Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#41I vote for the 200gp pot-O'-gold plus val's 50 shortly :D -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#42Korchel had only about 3 gp 6 sp left when he started... -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#43The pooling option makes sense.
Atacuso had a fair bit after character creation, I think 30+ gp.
Also, I realize now I forgot to buy a clothing set for Atacuso on the start. I can retcon him being naked for the whole adventure those far, or go back and give him an adventurer's outfit. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#44Give the poor kid some clothes, lad! Can't have Atacuso tripping up on all his bits whenever he runs! -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#45I am going to light a fire under our asses. We shall soon be facing our own deaths. Some of us may not make it. I say we face death like men. Like companions in arms! Let us fight as if we will live forever!

Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#46Your fragile prayer is swallowed by the enormity of the Ship Graveyard...
OR IS IT!?
Here is a rough map to give you all an indication of what's happening. I drew it on a grid map that came with the starter kit for Pathfinder.
Even though it's a grid map, pay no attention to the grid - it's not really to scale, and I have no intention of using the grid as a measurement. In fact, the area's a bit larger than I drew it up as.
Atacuso made a move to flank the corpse so i put him over to the side a bit. The rest of you remain back further.
At = Atacuso
Ar = Aredhel
K = Korchel
H = Helgkhor
S = OHs**tSKELETONS!
Wreckages of vessels lie to either side of you. In the middle lies the corpse against a rocky protrusion (about 3 feet tall)
[img width=400 height=300]http://i48.tinypic.com/qrm8wg.jpg
Image can be clicked for a larger view.
I probably won't be using that grid again for a while; until I buy some metho to wipe it all clean ('cos I used a permanent marker ) -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#47Very nice, SE!
"I think a lvl1 party would do best to avoid fighting 7 skeletons"-Echo
Wha? Geez, how powerful are pathfinder skeletons!? These are merely walking bones for us to bash and shatter boys!
right? or? :what: -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#48Well, PF skeletons...
CR 1/3 as per listing, i.e. 3 are one easy encounter for a lvl 1 party of four, 6 are considered a tougher fight and 6 + 1 boss skelly is a tough boss fight :) really, CR 3 can thoroughly trounce a lvl 1 party :) let's face it, a skelly can down Aredhel with 1 good attack, and Helghkor goes down with a few hits; your armor is not awesome by any stretch of the word, so you will get hit repeatedly. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#49I see...
In that case,
Metandris pulled a sling out from a pocket of his robes, and a carefully selected stone to fire.
Wood-face, put that silly, flimsy sling away and get your band-aids ready, stay close to me  -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#50Its an attack roll - not a good one, but until you are hurt there is nothing else for him to do. Racoon is staying close to Metandris for the moment.
SE: Can I get a HP roll for the raccoon - 2d8.
-
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#51Ahhh, the joys of low-level adventuring...the raccoon has more hit points than we do  -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#52We do have a party of five rather than four, so I suppose we have a slight advantage over a standard group.
But noting that the skeletons haven't done anything yet, perhaps we can parley with them. Skeletons parley, right? -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#53Typically they are mindless and simply follow the directions of whoever created them.
That they have rings that seem to be their source means they are unlikely to be typical :)
-
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#54Latest thought: Have Carus pluck 1 ring off 1 skelly finger, and lets see what happens. Don't worry, I'll have the birds back! :D -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#55It also means they have a convenient weakness.
I see a number of potential options here:
Use acid to dissolve/corrode the rings, rendering them unusable
Use magic fire to melt the rings (the melting point of silver is 1,763°F/961.8°C, so conventional fire will be unproductive - perhaps our dragon augur could conjure something
Do some precise shots to forcibly remove the skeletal fingers, and thus the rings
Grapple a skeleton, remove the ring arm, and beat the other skeletons with it
Compliment the skeletons on their attractive rings, ask who their jeweler is, etc., and flatter our way through (note: given our party's generally low charisma, this may not be tenable)
-
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#56The friendly raccoon has 7hp (6, 2).
I like that you're all thinking :p -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#57If you take a look at the map, the ship which the Skeleton indicates is the largest ship on the right wall. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#58Here's a rough map of the first floor of the vessel, should you all wish to enter (it's up to you!)
[img width=400 height=191]http://s23.postimage.org/ky65y7xi3/shipflr1.png
Here is what Aredhel may glean from Carus's investigation:
1: The entrance. broken into the hull of the ship is a way in - several sturdy planks ramp upwards to allow entrance.
2: Six hammocks are on this side of the ship, one high and one low on each section.
3: The main mast pole for the ship.
4: Three were-rats sit here on rickety chairs. They look like flea-ridden, underfed wretches. they are playing some kind of gambling game with knuckle-bones on the table and arguing amongst one another about how hungry they are.
5: A hessian sack sits here, next to the rats.
6: A seperated room without a door. Contains two chests, one broken.
7: Stairs up to the deck.
Several torches are in holders along the walls. The place is filthy with faeces and general waste, and smells horribly (think dead mouse/rat smell.)
I'll draw up the 2nd floor at a later date.
Also a disclaimer: don't pay TOO much attention to the Pathfinder's were-rats as according to the book or website; I'm trying to equalize things for the game and it may not match up to what the pathfinder book says. This goes for all enemies, past and future. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#59Awesome that! ^
Wish i could draw well enough to bother including pics like this, when i gm :p
Aside: Have we regenerated/healed any more hit points since the last time? I do feel a bit healthier, if that matters. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#60Hmm, I suppose it HAS been a while. I'll grant you all an additional 2 hp which puts you all as thus:
Helgkhor:
13/15
Korchel
8/8
Aredhel
8/8
Atacuso
12/12
Helgkhor's arm is still a bit sore from that bite, but Korchel's shoulder feels much better now, thank you! The other two could run a marathon.
Oh, what's Carus's HP, btw Echo?
Carus ?/?
The-great-name-changing-raccoon: 7/7
Also, it's only a crappy ms-paint scribbleup Muro :p I'm confident you could do better with no effort! I add these maps because i'm afraid I don't describe areas well enough and need the map to help get across my thoughts. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#61I add these maps because i'm afraid I don't describe areas well enough and need the map to help get across my thoughts.
That is why I love stuff like that! I feel the same way about myself :) -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#62I forgot to mention during character creation, that Helgkhor is a great swimmer, and can hold his breath for minutes if need be. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#63Carus has half my HP, rounded up, i.e. 4 glorious HP of birdy toughness. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#64Holding back and using whatever I can as cover. If they get in melee range with Metandris,
(22:54:15) valadaar: hi folks
(22:54:30) ChatBot: valadaar rolls 1d20 and gets 17. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#65Jolly good. We now await our Wizard for his action, and then I shall post some results! -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#66A good opening round, Mentlegen! Only Korchel got some unlucky rolls. Here is the story thus far:
HP:
Ratman 1 (Axe wererat)
18 - 11 Helgkhor's hit
7 -5 Aredhel acid burn
2
Ratman 2
18 - 12 Atacuso's Halberd
6 - 6 Metandris's sword
0 (DEAD)
Ratman 3
18

