   Best of Breed would probably just be a query that would update based on the submissions.
   
   
   Say it requires a minimum of 5 votes with an average above 4.2 and a hoh or something? It would have to be something I write a script for to find I think.
   

   
   
   
   If you just set up a minimum of 5 votes + high avg + hoh, and the highest average gets displayed, one sub will rise to the top and never ever leave. I would like to propose an alternative nonsensical compromise to deciding BoB. Each sub gets a score (which probably makes sense to put in a script to prevent the extra page load time), and the sub with the highest score is the BoB.
   
   
   Score = average rating + count of votes + (2*count of hoh votes) + (5*count of golden) - (5* floor(year(now)-year(submitted)))
   
   
   This way, every year the existing BoB subs will lose 5 points to make way for newer subs.
   
   
   Lastly, I feel compelled to think up ways to fill in the empty level privileges, and the BoB feature offers a fairly easy solution (I think). Your script could count the votes and average rating of only the votes from lvl 8+ Strolenites. I don't know how difficult that would be to implement, and I'd be OK if you'd rather not bother with it, but it's an idea for your consideration.

   Newer goldens would dominate but very slowly drift away. Still trying to wrap my head around it. I almost want to morph the golden to fit this vs making it a new award category.
   
   Although I do like the ideas of an automated system to pick the best subs as well and still leaving the HoH as a simple reward for an awesome post and keeping Goldens for the elite. This would fit a nice niche inbetween.
   
   I like the idea overall, but something isn't setting perfect with me yet and I don't know what it is.

   Does anyone else have any ideas for how to work this? The implementation shouldn't be an issue.
   
   I think we agree that a cool little snippet that just shows you the (current) best example of a sub for whatever category combination you've selected is what we're after, but maybe how we go about determining what makes the "best of breed" needs ironing out. Any ideas?
   
   For example, we could just say that the BoB is determined by the number of Golden votes minus the number of years it's been out there. Or we could steer clear of Golden subs and just say that the most HoHs gets the pedestal. Should we even worry about how long ago the BoB sub was submitted (ie. make the previous BoB subs easier to surpass as they get older)?

   Have BoB select randomly from between 5-10 subs that fit the requirement?
