Random Tag
#1How about this? Using Squiggle Brackets as placeholders:
[ RANDOM [ [ link1 ] | [ link2 ] | [ link3 ]]]
or
[ RANDOM [
You Die |
|
]
]
Chance for one of the links/text to occur, with equal distributions.
Uses:
Easy Peasy Generators
Choose Your Own Adventure type subs

Re: Random Tag
#2That is an interesting concept. In that case you would select and write the three links and it would choose one of those selections randomly for you then.
I wrote down Mad Libs from the other conversation and this is a fun twist on making it more focuse and automated. With that, you can make sure it makes sense too.
First time I read it wrong and thought it would be fun for people to be able to develop some random text Mad Lib similar to that:
You are wandering through [random|location] and find a [random|item] that was lost by [random|npc] etc etc.
You probably know better than I how simple it might be to do. You talking forum then I am assuming? For the forum it is located at /guild/Sources/Post.php if you wanted to dabble. Search for "strolen" and that is where my autolink for subs using double brackets is. (if you use single brackets it assumes it is some kind of bbcode and goes through those wickets) -
Re: Random Tag
#3No, I was actually thinking of submissions using this, though I did not say it. You could, for example, create generators without a line of code. Just a bit of finicky formatting and you are good to go.
The madlib idea - random freetext selection - is cool too,

Re: Random Tag
#4The Madlib idea is indeed a good one!! -
Re: Random Tag
#5Finicky formatting is a sure sign that a simple interface would help considerably. A quick little javascript app wouldn't be hard, once we had the actual format set in stone. -
Re: Random Tag
#6I like this idea -
Re: Random Tag
#7Alternately, we could use YAML: http://yaml.org/
It has PHP and Javascript libraries, AND it's human-readable. Thoughts? -
Re: Random Tag
#8I just started using yaml today coincidentally enough. Python in my case.
So the inner text would be interpreted as yaml. Im good with that. Hopefully others would be.

Re: Random Tag
#9Python was my original use-case for YAML as well. It just ends up being so clean.
