  1. Commenting Challenges

    #1
    Alright, here's the deal:

Authors love comments on their work, and we're going to deliver.  The challenge is to pick a freetext from the following list, and reply to this thread with the one you have chosen.

    http://strolen.com/freetext

Your mission is to comment on EVERY SINGLE submission that has this freetext.  Voting is optional.  Leaving an idea on the sub also counts, but upvoting comments/ideas does not.

    Additional Info:

The freetext you choose must have at least 5 submissions that it applies to (was going to go higher, but some submissions are really long).
If you have already commented on a submission with that freetext, you are free to skip it if you choose.
Also, once you've completed the challenge, please respond back to your original post on this thread.  We're handing out kudos and imaginary cookies (and possibly Internet Points, while supply lasts).

    UPDATE:
Besides the good feeling you will attain by completing this challenge, I now offer the following prize:  I will comment (and vote) on three submissions of choice for anyone who completes this challenge.  They don't have to be your own.  Please PM me your choices, and I will make sure they go to the top of my queue. :)

    Pledges:
    Murometz -- Spear
    Dossta -- 30
    MysticMoon -- Swamp

    Completed:
    valadaar -- Mercenary
    Moonlake -- 5in1 and Decathros

    Challenge accepted. I choose "Spear"
  3. Re: Commenting Challenges

    I choose the freetext "30":

    http://strolen.com/freetext/30

I've commented on a bunch of these, but now it's time to fill in the blanks.  Just 143 subs to sort through . . .
  4. Re: Commenting Challenges

    I'll take http://strolen.com/freetext/Swamp

Twice as challenging as spear :P
  5. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #5
    I'll take Mercenary.

  6. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #6
One question, how to handle subs already commented upon?  skip or come up with another comment?
  7. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #7
Skip.  Of course, if you'd like to comment again, feel free, but it doesn't matter for this challenge.
  8. Re: Commenting Challenges

How is this going for you guys?  I've gotten through 3 pages of 30s, with another 5 to go (though I have already commented on many of them in the past).
  9. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #9
I _think_ I got all the mercenaries actually.

I'll try to check again tonight when I have my votes back.
  10. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #10
Awesome.  If so, you're going to get a truckload of Internet Points for being the first person to complete it :)  Please remember to update your original post when you've confirmed it.  (Oh, and if you have a sub that you would like me to comment on, I'll throw that into the mix as well).
  11. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #11
I'll save that for when I actually complete one of my weaver's subs.
    :)
  12. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #12
As you wish.  I try to comment on all Weaver submissions, regardless.
  13. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #13
Okay, they (mercenaries) are all commented, either with ancient or recent comments.

    :)
  14. Re: Commenting Challenges

Val, I'm adding a prize to this challenge.  I'll comment (and vote) on 3 submissions of choice for anyone who completes this.  PM me your choices and I'll put them next in the queue. :)

Easiest is to go to http://strolen.com/author/valadaar

Scroll down to Unvoted By Author and click what grabs ya :)

    Done, and done!
  17. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #17
I will take "5 in 1"- not just the quest subs but the associated subs as well. I will be taking my time with this, though.
I will now also take "Decathros" but really this is a very minor freetext with 4 subs only (the majority is on a forum thread, this is the setting/map challenge started by SE, I think it's called sth like the Land of 10 Authors or sth) but I'm just doing this cos Axle's sub got me interested in the setting so I don't expect to get 3 votes on my subs just for doing it but just wanted to list it here cos it belongs.
  18. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #18
Tab on progress: 6/7 done on 5in1! Decathros done!

  19. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #19
Done with this challenge! I realised I used ambiguous wording when I responded to this challenge (associated subs could be interpreted as the 5 subs incorporated or any subs mentioned/linked to it somehow) so I actually dipped into the linkbacks etc. but then some of them are just too big and I grow tired of reading over them so I'm declaring this to be over :P

The top 3 subs that I would like a vote on are:
    Keeper of the Hourglass
    Posting Societies
    General Posting Advice

Great job, Moon!  I'll put those three into the top of my queue and get you some feedback ASAP.  Thanks for participating!
  21. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #21
    Thanks, that was prompt.
  22. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #22
I accept the challenge!  I choose 100 word submissions and there are 55 of them!
  23. Re: Commenting Challenges

Dossta has gone MIA b/c he's writing a novel (last I heard) but as de facto leader of the Weaver Guild made by circumstance, I will step in for him in the interim and maybe get Longspeak into this as well given that he's the other Weaver active on the Citadel that should have some time to spare for this so that we could share the workload b/w the 2 of us, hopefully.
  24. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #24
btw, that means this is back in action so any of the previous pledgers to this who still haven't completed it should get a move on this. Go, march forth and comment. :battleaxe:

    Update:

Serves me right. I picked "spear" initially because there weren't that many of them :P

Having started searching through spears however, I have discovered that they are...Legion.

So now, while commenting on freetext spears, i'm also trying to attach "spear" freetexts to the spears that don't have them.

Got to a bunch tonight, will proceed with more tomorrow.
  26. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #26
Well, according to the actual freetext page, there're only 6 spears but good work on finding the wayward ones and reattaching the right label to them
  27. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #27
Im really enjoying the 100 words! I'll be sad when I'm finished!
  28. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #28
    Added new one for you
  29. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #29
Well, the 100 words were the most active of freetexts around in terms of activity. I believe I myself have occasionally added a few of my 'abandoned ideas' to the fold.

btw, just rolled out Commenting Challenge Addendum, guys. Watch out for it in its own new thread! *applause and flowers*
  30. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #30
There should only be one of 2 left of the 57  and I'm done, some really really good stuff in this 100 word freetext but as I commented on one of them ,I disagree that these are only worthy of a max vote of 3 or so.A lot of them sparked my imagination. Many could sustain sizable campaigns on there own
  31. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #31
Sweet. I agree with you that 100s should not always be a 3 in a general sense. In a practical sense, I think most 100s are 3s because the word count is such that unless the underlying idea is spectacular, people will see it as "well, this is an abandoned idea, not much effort gone into it, therefore a 3". But quite glad to find that you liked quite a number of my own 100s.  :)
  32. Re: Commenting Challenges

    #32
Or, a 3 could be what it says it is..."Good solid idea, nothing fancy" :)

That as well, thanks Muro for reminding me again of this perspective. I'm naturally skewed towards thinking negatively of a 3 but it's really still a praise of the work. I'm getting better at thinking the latter way now but occasionally the lapse comes in again.

Resurrected one of my old sub as a 100 word so 3 more to go for you.
  35. Re: Commenting Challenges

Should I be doing something yet?
  36. Re: Commenting Challenges

    Doesn't seem like it.

Sweet! Not doing something is my favorite thing to do! :P

I concord, ideally everyone has one of such days where they feel such.
