Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#2When the Great War began, the Scientists of Orbital Station Copernicus One were busy studying the Horsehead Nebula, and therefore were unaware of earth's devastation until one week later. Locked inside their ivory tower, they had discovered a cluster of exciting exo-planets in the Nebula and had spent several days inside the state of the art observatory, marveling at the 3D projections of the different planets. Only when they had named them all after themselves and beloved ones, did the scientists eagerly initiate contact with earth to deliver the thrilling news. Unfortunately earth had been destroyed in the meantime, so, dismayed, the scientists had no one to acknowledge their greatest discovery.
A system of apartheid was introduced some 450 years ago, separating the lesser educated from the prime citizens of the space station. 398 years ago Prima Noctis was introduced, allowing any and all scientists one night with a servant bride before any marriage. Following a rapid decline in marriages, any citizen could have any servant at whim from 150 years ago. Battling the danger of inbreeding, the Birth Regulation Law created 50 years ago state that only licensed fetuses are allowed to be born among the servants. In a lucky turn of events, the servant engineers were able to create the sentient sexbots some 18 years ago, reducing the rape of servants from a daily occurence to none. Unfortunately, the scientists began culling the servants (through the clever use of airlocks) shortly thereafter, and only essential personell have been retained.
Recently the food supply has been running critically low and the citizens are now forced to eat the same food as the servants.
This major crisis has forced Doctor Andrew van Holst, "Master of Nanotechnology and Explorer Extraordinaire of Orion", to order the servants to perform the first earth landing since the great war 800 years ago. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#3Gonna need a couple of Player Characters for Copernicus One.
The easily offended, overly religious and touchy touchies are not eligible to play.
PCs will be servant class characters, and the game will start as the PCs are heading away from the Space Station. So, not much chance of being abused and insulted except in the opening scenes.
For the morally conscious and those who react poorly to the setting:
The politics have been more than mirrored throughout history: Apartheid in South Africa, Prima Noctis in the medieval ages, anyone who has spent time at universities know of the better than thou attitude among scientists.
I just concocted it all into a cocktail I found amusing. Also, the Fallout vibe can probably be felt here, mirroring the citzens of Vault City.
So... If any want to play in a space shuttle crew of engineers, soldiers and doctors landing on a post apocalyptic earth, buckle up and we will play.
You are all most welcome, I am just making protective signs to ward off evil. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#4Echo reporting for duty.
Since the advent of the bots, the station is no fun anymore, let's get down to Earth again! -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#5Well, i still have extremely fond memories of Bleakwood, so of course I'm in!!
(as soon as other rp winds down, which should be two weeks or so tops!)
Will begin pondering character anon! -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#6And we are ready to play!
We accept up to 2 characters more, provided they have a good reputation as frequent posters.
I reserve the right to refuse lawyers, soothsayers, dentists and posters who have a habit to drop out for days and weeks at end. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#7I can see multiple pros and cons for checking out the smoking ruins of earth. Pros include playing a thief/pilot Han Solo type guy, being a non-arrogant, non-Melior type, and my gut says yes, while cons include too many RPs, stealing other spots, and my brain says no. So, I'll put it to the dice gods. A 1-50 will mean I'm in, a 51-100 will mean I'm out, in the spirit of this d100 RPG system.
(20:45:28) Minion: caesar193 rolls 1d100 and gets 45.
I'm in. Unless you don't want me, in which case my brain, if not my emotions, thanks you. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#8your emotions are thanking me, while your brain screams in Fury.
You have been given a slot aboard the Pietini Class Shuttle, bound for earth.
Loot and Glory! -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#9In my ongoing quest to try out every GM this Citadel has to offer, I would kick myself for not jumping aboard this train, despite already being in so many RPs. But contemporary/futurey characters are the hardest to come up with, and I've got nothing at this point. When will you be starting?
Also, no sex-bots??? Grr... -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#10The Game starts soon.Within a week.
I guess the prelude will start this week, describing some background stuff.
