Just a brief idea I had (Might have been said before. Dunno) Why not make an area where each person or group of people could have there own place. Like maybe somebody wants to set up a workshop where they can sit for hours and invent clock-work doo-hickies.

Suggestions for the name could be some kind of competetion. The entries could be things like the name of a city or just something stupid like Town Square... Whatever. The place could be the suggested name of the winner.

I'm not sure I understand, Syv. What do you mean?

I don't quite understand it either. Treat me like a child and explain it as well as you can. Knowing exactly what you are thinking is the only way I can make determinations on the feasibility of something. I don't have a whole lot of time to experiment with stuff so getting a good explanation can save a lot of time.

    Thanks.

The basic idea is to have a sub forum where people can make a sub forum to that and declare it their own.
    eg.
Strolen's Citadel is the main forum.
in the index I would go to The City (Or whatever it will be called)
Then another index appears showing each persons place.
Hypothetically speaking, maybe C-Puff could start her own minor board called "Archery Ring". People can go there and chat while the area is treated as a archery range.

It will make explaining the scenery different.

P.S. I suck at explaining things.

MY HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE!!!11!111!one
Okay... How can I make this simpler... *Paces up and down at the same time*
    Umm...
    Hypothetical (not real)
    Your login to Strolen's Citadel.
You click on the link "places".
More links show for different places.
You click on your place or one you want to visit.
  8. And that is different from what you can do now HOW?

    Ammeded Post:
I understand your idea for a new category system that would be based on geography rather than topic. The question is, would you want to search through 190 different locations to find content that interested you rather than to head towards a general forum and individual threads? Many of those spaces would be empty or nearly empty, as people would start them... post once or twice and move on. Then if you look for the secret library long enough you would find my 500 some odd posts. Which you would probably miss as I tend to be one of those tucked in the corner types.

If this was a MUD/ MUSH/ MUX your idea would be a maybe because the interface creates a text based 3d experience. But since this is not, isn't it simpler..

If you want to chat, you go to the Tavern or continue your introduction thread. Or you can go set up a blogish journal thread.

If you want to RP, you post in the role play areas.

If you want to play with ideas, there are three some odd forums to work with.

If you want to help with any of the special projects, you can post in those areas.

If you want to do something else, the question I want you to think about is, "Is this the board I want to do that with?"

Let me try this another way...

Would you know that you would have to head to the shops to find a list of spells you can use, or information on the Anazi? Would you know you had to head to the docks to find legends and lore, though there is a shop that has one in it. Would you be looking for a secret door to find a secret library with 1200 game tips? Would you know that CP's space was the place/ person to see about Chtulu. Would you know to seach out Ephe's area to learn about langauge. The answer is probably no. Such a system is not as intuitive as the tried and true forum thread listing. Most people would not search the environment for long enough to find what they want. They would get frustrated or bored and leave. And that would leave the site where?

The idea is valid, but really does not fit the focus of the site (IMO). And it would be a $#@$@%# to code. .. (unless you want to code and run an open creation mush environment server.)

IMO There are already more Fora here for realy keeping it all up and following it all.

Besides that, I know what is comming next:
    - I want to moderate my own forum tree
    - I want to be able to revoke acces to part of my forum tree
    - I want memebers to ask me for access to my part of the forum tree
    - I am basicaly using the Strolen forum as "my own forum"

hmmm, there is other places to do that if you ask me.
If I am right, the question is not merly, is it possible, is it feasable, is it wishable, but also is Strolen nice enough to share his DB for hosting my forum.

I would not realy want to ask for that by the way.

An interesting idea overall but not in the scope of what these pages want to be. I am even of the opinion that the forums need to be trimmed down a little bit and not expanded on. Right now there is quite a bit going on it a lot of different conferences and there are probably only a few people that keep up with it all right now. By adding more we would dilute ourselves even farther and spend more time looking around then going to the main areas of interest and finding and being able to reply to what we want.

Thanks for taking the time to offer the suggestion!! Not a bad suggestion at all, just not something we want to do with this site. Don't hesitate to bring up anything else you have concerns or ideas about as well.

Hey no problem. It was just that. A suggestion.
And Moonhunter, I see your point. Well I'll post anything else that might ooze from my over active imagination.

I was thinking about quoting Strolen, but .....

I totaly agree with him that currently the forums already are realy diluted and it sometimes is realy hard to figure out where a particular post should go.

You very often see the same kind of discussion start in three or more different fora.... Not realy usefull if you ask me.

Personaly I think the two OOC (or out of count) fora should be combined as well. Both are intended for "chatter", so why have two different ones...

Because the one chat forum is completely sensless with no structure and most of us don't want to read any of that. I will occasionally but that kind of chatting doesn't interest me or many of the people at the Citadel.

The other forum is structured under actual topics where the thread topic should be followed and post should stay in the subject. The thread topics are actually interesting to a multitude of people vs the verbal exchanges in the other that are aimed at only a few. Easy to look at the Tavern and see by the thread name something that interests me and I can just skip the other forum altogether if I like.

I meant senseless and no structure in the best of ways. :P
