    Just had a thought.

Quests, instead of them just being a month quest and then over...

How about after the quest then the ability to part of the winning is just over but the quest remains a quest.

Then it becomes of the tracked awards on the user pages and we continue to accumulate more awesome quest submissions.

On the submission page, the active quest will just be highlighted somehow on the quest selection.

Was even thinking of listing all the quests available on each user's page (if there is an active one, highlight it) and challenge them to submit one to each of the quests. Won't take that long either and since it is easy and I like, will probably put it together today.

Brilliant concept! There's  several quests I missed during my lengthy absence years ago, and a few more I just didn't get around to entering; being able to go back and still add to the quest roster with some subs would be neat, and might help those quests with only a few additions gain a little more attention.

It's also a good way to show new comers "look we have special events here every so often!" and much easier to find quest archives without having to hunt for them.

I'm reasonably on-board with this idea, so long as we have a way to delineate between "on time" subs and "afterwards" subs. I can see a slew of problems on the horizon if we don't keep them at least partially separate.

As a curiosity though, what advantage does having the sub tagged as the quest give other than showing up in the quest listing? Anything?

Hmm, I guess I see what you mean knowing if the sub was during the original quest. Each quest has the original times on it so that is easy enough to track by default. Everything is still in place for that.

No advantage except another site challenge type thing and will have a badge. A badge different than the current one as well to differentiate between those that did the original quests vs. the one that did quests at their leisure. But, really, nothing. But what does benefit does anything have when it comes down to it. Simply another challenge, another way to group submissions together and another way to rehighlight parts of the Citadel the sometimes get forgotten.

    Getting there.

Quests are better setup in your Citadel profile. Still trying to figure out the organization of that page.

Have the shell of the quests on the submission page too. Will see if I can get that working tonight and this phase of the quest idea is almost done.

I think this is a fantastic idea!  Quests are kind of like challenges to our members -- if you do them, you get extra XP and recognition.  I believe that it would be nice for Strolenites to have a list of challenges that they can complete on their own time.  Bringing back old quests is certainly one way to do this.  Another is to develop more general challenges (like those in your Guilds forum post), and list them somewhere.

A site that does a really good job with the "challenges" idea is slimkicker.com -- a weight loss site that attempts to "gamify" the whole thing.  You can choose to "join a challenge" (no sugar for a week, 10 pushups a day for a week, etc), and that challenge will be listed on your profile until you've completed it (with a nice little progress bar).  When you've completed that challenge, you get an XP dump and the challenge shows up on a list of "completed challenges" on your profile.  Kind of like our award badge (5 item submissions, etc), actually.  In fact, if you just take the requirements for all of those award badges and list them somewhere, you'll have a pretty solid list of challenges to start with.

Sorry for the mind-dump.  Still waking up.

I successfully updated one of my subs into an elder quest. So give it a go.

I put a default 15xp bonus to adding to any old quests (too lazy to have to write another query to match the original quest and maybe those subs shouldn't get  the full anyway).

Slimkicker has actually provided a bit of inspiration so you wouldn't be surprised to know I have an account. ( I prefer sparkpeople for actual tracking stuff though but slimkicker is a nice novelty that I am familiar with) The way it is implemented I do like and will do something similar to it. They do it well enough to spend some time researching it. Instead of checking in we will have comments and such but, in principle, somewhat similar.