Muro's character joins us after Isle of Woe is done, which is not far into the future.
The Characters possible starting professions are:
1 of you may be the Space Station Captain.
1 of you may be the Pietini Class Shuttle Pilot
3 of you may be Armed Guards, controlling law and order among the non-citizens inside the Space Station.
2 of you may be Medical Doctors, skilled at the healing of human flesh
4 of you may be Engineers, skilled at mechanical or scientific labor
Since you are four players, you can choose whatever you like from the list above. Once a character type is chosen, the number of available characters of that type is reduced by one.
So, if Echo choses to be an Armed Guard, the number of available armed guard slots is reduced from 3 to 2. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#11Coming soon: USF Mary Sue Bradley, Pietini Class Space Shuttle.

Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#12What you know about Earth
What the Scientists tell you
Earth was once a glorious planet ruled by multiple civilizations. You all came from Utopia, where scientists ruled in their Golden City. One day the Golden City was attacked during the Servant Rebellions, and countless scientists died. Doctor Nobel, Doctor Mandela, Doctor Gandhi, all these perished in the nuclear flames of the Servant Nations of China, USA and France.
In the end the rebellion was subdued, but at a great cost. The Servant Nations had decimated the globe, and only in their sanctuary in outer space does the scientists once again prosper and grow. But the servants must pay for their sins, their children must pay for their sins, and their childrens children must pay for their sins.
Unoffical Knowledge, whispered from parent to child:
The masters have warped and twisted history. There once was a planet, but it wasn't about servants versus scientists. That is just some bullshit they come up with to justify their killing and raping of generations of our kin. The scientists are not to be trusted, and for all we know, Earth is a scientists free zone. Why else are we forbidden from going down there?
Odd pieces of insight gleaned from the context of certain files on the onboard computer, or from other sources:
- The language being taught at the space station is called "English", or "US English".
- Only equipment newer than 200 years old have been branded with the personal insignia of the different scientists clans.
- There are magazines hidden inside the kitchen where there is no mention of any scientist rulers whatsoever. The magazines talk about the United States of America being in conflict with China. They talk about appearances and looks, they teach sexual advice and show many images of beautiful people using items such as Chanel (some kind of smell device), Bugatti (A vehicle of some kind), and inhalation medicine called "Real Cuban Cigars". Plenty other things are found in there too, and the ancients seem to have been focused on their items. Sadly none of these have survived the war. The Space Station only has boring canned food and military supply equipment. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#13I hereby relinquish any control of your PCs to you. You are spaceborn, and you may all start to post. -

Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#15Ok.
You being betrayed is now evident. I am kind of hoping your loyalty to the scientists isn't all that, and that you deny them, but that is up to you.
The gunnery nest is still operational. Requires only muscle power, remember.
Mary Sue is powering down. Her Ramp won't go back up and she is now pretty much a glorified building with a gattling gun on top. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#16Loot:
1 x Rifle (2d6+4 damage)
1 x Scope (currently attached to sniper rifle) (+25 skill points on small guns when scope is in use)
3 x Colt .38
1 x Beretta 9mm
1 x Double barrel 12 gauge shotgun
1 x Semi-Trailer, good condition
1 x Rusted Sedan, bad condition
1 x Hummer, dented and missing doors
1 x Landrover, good condition
1 x Red Wrangler Jeep, Mint condition
Ammo and fuel coming later. Wife calling. Seeyas! -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#17I would humbly like to apply for the rifle with the scope, for two reasons. 1) I have the worst bad luck of anyone and needs all the extra skills I can get. 2) As your only medic, it would make sense for me to stay a bit back from the action. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#18Double barrel shotgun please. No armor on anyone? -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#19
Gossamer: Heya. Okay so first question, would it be possible to interupt that scientist hologram with an action of my own? Before he says that we're demoted?
Strolen: Thank goodness for FF7. I thought they were going to have to Gladiator it with the star.
Gossamer: I was thinking about shooting the holo globe thingie.
