Have Generator level variables as well as entry-level variables.

Example : "Multiple use same target" generator

I might need some instructions on how to use this

Yahooooo. If I wasn't home from over 12 hours of BS at work, I would jump on it.

I did notice that any new generator is saved even if you don't do anything to it. So if I try and duplicate another database or add one, if I decide I don't want to do it anymore and make no updates/changes, it saves it anyway.

*cough* That was me realizing at the last minute that I forgot to have an "add generator" option, and taking the lazy way out. I really don't want to duplicate all the work that went into the edit generator page just for adding new generators; Django templates are nifty, but not quite nifty enough to save me from that particular hell.

Bugfixes have gone out. Things are actually quite usable at this point, though there's still some fiddly-bits that would be handy to have.

Additionally, you can now mark your generators as inactive so that they no longer display to other users (except in extraordinary circumstances), and you can mark a generator as a widget, which essentially makes it visible only in the template variable selection dropdowns if you don't own it.

And another - my 30 Legendary Cures converted into a generator:

    A few more:

    30 Dwarven Treasures  http://readpostplay.com/g/50
    Walking Dead  http://readpostplay.com/g/12
    Flawed Potions  http://readpostplay.com/g/44
    Hanaset Name Gen  http://readpostplay.com/g/41
    Legendary Cures and Antidotes  http://readpostplay.com/g/52

With links allowed, the creation is pretty easy, just a bunch of cut and paste.

So, one thing I really didn't mention when we were discussing the rolz API (since it wasn't the crux of my argument anyway) is that it doesn't support the extended arguments and syntax that we'd really like to use it for (he says it's in-the-works, but that doesn't give us any kind of forecast deadline). If we want the special stuff, we'll have to roll our own in-house anyway.

Just thought I should clarify that, so it doesn't feel quite so much like I'm being a stick in the mud.

Is there a way to get more than a single result at a time...for a generic user viewing these?

For some, I would like, say, a list of 10 random types or whatever.
  12. Re: Random Generator Chat

    Certainly!

Once we have user parameters, then maybe we can make that selectable.

Or you can go to the original submission and see them all.

    Or,

And, we really need to the Unique Result filter enabled as well :)

My list of 10 towns ended up with 6 dupes.

The only problem I have with the multiple item result sets is that the source sets are fairly small in many cases.

I think separate threads for generators is a good idea so we can discuss/comment on them separately.

Even better would be to be able to use them as submissions and get the comment/voting capabilities, right Strolen? :)
