#1Sniperspy brought up a point that has been in the back of my mind for quite awhile. The problem is that once a submission is put in and it leaves the front page, it is rarely viewed or commented on anymore. The Citadelians (or whatever we call ourselves) for the most part stick with the new stuff since we have seen it. New viewers sometimes have the patience to dig through the old stuff and give some fresh comments that sometimes spur some discussion but then they quickly dissappear again.
So I want to try and be creative to at least bring some of the older submissions back to the notice of all occasionally. There is not going to be any end all fix I doubt, but if we can glean one or two from the sludge pile periodically I would feel much better.
Here are a couple of ideas I thought of.
1) Add a single random submission to be the first one listed.
2) Make the submitted date dynamic so that whenever it is edited or commented on, the date submitted date gets updated so that it gets bumped to the front.
3) Have a section on the right like on the index page that has a list of 5 or 10 submissions. Can be random, low hits, most voted, highest rated, or whatever. Could even be random on what kind of list is shown.
4) Give each person a favorite (in the works anyway for their own page) but have them choose their top 5 favorites in each catagory then randomly choose a person and show their favorites in a box on the right like on the index page.
Basically looking for ideas to unbury the hidden treasures that this site has besides actively hunting through them to find something to look at. I am very guilty of just looking at the most recent ones but if there was something that fed them to me (I am lazy) then I may be more apt to take a second look at a lot of the older ones.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -

#25) A featured submitter. Randomly choose somebody and show up to 10 of their submissions in that box to the right thing. -
How about a list...
#3How about an alphabetical list that lists each entry and perhaps who did it and the date done.
Add a search feature to that page and it might solve your issue. -

#4Ooohh. The search. Bang. Point taken!!
I have a half search on a couple of them, but I never got around to the text/title search. That is fun to code to, not sure why I have been dodging it.....
Will have search only each type or the every damn submission. Might be fun!!
And the quicky list....with just those things you mentioned and maybe the rating...or actually it is just as easy to make yours the default but then be able to add ratings or # comments. User defined criteria is not too hard either...hmmmmm
I could enhance that useless stats page to do that. Make links for quick references and such.
Alphabetical by title
Alphabetical by author (only authors that actually submitted anything with submission count and option to view their submissions in the quicky view)
Highest rating by vote count
etc etc.
Ideas may clarify themselves as I start messing with it over the coming weeks.
Could make quite a few little quick links. The better ideas could possible find their way to the other submission pages while the stat page could hold all useless and useful searches. Gives me a whole bunch of options to play with. Yeah. -

#5I like the bit about alter the date to the most recent comment. Also like the Random favs. On the front page, there is a random plot and a random item. Maybe you should extend that to items and settings. Maybe a combination of all of the above.
I've seen some places that had a generator. Maybe a "Campaing Generator" or something in which you are given a random plot, featured item or two, a few important people, and a place.