Ancient Gamer: Yep. That is possible.
Gossamer: Okay then, rolling.
Ancient Gamer: Whatcha doing?
Gossamer: Shooting at it with small guns skill.
Gossamer: (15:53:13) Minion: Gossamer rolls 1d100 and gets 21.
Gossamer: I'm assuming there's a penalty since its small, did I make it?
Ancient Gamer: ok. -10 due to small size, but you still hit it
Gossamer: Sweet, was that enough to shut him up?
Ancient Gamer: Roll damage. You need 6 points of dam
Gossamer: Hah, right on the money (15:54:54) Minion: Gossamer rolls 1d10 and gets 6. And +2 even.
Ancient Gamer: sweet. will edit. You guys aren't demoted which makes restoring the Mary Sue easier for the computer guys
Gossamer: :D
Gossamer: Fistpump!
Ancient Gamer: also now you still have access to the cryosleep coffins
Ancient Gamer: fistbump. Could you please post this info in the Copernicus One thread, where the Loot is?
Gossamer: Great, Good day to be a Gossamer.
Gossamer: Sure thing.
-
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#20No. Not any armor except thick leather jackets on two (1 armor point)
-
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#21WARNING!
Equipment list is being transfered to char sheets thread for your new Earth Shelter (being formed by the friends you just found in your cargo)
If you want to take some of the equipment, state doing so, and it won't be added to the Shelter post. Remember, you can always come back to the shelter and trade with your friends. Their items are your items and your items are their items. You have a small post-apocalyptical tribe of very thankful, but utterly lost, friends now.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The game is being fast forwarded. The next couple of things that will happen are routine actions, not worthy of precious PbP game time.
I will fast forward one day, to dinnertime next day. The following things will have happened by then:
Katherine has tended her wound, and the bullet has been removed. She is still hurt (no HP regained), but the danger of bleeding out and infection is more or less gone
The cryosleep coffins have been opened and party members reunited with family members (Katherine), and friends (everyone).
Angus has had his roll in the sack with Wionna
The rescued friends have set up camp in the building to the right of the space-ship. They have also taken all the Colt .38 caliber guns you just found, along with 12 x .38 caliber bullets for each gun. Your friends need security, and they take shifts patrolling the building.
Basically this area will function as your adventuring base camp from now on. The Mary Sue isn't big enough to be a comfortable home for the lot of you, though you can bring everyone aboard for transportation. Not enough seats though, but some can be put in the cryosleep coffins I guess...
Everyone will have eaten food scavenged from the cars and from Mary Sue. Basically food and water is an issue right now. You have some firepower, basic transportation, but Mary Sue is offline and her right engine in need of repair
Wionna has begun looking into the engine problem. She is an excellent mechanic.
Uncle Frank is so grateful for what his niece, Katherine, has done (saved them and restored them from Cryosleep). He is a good cook, but also skilled at crafting items out of metal, and now he is proudly working on a gift to say thank you to the heroic five, as you are now being called
Mortimer is being indulged by the newcomers, who understand Angus was frustrated, but think he went a little too far. He has gotten more than his fair share of the food being cooked, and the newcomers are trying to cheer him up, even though he has always been the odd one out
A sense of fear for, and disgust towards, the scientists has begun to grow. People are feeling betrayed, and stories about loved ones that disappeared have begun emerging.
Angus has disabled the long range comm device in the Mary Sue. This to prevent the Scientists from radioing new orders to Mary Sue
Angus and Mortimer failed to reprogram / hack the Mary Sue.
There will a new entry in character creation from me: Each of the surviving friends, and all of their abilities
Checks for hacking into Mary Sue and restoring operationability: (Both computer guys in the party failed... You need to either increase your skill, at which time you can try again, or you need to find some other way to get her operational.)
(21:12:07) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d100 and gets 95.
(21:12:13) Minion: Ancient_Gamer rolls 1d100 and gets 87.
