Approval prior to post
#1Im thinking we need to have new users somehow vetted before they can post to the forum. Spammers are starting to get pretty bad. Perhaps only the greeting topic being open for brand new unvetted users.
Maybe allow posts if a member of >1 level vouches for them, or they submit something, etc.
Having a url and custom sig should also be a level feature, though not too high a one.

Re: Approval prior to post
#2I made it 5 posts in order to have a signature.
Hard for me to make the move to limit first time posters. Will look into more anti-spam stuff since I only have a couple things going. -
Re: Approval prior to post
#3Installed Askimet (installing now anyway). Will see how that works out. -
Re: Approval prior to post
#4Um, I can't remove the spam.... :(

Re: Approval prior to post
#5I should have experimented, but I wonder if they are visible to non-admins.
There are no settings to change so not sure what I can do with it. They were identified, just nothing happened. :(
Side note, I made it so that the first three posts by anybody have to be validated by the turing thing. So if spam still happens I will remove it as it is a tiny pain for the newbies. -
Re: Approval prior to post
#6I think so, since Gossamer commented on them after I had banned/deleted the user.
Gossamer: Tons of spam again I see...
MysticMoon: Will the madness never end!?
MysticMoon: I have this desire to write a sub about an insane person who goes through spam looking for secret messages and hidden meanings. Can't quite come up with a unique twist, though
MysticMoon: Or better yet: Spammomancy
MysticMoon: The art of casting augeries via a careful analysis of spam
MysticMoon: To be successful, however, it requires the entrails of a spammer
Gossamer: I suppose finding a hidden meaning in the spam wouldn't be much of a twist....but maybe that message leads him to become a spammer...or maybe that what he thought was spam was the ordinary stuff, while he had been busy replying to real spam messages he saw as normal.
Gossamer: Or that the company that sells Spam in a can is really responsible for the world's least successful PR campaign, uh which is the....spam.
MysticMoon:
MysticMoon: The thought of practicing spammomancy leading one to become a spammer is scary stuff
MysticMoon: Best to stick with classic Occult Brotherhood type stuff. Much less scary -

#7Crap. They turn pink for you though too don't they?
Wonder what the purpose of that mod is then....it identifies it but doesn't do anything to it? What the hell.
