Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#1This will be my slow update thread for my accountability on what I am trying to do with the site.
Current WIP.
Not super thrilled with the header but I like the simplified menu.
Once logged in:
The profile skull will turn a red color when there is an action pending. Whether it be a challenge requiring a vote, a Golden or if you got a message. Will also warn members if they have a challenged submission to review. Some of that is in work still but that is the intent. Some is already working but not listed anywhere yet. Soon.
Once you do the drop down (a click will make it stay down or it will expand on hover and hide when lost focus) there are the some of the immediate details that are available. I will redo the color of the circle tag things.
If you click on "Quick Profile" it will bring up a modal window that will have a larger stack of author information as well as any actions that are pending with quick links. This is open for discussion on what we can display. I will play with the formatting but it is a proof of concept now. Anything handy that I can put in there for you that you would like easy reference? It is ajax so I am not worried about how much we pull.
I got a little fancy with the search box for no reason. Stumbled on very simple css so did it.
Got the typeahead working again with the new bootstrap and also added an author search. Old search you can type in the full username and go straight to their profile, this one allows you to start typing it and it will bring it up with the other selections for titles to pick from.
There is that row where the search button is that we can use for some kind of information. Not sure what yet. Maybe small announcements or something?
Quick menu lost a lot of its meat with the other buttons so not sure what to put in there. Not sure I like "Library" either but it is rp sounding so left it.
Found a nice little snippet site with some stuff so have a lot of bookmarks and notes.
Realized I don't have a 404 page again. NEED ART AND SOMETHING GOOFY TO PUT THERE!!
Found the "stock" image search on deviant art and found some nice artwork. Again, will talk to the author before using it but there is lots of good stuff free for use with an acknowledgement.
Also like the concept of this page: http://rolz.org/about
It is a nice simple thank you for those of you who donated. (And I still have list back to 1911...that was before Scras was arrested and had his mug shot taken)
Another idea was a "I used this" button. Some may not want to comment and such but throwing a button like that on it would be an easy way to identify a sub in that way. I know you are all curious about that, maybe we can get it logged easier?
Lots of small random usability type stuff. Will continue to do these updates as I make modifications. (Might go a long way towards actual documentation too which is on my list :) )

Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#2Unlike most other people, I got shit all done. Not completely true as I got a few side things completed and a ton of stuff in RL. Mostly my job kicked my ass. Lots of late night calls and BS responses that I wasted time doing.
What I really need is a good webdesigner that can do our style fantasy and can do something with the header. I love our current one but I hate the links. I like the new links but hate the header. But they are incompatible.
I am going to move forward with the shitty header for now in hopes inspiration hits me or I stumble upon a design I like somewhere.

Perhaps we could host tickler files as part of the subscriber gm resources... -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#4That really wouldn't be hard to do... -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#5Spent some time cleaning house since I am about to get jiggy.
I updated some of the emails that the forum sends to make them easier to read. Been a few days, not sure if you noticed.
I tore apart the current test site (sorry :) ) and am loading everything from scratch. Fresh install and clean code moves. Changing some paths and cleaning house a bit and it feels good. There were so many test things going on that I started to get a headache from it! So anything that goes in now should be somewhat nice and pretty and actually used vs. all the crap files flying all over the place. But that is how I work sometimes, sorry. My lack of working in a structured environment makes me a code slob.
So once I get the main page back up I can start methodically moving forward with the huge checklist of enhancements and updates I have! -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#6Did the site transfer over. Got the entire thing reloaded fresh. Put the apps outside the root so they are hidden from the world.
Got most of the frontpage reworking. Playing with ajax a lot to update crap with the ideas, voting, popup modals with info and such and will continue to abuse it as we move forward.
Especially happy with the more organized project area I have going. Much easier to keep track of stuff when all that is there is stuff that I am actually working on. :)

Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#7Landing page is more or less working. Will continue to tweak it as I move on and I get ideas.
Got the idea view/edit/add modal window working with the new backend.
Started with the new stuff page. Will get it working and will decide if we keep it for that, maybe use it for regions or author subs, codices...who knows. But it will be a fun, different way to view subs. And each different way is a new way to showcase and get comments. -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#8OK, got sucked into *new* instead of getting shit done. It tends to happen with me.
I have my "Cult of Done" mini poster on the wall right above the screen I code on and I am going to refocus into simply converting the old site to the new site with all the fixings and cleaning going on in the background.
So that means:
No more new pages just for the sake of new pages.
Only MAJOR revamp will be the author page because I have absorbed some badass templates and have a good idea on what I want to do on it....and it needs it bad!
There will be plenty of feature improvements and additions, but they will all be in the context of the current pages and making current features easier to use and such.
So I am refocused and back in the game!!
Sucky thing is all the time I thought I was going to have over the holiday is not happening. Christmas ate up more time that I thought (that is a good time because we had a blast) and I have family coming this weekend. So I think I am going to get up early every morning to get in a couple hours. I want to get a big dent in this by 6 Jan (when I go back to work).
If I can do that, then we will be well on the way to a groundhog day reopening of Citadel 5.0!!
Are the other pieces going to be ready by then??
ebook
random generator
app
Not to add too much pressure but I am super excited to start this new era of the Citadel. There is no turning back! :) -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#9Any comments on this would be appreciated. First draft.
http://readpostplay.com/browsing/plots/Discovery/none
The right column links should work and sort and all that but no pagination yet.
Specific comments on the thought of the top section mirroring the front page. I could get rid of the dragons but I am looking to greatly simplify the viewing.
Also, take a look at it as you shrink the screen horizontal for tablets or phones and see how that adjusts. Thoughts? -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#10I think the subs are pushed too far down the page by the stuff on top. Cut that within an inch of its life.
The ideas, make the idea text the focus and shrink the Author name, etc, smaller.
Subs and ideas are king, the rest is window dressing. -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#11Initially they are pushed down. Here is my thought: As the main menu only has links for each major category now, this is the category landing page they will all have to go through now. After you go to the next page of browsing or select a subcategory, that top section won't show up, just on the initial page.
So the top part is more of an advertising section for Plots or NPCs or Quests whatever that we can sneak in some extra links of whatever sort we want to push.
I do see your point though for sure....Balancing on the past conversations on getting more subs into the rotation beyond the newest ones that will always be shown. Will contemplate it as I continue.
Fixed the footer.
*Updated
It is about where it is at this point. All that is left is readding the graphic icons in the bottom left.
Except for what to put in the top (more or less) and decide about it. Moving on to the next page! -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#12Reading the site on my z1 mobile was. pleasant.
The layout was great, and the little up arrow neat.

Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#13Finished that page for now. Want to do more with that header thing that val didn't particularly like but the entire thing is done and don't want to waste time thinking about it at the moment.
Viewing page is next.
Also, I think we should do the 2013 Muro awards sooner than later. I will have a page with each year's winners (through 2000) put up for browsing. Basically it will just be a totally reformed view of the standings as listed. Probably not all of them either.
Admin only, don't share: http://strolen.com/muro_awards/2013
replace the year for browsing -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#14Well lookie there. I made the listings. Rather shocking, in fact; I don't think I've ever made the listings before. Moving up in the world! -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#15I'm on it!
*prepares witty one-liners and laugh track accompaniment* -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#16Can we "techno-up" a script for "Most Upticked Idea Seed", 2012? Juts curious. -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#17K, awards done, unless i missed something which is possible. -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#18Oh thought of one I missed !!! Newbie of the Year 2013...
I'm thinking Gossamer? But we used to have a script for quantifying that I thought?
Didn't see it in the scripts this year -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#19What about an award for:
Best external roleplaying site?
-
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#20Sure, but I don't know of any. Recommend one. -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#21Can't remember newbie of the year, but will refind and figure it out.
I vote "no" for anything external at this point. We can do that later but lets keep it intimate. We have the web award thread we can reignite if we want to do that. But don't want to just pick something just to have an award either. http://strolen.com/guild/index.php/board,15.0.html -
Re: Lockmor 5.0 Chatter
#22I remember Dossta winning the first ever newbie of year award, and we had some stats showing that he had the most activity of new people that year...or something.,
