Then, a crone runs up, and addresses Vitoriel. To which Vitoriel responds. That's the first window I see.
  17. Re: [OOC Coldforged] 1423: The Crusade Against the Circle of Ketange-Ishatal

    #57
    Fellow roleplayers, please.

    1. Everyone is playing their characters here, and I am GMing the world, reacting to your actions.

    2. So far, all gaming is IC, and excellently so. That includes Kuth's reaction, Aeomi's reaction, Elquin's reaction and Vitoriel's reaction. You guys have different charries with very, very different world views. This debate might as well be going on IC, in incensed and furious terms.

    3. Mass murder is mass murder. It is mass murder if the citizens of villagers go on a killing spree, burning suspected and real witches and warlocks at the stake, and it is mass murder if Vitoriel uses her considerable powers to snuff out a village. We have yet to arrive at mass murder though, as only the witch has been killed thus far. The rest are at Vitoriel's mercy.

    4. The Ketange-Ishatal used to be a famous place of magic and learning. Now it is (considered) an infamous place of demonic witchcraft and sodomy (in Silmar). A Mistress of the Summoning Tower would probably translate to "The Devil's Harlot, serving in a decadent monument" to Silmarite ears.

    5. You guys have been locked away in the monestary for centuries. It is unlikely that you have ventured into Silmar much, and it is quite possible that you did not realize that this new part of Silmar had fallen under the zealot spell yet. As was evident outside of town, at the shrine that Elquin found, this place had magic users and sacrificial rituals. Quite possibly, this was another place several hundred years ago, when a young Aeomi ventured through the area, on the run from more central parts of Silmar

    6. As is evident in the faces of the apprentices, and in the reactions of Kuth and Aeomi, they find Vitoriel's actions to be somewhat extreme. That is to be expected. If you read EchoMirage's character, she IS an extremist, and a pragmatist. She may need to be reined in at times. This is where the mission, her ties to the monestary and the master of the monestary, and your roles as masters of the monestary come into play to avoid a party split.

    7. As above, remember your ties to each other. You are all serving at a place of longevity, study and worship. You are on a mission for the master. If given the gift of extreme longevity, would you throw it away? Would you betray one you considered your mentor, benefactor and friend for the last 100 years? (The Master of the Monestary - A benefactor to you all) If not, remember the mission, and respect your fellow monks as the game permits.

    8. Right now, I suggest you guys normalize the situation. Vitoriel, you are sure to notice the fear, the fury, the anger in your fellow monks. As a Mistress of the Monestary, you are allowed certain despotic rights, but two of those reacting are fellow masters of the monestary, and that is not to be taken lightly.

    9. If you guys cannot normalize the situation, I can intervene with the Master of the Monestary. She has the power to be in the village within a couple of hours. If you need that, call it here in the OOC, and we will use it as a last resort.

I do not like too much retroactive gaming. You make your choices, and you stick with them. I do not believe playing the "Master Sorceror" card will work well in Silmar though, so now that you for sure know that you are here, remember that.

But, you could also run into isolated and hidden covens of witches or warlocks. They might react similar to Vitoriel if they believed their cover was blown, and you played the "innocent Silmarite" charade.

It is a difficult setting to be playing in, and the Hexenjaegers might prove difficult opponents if you run into them.

I believe in you as players, and I believe you will rise to the occasion.

So if Vitoriel shows some social skills, and notice the way the others react, and shows the other masters of enchantment proper respect (and vice versa), I believe you guys can sort this out.

I have slept upon it, and have somewhat cooled.

Basically, I have a hard time reconciling Kuth's inaction with what happened without having to change his character in a direction I'd rather not go.

I am reacting mainly to the inability to affect the course of events, when the stakes are very high. Please do not advance so quickly in situations of such complex drama, where everyone should get a voice in before all the dust settles.

