Ebook Chatter
#1I vented to Val a little in a PM but thought I would share.
It was like a punch to the face that Johnn got me moving forward on spending some serious time on the Citadel and making me understand that we could have so much more. We have been thinking about it forever, I am just too lazy and comfortable with my life to add an unknown to it. But Johnn was an awesome catalyst for change and I am thankful that he jumped in with us and started the push.
At the same time I was incredibly pissed because most things Johnn brought up were obvious and discussed in one form or another before. I even remember discussing subscriptions before. So there was nothing new when it comes down to it. All ideas we have had and never acted on. But I knew we needed Johnn as the motivator.
That is why I was a little pissed. We can do this all ourselves. We don't need Johnn. But WE DID NEED JOHNN and that is why I jumped on it. He was going to DO and execute his ideas with us. Something we have difficulty doing because this *is* a hobby for us and we don't see it as an opportunity.
So I say, FUCK THIS AS A HOBBY. Let's make it a job with income! Let make it A JOB THAT WE LOVE TO DO!
So, from my side, I am taking all Johnn's ideas (with his permission, Johnn is AWESOME) and running with them.
The site WILL be easier to use and focused on bringing in traffic and keeping it...with your assistance on what works and doesn't as always.
We will have major feature creep to try and get stuff to manage campaigns and keep blogs of them and whatever else we can crib that other sites are doing that I know we are capable of.
RANDOM GENERATORS ARE A HUGE PULL. HUUUUUUGE. I haven't hit that in other threads because there isn't much revenue from them and we need the ebooks floating around the net for marketing. One small step at a time adds up fast though.
We will have a Citadel Store. We will get better at publishing and we will get the point where we can pay freelancers and sell YOUR ebooks! That Will Happen and that is where I want us to be.
We are taking the idea and doing it the Citadel Way. All together!
So when Johnn said he had too much going on it was bittersweet. I knew things would probably slow down without his energy. Which is why I cranked up my Dick and Demanding dial a little bit. I might be a little rough around the edges in asking for assistance and pushing us, but it is because I am ready to take this next step!
Full disclosure kindof. I am retiring from the military, probably in the next 5 years or so. If we can get this going and take some of these ideas and get them working over the next couple years. There are few things in life I would rather do than spend a majority of my time making this website a RPG mainstay in the RPG community! The RPG community is huge and growing daily. We only need a tiny bit of that huge pool of people to make a nice side income to augment whatever else we got going on. I am motivated to take this to the next level!
So let's get this up and running! -

Re: Ebook Chatter
#8BTW:
Looking at the Plots(2 - Crawlers of the Dark (7k words, 25 pages) and Post Mortem, Darkly (2.5, 5 pages + several linked subs) , that got into my list, these are generally big and detailed enough to warrant elaboration and production into their own publication. PMD has a lot of linked content, and that would also make sense to deal with specifically. Maps, additional art, etc.
So, Strolen Adventures Series could be added to the list of potential PDfs.
I'll set those two aside and carry on with the other stuff.

#11Moving along at the speed of word! -
Re: Ebook Chatter
#12Should we have a separate thread for additional ebook ideas? Also, the name of the current one is still certainly subject for debate.
-
Re: Ebook Chatter
#13Yes, start a new thread I think. -

Re: Ebook Chatter
#20The "German Underground" is the font in that one.
Strolen's Citadel is written in "DeiGratia"

#21Okay, created a script to add pagenumbers - this is _not_ automated in scribus, but it is now.

Re: Ebook Chatter
#22Its really starting to come together. Now I need graphics.
1. "The appearance of a Corpsemaker is that of an enormous maggot-like beast with two too-large, flabby arms extending out of the first third of its body. The head of the beast flows seamlessly from the body and consists only of two slits of nostrils, and one enormous, flapping mouth covering the entire front of the animal.
Though enlarged, the teeth inside the mouth are disturbingly human - flat, crushing molars and a large, slimy tongue which frequently lolls out to slather drool over its lips."
2. Undead army, like the army of the dead in LOTR. Monchromatic and surreal is okay.
3. Undead with lips sewn shut. Metal covered ears optional.
4. Image for The Cutsman. Lots of description. May be very hard to source this one without custom work.
5. a small parasite resembling an ant sized horseshoe crab that enters the host through any available orifice.
6. A small banner appropropriate for New Takes on undead. Witches, cauldron, undead arms reaching out?
7. Assorted zombies, half zombie, half melted, witch with burnt lower legs, dead made-up prostitute, burnt zombie, pin-cushioned zombie.