Now for the rest of the equipment:
Red Wrangler Jeep:
40 liters of gasoline
4 x bedroll - military green
4 x Military water canteen, full of pure water
Doorless dented Black Hummer H1-Retro 2097:
Batterypowered - 100 Kilometers left
4 x bedroll - military green
4 x Military water canteen, full of pure water
1 x Onboard Car Computer - Sophisticated (All computer skill usages possible on it + maps + GPS not working (satellites destroyed)
Rusted Sedan of unknown type.
1 x Mini-nuclear reactor powering the car!!!!!!!
5 x holes in the floor of the car - Watch your legs!!!
NB: The Rusted Sedan can drive endlessly, so long as the reactor is stabile. The reactor is the only thing in the car that is in good condition, but moving it would require facilities and equipment you do not possess.
Scania V8 2077
Batterypowered - 1200 Kilometers left
3 x plastic laminated porn magazines from 1978, 2074 and 2109. The mags are very graphic, and also gives a historic insight into the everchanging preferences of the ancients. The 2109 mag is interactive, and reacts to touch, thought and sexual excitement. All it needs is skin contact.
9 x bottles of Smirnoff Vodka
2 x bottles of Lagavulin Single Malt
Black Landrover
20 litres of gasoline
Loot:
1 x Rifle (2d6+4 damage)
1 x Scope (currently attached to sniper rifle) (+25 skill points on small guns when scope is in use)
3 x Colt .38 CLAIMED BY REVIVED FRIENDS
1 x Beretta 9mm
1 x Double barrel 12 gauge shotgun
1 x Semi-Trailer, good condition
1 x Rusted Sedan, bad condition
1 x Hummer, dented and missing doors
1 x Landrover, good condition
1 x Red Wrangler Jeep, Mint condition
Ammo and fuel coming later. Wife calling. Seeyas!

Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#22For the record, Angus killed the sniper before the sniper shot, before Katherine shot twice and wasted a fate point, and before Katherine got bloodied. Sniper was dead before any of that happened.
Ok, carry one. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#23Kathy spent the fate point on skill increase.
Also his shot was q bleeder, and the sniper would still have gotten off her shot.
:) -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#24Guys, I need direction.
The week of rest, reunion, exploration and interrogation has ended.
What to do now?
What does the quintet intend to do now?
Repair the Mary Sue and flee?
Dig in and carve out a piece of land, then defend?
Attack the Baron of Rembrandtplein?
Or do you have some other piece of action in mind?
Captain Phil has said that him and Angus (in the Stavros Exoskeleton) will play the part of a demolition crew, bringing down the building on the other side of the tunnel, plus removing the cars and buses that provide cover for incoming enemies. So I guess he intends to make your position more defensible.
Any more input?
Oh....
Everyone is granted a +10 skill points safe landing award to be distributed where you want.
Also, in 5 minutes the fate points will have been upgraded to what they currently are. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#25Well, I wanted this place to be more defensible, since we might not want to leave the ship.
My take would be to get the Mary sue working, and deal with the Baron.
Then deal with the scientists in due time.
-
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#26A great limitation in defensibility is that a long distant dike is all that keeps us from being flooded.
So, I;d love to relocate to higher ground. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#27Okay. So priority 1 is get Mary Sue moving. We need a new location scouted out.
-
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#28btw. Claiming shotgun.
-
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#29Gossamer: I love my adventure AG! :D But what does it mean the water level was higher outside the ditch?
Ancient Gamer: Dike. Artifical man made walls made of sand, sand bags and stuff like that to stop the water flom flooding the Netherlands
Ancient Gamer: Meaning, if someone sabotage it, the water will come rushing in.
Gossamer: Hmm, I have a hard time imagining how that would look.
Ancient Gamer: When Mortimer's week has been explained, you will realize that the Baron and his like have constructed a network of such dikes, in case one of the dikes burst
EchoMirage: or, sooner or later, it would break. but kudos to the Dutch engineers, to have a dike that holds 400 years ;)
Gossamer: Ok.