Kuth's reaction to this sudden slaughter - for from his eyes it was slaughter unless he is well versed in necromancy (which he is not) - will be to immediately physically restrain Vitoriel.  The extortions to kill weaken the case that 'no, they are not dead yet."

  19. Re: [OOC Coldforged] 1423: The Crusade Against the Circle of Ketange-Ishatal

    #59
And if you think I am being morally 'enlightened' with Kuth's approach, he has to be.  He needs to push against his nature and background with all his might, or fall back into being what he was.

I will comply with slower story advancement in scenarios like this.

I get eager at times, and that is not always a good thing.

So... you are memorizing individual forms, not subchanges? Cool.
I'd just note that for their memorization level, Goss' spells are noticeably more expensive than yours (i.e. 24 mana for a 4th level spell)

A few apprentices, no carriage, but they carry a big exotic tent and yeah, ghosts. I've been meaning to detail the ghosts more, I've got three primary ghosts. One is the manifestation of Rage (Ancient hero), one is a thief (gremling spell in human form), and one Dryad, nature spirit.

Costs are low since they need to be cast together to produce final forms, and most forms have no supernatural attack forms.

The combat rolls for the Ekauri and Vitoriel, Eurydice and Ronal.

This will be posted in the game thread after all of you posted the results of your round too.

valadaar and Gossamer: Roll for your PC, but also for your combat ready NPC henchmen.
You may never fail a morale roll, but your henchmen may very well do that.

    Combat rolls

    The Ekauri:
(19:50:02) Minion: Ancient_Gamer logs into the Chat.
    (19:50:11) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d10 and gets 4.

Alright the Ekauri is slow (+3 initiative) and so he attacks on 4 (roll) + 3 (initiative slow) + 1 (Greatsword) = 8 iniative. The lowest initative roll wins.

    (19:50:34) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d100 and gets 43.

The Ekauri attacks Ronal, who will be charging the Ekauri right back. This roll is a hit.

    (19:50:39) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d20 and gets 15.
The Ekauri hit Ronal in the right arm

    (19:50:52) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 2d8 and gets 8,5.
    (19:51:04) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d6 and gets 6.

For 19 damage. Unless Ronal makes his dodge roll, the Ekauri will cut off his right arm and only a stump will be left.

    Ronal, Eurydice and Vitoriel's initiative:
    (19:56:23) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d10 and gets 1.

Vitoriel and her entourage acts at the very beginning of the combat round 1 (ini), +2 (Longsword

    (19:56:30) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d100 and gets 30.
    Ronal scores a good hit

    (19:56:38) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d20 and gets 12.
His longsword slash hits the breastplate of the black knight

    (19:56:46) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d10 and gets 2.
    (19:56:50) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d4 and gets 4.

And the hit just scrapes the surface and forces the knight to take a single step back.

(20:01:47) Ancient_Gamer: Ronal dodge to avoid loss of arm. Melee skill = 50
    (20:01:53) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d100 and gets 91.
Ronal loses his right arm, and also his sword.

    (19:59:02) Ancient_Gamer: Morale check (Eurydice)
    (19:59:29) Ancient_Gamer: Willpower 15 - 4 (dread effect) -4 (Ronal lost his arm) roll 7 or below on 1d20
    (19:59:33) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d20 and gets 6.
Eurydice stands her ground and attacks with a telekinetic blast

(20:05:00) Ancient_Gamer: Ekauri Magic Resistance (65%) vs Eurydice Telekinetic Blast
    (20:05:05) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d100 and gets 60.
Eurydice attacks with a powerful telekinetic blast, but the magic effect sizzles and dies as it hits the Dark Essence Elemental.

(20:24:41) Ancient_Gamer: Vitoriel spell cast (Flame)
    (20:24:45) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d100 and gets 40.
Flames begin to form around the black knight

    (20:25:00) Ancient_Gamer: Ekauri spell resistance
    (20:25:05) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d100 and gets 39.
...But when they touch him they wither and die
  28. Re: To Delete: [OOC Coldforged] 1423: The Crusade Against the Circle of Ketange-Ishatal

(15:05:05) Minion: valadaar rolls 1d10 and gets 1.

