Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time right now. Can somebody do a little research for me and confirm that these aren't really Di's work that he/she/it is simply reposting here? I will be write the PM and take the subsequent action but just want a warm fuzzy on the approach I will take on it all and I can't get to these sites from work and will have limited time this evening.

Thanks all!! I hate this crap!

    Greetings Strolen,

I really love what you've done with the place, and I admire your ability to stay on top of things. I regret that I only come to you when I take exception to something. The newest member, Dionysus, has been plagiarizing all of his work. Each of his submissions is a word-for-word copy of a story from another Website. His comment on his submission Transcend is "Another insight into the strange thoughts and ideas that cross my mind. That's all for today. My desire to write has been sated for now." This is clear intent to plagiarize.

I am very deeply sorry to bring this to you, but I am not comfortable with any of the scenarios resulting from confronting Dionysus. Ideally, I would love for Dionysus to be a legitimate, contributing member of the citadel. On most Websites, I would simply site the original link in a comment, but I do not fully understand the culture of the citadel, and I would not want to unleash a mob of angry writers on anyone.

I have found and linked all of the original documents below. Please understand that I do not expect you to do anything, and I would understand if you felt that nothing should be done. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions you might have.

I say move all of the posts in question into challenged status, clicked on the links, and they are from apparently different authors, or this guy makes a point of creating a completely different persona on each site.

I think we have a word thief and should act swiftly. Notify, and in 24 hours nuke all the offending submissions.

We want people and work, but not this sort of dog and pony show.

Not just yes, but hell yes!

Ripping off someone else's hard work and effort is an insult not only to that author, but to all of us at the citadel who put hours, if not days into crafting our quality subs.

I'm happy to do the challenging of the subs myself, and will proceed forth doing so immediately given I have little else to occupy my time this morning.

(I will of course verify each sub is a copy/paste from the other site/author before challenging them)

On a side note, I did notice the guy/gal seemed to be cranking out the subs at an unusually high rate, I guess now I see how that was happening.

It's people like this the hammer of the citadel needs to be dropped on.

(On a side note Strolen don''t feel you have to handle such headaches yourself personally, that is why you have the rest of us admins, to share the load and make your job easier.

    Edit:

Having checked each link before challenging I agree completely with Scras's findings, each sub of Dionysus's is a word for word posting/ plagiarism of a different authors work.

I would say there is virtually zero chance these are the same author under different names given many of them are by different authors on the same site (why register as multiple people on one site?) as well articles written by authors with both male and female names.

All subs have been challenged, with posts  at the bottom of the subs as to why and with links to the original authors works.

May I also suggest a XP reward for whoever originally noticed the ripoff and contacted you? (as thanks for preserving the integrity and quality of the citadel.)  8)

    Further Edit:

Since the challenged subs are quickly disappearing from public view, I created this quick post in the announcements area explaining why to our members:

    http://strolen.com/guild/index.php/topic,5904.msg72589.html#msg72589

This way those who have bookmarked or Favorited some of these subs can still easily find them for future reference and won't be wondering why they vanished unexpectedly from the citadel.

It also serves as a polite future warning to would be copy/paste wizards that the defenders of the citadel will respond to any and all such attempts at plagiarism, and not to try such slippery magics here.

    Final Edit?:

Something else Axle pointed out in a comment, this comment by Di is rather telling as to his intentions and deliberate attempt at passing off  works by others as his own.

    Closing Update:

After posting in my announcement sub and claiming he never said they were his own works (which I responded to by pasting the previous pic here of his comment claiming they were his ideas) he asked to speak to an admin, and upon finding out I was one, promptly left without another word.

I get the feeling he's been suitably embarrassed/humiliated, and won't be returning any time soon to steal credit for others creative efforts.

Regardless, I'm content to be the wolf-bitch-defender of the citadel on this one, and bear the brunt of any ill will/aftermath Di may feel over his public plagiarism exposure and the subsequent challenging of his posts.  (I do have the  Guardian of the Citadel badge, so I might as well live up to expectations.  8) )