EchoMirage: ah, they built more? wow
Ancient Gamer: No, the dutch engineers kept making the dikes even after the war. They still do.
Ancient Gamer: Let me google the dikes for you, Goss
EchoMirage: ok, allow me to intone a song
Gossamer: Please.
EchoMirage: trust me, I'm an engineer, with epic skills and epic gear
Gossamer: So I go right after Luc and Marc then.
Ancient Gamer:
EchoMirage: trust me, I;m an engineer, I won't let any water near
EchoMirage: trust me, I;m an engineer, my dike will hold 400 year!
Ancient Gamer:
Ancient Gamer:
Gossamer: So the ocean is higher up than that lake? And higher up on the left side?
Ancient Gamer: Yeah. The ocean water level is higher than the land level where you guys have crashlanded
EchoMirage: oh my
Gossamer: Ah ok.
EchoMirage: let us translocate our behinds
Gossamer: So is the water I found drinkable?
Ancient Gamer: Salt water
valadaar: Phil will attempt to cobble together a flak vest from scrap metal, leather and plastic. Unless something better presents itself.
valadaar: All offense and little defence makes Phil a fragile boy :)
Gossamer: In that case, I'd say our first move ought to be find water.
Ancient Gamer: True. Lucky none of the fifteen bulles hit him. Statistically he should have been hit by 3 of them, for a statistical average of 16 points of damage. He should have been in a coma or something :)
valadaar: We have a car with a reactor - we should be able to draw of power easily and make an electolysis based water purifer :P
EchoMirage: Indeed yes
Ancient Gamer: Science roll to come up with that idea
valadaar: Though Phil would not think of that :P
EchoMirage: I should spend points on science, if possible
Ancient Gamer: You got 10 non-fate skill points to spend
Gossamer: In the long term though, I dunno. I would wanna dig in, for now at least. We'll probably need to deal with that Baron unless we flee, and there's not much to return to.
Ancient Gamer: Earth is big. Space is vast. The Moon is near. You can go adventuring and exploring, if you like.
Gossamer: Does the Mary Sue have hyper driver or something?
Ancient Gamer: No
Gossamer: What about the Copernicus? Or was that a base?
Ancient Gamer: Short range. She can travel to the moon, to space around earth and moon, and everywhere on earth
Ancient Gamer: Copernicus is an orbital space station
Gossamer: I would say that neither Kath or me has any desire to get revenge on the scientists.
EchoMirage: well, I'd love to claim Copernicus one day, but currently that's not within our capacities
EchoMirage: not for revenge, but because an intact station is of incredible value
Gossamer: Well, it's more valuable to have stuff running down here. After all the reason they sent us down here was for supplies.
Gossamer: But then again, maybe it wasn't..
Gossamer: The question is, if there was any truth to it. Otherwise, why else would they want this factory down here?
Ancient Gamer: Remember copying these comments into the Orbital Station Copernicus One thread! :)
Gossamer: Ok.
Ancient Gamer: The week ends, and the story goes on ;)
EchoMirage: well, the scientists' management was everything else than wise
valadaar: Get what the scientists want. Mess with Scientists. Survive.
valadaar: Fixated on Scientists.. Grrr
EchoMirage: my position is, find safer home with food and water, take out baron.
EchoMirage: grab his stuff.
valadaar: That falls in line with mine
EchoMirage: we have a nuclear reactor, with his stuff we may even set up some nice civilization.
valadaar: that counts as messing with scientists and gettting their stuff
EchoMirage: count me in, then :)
Gossamer: That sounds like a plan, we dig in, we take out the baron, get his stuff, and then we can worry about the scientists.
valadaar: yeah
Ancient Gamer: Alright! The course is clear, then!
EchoMirage: I just think that setting up fortification in an area that can be flooded by blowing up a piece of any of 20 miles of distant dike sucks
valadaar: agreed
EchoMirage: I would relocate first
Gossamer: But that would require us to get the Mary Sue back in the air.
valadaar: how much below sea level are we?