(15:08:32) Minion: valadaar rolls 1d100 and gets 71.

Kuth hurls a brick sized stone, and misses.

Enthri and Caldu both quickly send arrows at the armored figure, but they glance off harmlessly (Both hit, but do not do enough damage).

I don't know if/when Elquin arrives, but when he does, i rolled a 3 initiative on the ol' dice app. When he's there, he will keep hidden if he hasn't been noticed, and would like to roll against senses to study the foe for weak points or anything not immediately apparent.
    roll against senses: 20.

    Initiative, Combat round 2

    vitoriel's entourage:
    (22:04:09) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d10 and gets 9.

    Eurydice morale roll (Ronal's death)
(22:05:27) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d20 and gets 14. - Eurydice's morale breaks and she screams broken heartedly and flees the battle

I dunno if you guys have seen it yet, but we are waiting for val's entourages' initiative roll

The Dark Essence Elemental / Ekauri / Black Knight rolled 3,
it is extremely slow (+4) and uses a greatsword (+1).

    Aeomi's entourage rolled 8,
Aeomi has -3 initative due to her reflexes, is +1 per memorization level of her spell, or +1 with the staff (either spell or effect)
Rune has -2 initiative, and +1 per memorization level of her spell cast.
The Ugeroth has +2 initative and +2 per scimitar

Combat Order, First Strike to Last:
Aeomi (if she cast level 1 spell or use staff): 6
Aeomi (if she cast level 2 spell): 7

woops, 9 was my unmodifed roll - have a -2 for dex, so 7.

(09:17:36) Minion: valadaar rolls 1d100 and gets 37, well below his close combat of 80 + whatever bonuses being a 1-2 ton rino give you.

No Idea of damage either, will post after Aeomi.

I rule that this huge rhino of yours does 2d6+2 Gore Damage, +5d6 if it is charging its opponent.

Initiative: (10:10:28) Minion: Shadoweagle rolls 1d10 and gets 3.

    Thief/Stealth against 95 (daytime): (10:11:10) Minion: Shadoweagle rolls 1d100 and gets 94.
Close Combat against 65 (daytime): (10:11:13) Minion: Shadoweagle rolls 1d100 and gets 71.

Wow. Absolute balls :p Why do you lot even have me around?

I'm just going to assume neither roll was successful, since i'm trying to be stealthy in daytime which would likely cause penalties. Post coming shortly.

    Simplifying combat
    Do we want that?

As a longtime proponent of realism, I wholeheartedly love the RuneQuest / Call of Cthulhu base rules.
While we have a simplified ruleset, combat is very much in the spirit of RuneQuest.

But, it has come to my attention that it makes combat long winded. Especially now that you have entourages.

    WHAT IF:
    - The GM rolled initiative for everyone (Streamlines fight sequence process, and lets us avoid waiting for people to just roll their initiative)
    - The GM rolled hit locations (1d20) when you attacked, removing the burden of location from your rolls (unless you targeted a specfic hit location)
    - The GM rolled attack rolls and such of your henchmen. You still can order them around, but the combat mechanics are moved to the GM.
    - The Player rolled: A) To hit roll and B) damage roll for his/hers/its PC only

Would that be smooth and desireable?

Say Yea if you are in favor of these simplified simplified rules
Say Nay if you wish to retain the current level of control

But in all seriousness, yes, that would be desireable for me.  :)

    Ok.

I take val's silence as another Yae.

Unless he objects, I hereby control all henchmen dice rolls, hit locations and initiative.

You guys attack and damage stuff, pluss roll skill rolls.

In about 30 hours from now, your window of posting about what your pc did the 3 days of rest closes.

My question now is; what do you guys do now?

    Are you gonna do something?
