  1. Weird AJAX bug

When I voted and commented on the sub River's Coin, the comment didn't immediately appear. Just to be sure, I opened the same page in a new tab and saw my vote and comment, so the post was successful. My previous couple of votes/comments on other subs did not have this problem.

The only difference I could see between those previous comments and this one is that I had upvoted a couple of others' comments in the River's Coin sub. One of them was a reply to another comment and it did a full page reload to http://strolen.com/viewing/6784#82082 (with the comment id included as the URL fragment) rather than updating through AJAX (as the others had done.)

Curious. The conditions you give are outstanding for helping troubleshoot. In this case with ajax I am not sure what the culprit could have been. The url shouldn't matter too much because I grab all the data out of the database whether it is text or not so the same information should be available no matter what. Regardless of the updates, there will still be the empty div where the returned content should have been thrown so not missing that and since it sent it behind the scenes that means the initial script is properly taking over the form.

Very odd I must say. Was talking out loud above so you can ignore it. I will see about the ajax update to the replies though and take a look but I might have to chalk this out to a vortexual outer synthesization of the fourth core.

The same thing just happened with Curse of Earth and Iron. This time, though, the only thing I did was add a comment. There were no other comments. Just a straightforward vote and comment on a new sub.

I'm inclined to blame pixies. Or maybe gnomes. They do get a bit testy at times.

What browser are you using? Wondering if it is just a wonky thing on your computer....do you have a couple browser's available to you (chrome, opera, firefox?) If not, don't get them on my account (although you can do worse than changing to chrome or opera :) )

You can do some test comments on this: http://strolen.com/viewing/Graphics_Upload_Test

Outside a couple of specific sites I view in IE (work related) and Firefox (video streaming) I do everything in Chrome.

It seems to be very intermittent. I can make quite a few comments without any problems.

The next time it happens I will try using the developer tools to take a snapshot of the HTML and JavaScript console and post it here.

Same problem, same sub.  In my case, it was also a brand new comment on Muro's Earth and Iron story.  Clicking the submit comment button had no effect, so I did it several more times (hence, the triple-posting on the front page).  It also failed to recognize my vote and tally it to the score.

Firefox 13.0.1, running on Ubuntu 10.04

I've made several other comments today, without the problem.

Bwahahahaha, yes preciousss, yes! Just as I planned. Free marketing in the forums! Bwahahahahaha. Who's Ajax?

Actually, I have no idea why that is happening. Cheka had issues too apparently.

Ajax is the ancient Greek god of silent communication between the browser and the server, of course! His invisible spirits watch what you type and then, at the direction of the sacred script, pass these messages on to Ajax himself who solemnly hands them to the robot guardian of the Citadel. They then record these messages upon the sacred script itself so that the reader knows all is well. 8)

It appears that these imps are misbehaving and passing the messages on without writing this down in the sacred script.

You *really* need to brush up on your Greek mythology there, Myst. Sheesh! I don't know where to begin.

    ( :P)

On the flip side, that's a much more awesome description of AJAX than I was going to give.