Ancient Gamer: The dikes are arranged in a grid like pattern, with dikes inside the dikes, in case of such an event. Unfortunately, you are in a dike bordering the ocean.
Ancient Gamer: 4 meters
EchoMirage: hence my point
EchoMirage: we need to hack the Mary Sue, and repair her too
EchoMirage: question: did you roll my science skill for hacking too?
EchoMirage: because I have even a comp specialty
Gossamer: Then the ones who have those skills ought to improve em and try those checks again.
EchoMirage: I will put the 10 free points into computers (science) anyway
Ancient Gamer: Wionna can repair her, given enough spare parts. You need water, food (Mortimer fixed those in the chat the other day... coming up in his post), spare parts, hacking Mary Sue, then besting the Baron and getting his stuff in the Bohr facility.
EchoMirage: hm, l'Ancienne?
Ancient Gamer: Okay. You will get another try at hacking the Mary Sue after we start up the game again tomorrow then.
Ancient Gamer: Yes?
valadaar: Water -some genius comes up with my idea. Food - fish?
EchoMirage: shall I edit Becca in the char creation to reflect new skill level then?
Gossamer: Kath is a genius but not in Science.
Ancient Gamer: Yes. Excellent.
Ancient Gamer: I love up to date char sheets
Ancient Gamer: As you can see on Mary Sue's sheet. Constantly evolving.
Ancient Gamer: Need to change the coffins to unoccupied!!!! Yikes!
valadaar: Done so as well. Upgraded skills he's used.
valadaar: The Mary sue would float if the hatches are all nicely closed, tight
valadaar: right I meant
Gossamer: Tight works too.
Gossamer: :)
Ancient Gamer: Yes. The Mary Sue is space-safe. She is most certainly waterproof.
Ancient Gamer: She would probably rest on the ocean floor though. Too much heavy stuff inside.
-
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#30And I also approve of that plan. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#31This is a good place to enjoy a hiatus away from it all.
Need to focus on RL for a while, but I will be back to the site.
My hope is that all you guys are still around and ready to play when I do.
Seeya in a good while, guys. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#32Take care. Time is a funny thing on Strolens...
-
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#33What?! So sudden? Awww... :( Hope you get things in order and return soon! -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#34No worries, it will start again.
Think of it like the time between table top sessions.
I am hoping that the holidays will be a better time to go exploring the post apocalyptical wastes of Holland, the World and outer space.
So... Perhaps in three weeks time? :) -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#35the game has restarted. postey postey. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#36Ancient Gamer: Whether she is dead or not depends on the actions of you guys.
Gossamer: Do you mean dead as in doesn't communicate or dead as in, just can't fly?
Ancient Gamer: the former
Gossamer: I thought I prevented that?
Gossamer: He sat alone, illuminated by the light of Mary Sue's computer screens. He had managed to disable the communications device early on, in case the scientists would try to order her to do something stupid. But restoring their control of her seemed to be more difficult.
Gossamer: "Access restricted, operation illegal", her voice was husky, almost sensual as ever.
Gossamer: "You have undone us, mr. Marion, and in the process undone yourselves. Mary Sue...", there was a loud bang, and the holographic device burst into separate pieces.
Gossamer: So seemingly, she can still communicate with us.
Ancient Gamer: Ah, yes. My bad. Forgot you saved the day! :)
-
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#37Trying to Keep the game fast paced I Sometimes make decisions for your character.
Like the tech choices made by Angus while hacking Mary Sue.
Let it be clear that these choices are reversible. You guys are in charge and what I do I do to overcome the inherent weaknesses of PbP (game sluggishness)
If you disagree... Let it be known. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#38Will post this evening. -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#39Holy crap!
Mort fumbles! -
Re: Orbital Station Copernicus One
#40A new combat round is starting.
I rolled 9 initiative in the full chat.
1d10.
lowest roll wins. remember modifications.