Atacuso has been bitten (4 dmg), and needed a fortitude save against lycanthrope. I've rolled this, and am keeping the results.

Atacuso has been bitten (4 dmg), and needed a fortitude save against lycanthrope. I've rolled this, and am keeping the results.
So, to clarify, there's a chance Atacuso could turn into a giant rat in the right conditions?
AWESOME. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#68Depends on the results of the roll :p but yes, there is a chance.
Quite a lot for the youngster fresh from the swamps to experience :p -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#69He's seen his fair share of weirdness in the swamps: it's said that some of the followers of the Witch-Queen Lescelina can become gatorfolk when the stars are right.
Now, turning into an overgrown rat isn't quite the same as a bipedal apex predator, but you've got to start somewhere. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#70Just a call-out to Valadaar and Wulfey: What are your actions against yonder ratmen? I know Muro is inundated with children and work at the moment.
-
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#71Ill post more later, but he will hang back and hold his curative spell in reserve. Essentailly nothing unless something tries to attack him.
-
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#72It was good to wake up today and see that nearly everyone had posted already :D Anyone know of Dozus's whereabouts? :p
I'm thinking i'm going to make a couple of changes when we get to the second chapter (hopefully not too far away). Some changes to the system and rules for simplicity, and some changes to the way I run the game - I know i've pretty much railroaded you all in one direction and i'm thinking of making the game more open-ended for you all, plus perhaps give time to work on character development.
I'll run it all by you gents when the chapter's ended anyway; i'll get your opinions and advice before I do anything drastic :D -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#73Dozus is back!
Family stuff, had planned to be back at the beginning of the weak, but complications made it so that I haven't arrived until now. But here I am. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#74Let's fire this bad boy back up! I'd like to see what happens next.
Shadoweagle, when one of us doesn't post, just put them on autopilot for a round. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#75Concur!
and Conquer!
-
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#76Hmm, okay, maybe! Let me ping everyone :p
It would be nice to at least see chapter 1 come to completion! -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#77Okey doke. Here we go! Here's a wee map for you all. Remember; my maps are only for a general visual aid, they may not be to scale etc...
The top bit of the pic is the cabin you are all in currently, and the bottom section is the outside area.
Click the pic to enlarge it.

Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#78What seems to have derailed us? I was just starting to get a feel for my character. -
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#79I think it is safe to assume that the Barbarian is going to attack someone.
Metandris is going to hang back and get involved only if it becomes dire.
-
Re: [Decathros] The Originators' Slumber
#80Bit of a Hectic time for me at the moment, Wulf - a new family member has arrived - I don't know when ill next be able to sit down and have a good run at this game.
