Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#1I feel I should preface this with two facts.
1. I have had a shitty shitty day, and am currently on my second bourbon.
2. looking back at the OOC thread, I've started a lot of games and not finished them. I am not pleased with this. As such, many of those games were spur of the moment creative outbursts. I have been considering on this for a while and I have been messing around with the Old World of Darkness. I want to run a game for more than just my wife.
I have sent a number of personal messages to people who have gamed with me in the past, and are still somewhat present on the site. Once I get a few notifications of either sure, maybe, or I'm washing my hair I will post more details.
on the table:
Vampires: Brujah, Gangrel, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador, and Ventrue
also related: ghouls.
Weres:
Garou - hunters and killers of Gaia
Nuwisha and Kitsune - tricksters and teachers
Gurahl - keepers of the land
Bastet - seekers and keepers of secrets
Corax - messengers
Ratkin - waste disposal, population controllers
Mokole - Gaia's memory, chosen of Sun
Ananasi - architects and planners, spies and assassins
Nagah - Healers
Rokea - stewards of the seas
Shapeshifters or shifters - lesser shapeshifter that can only assume human or animal form, no between or hybrid forms. Also isolated from the Umbra. Can assume multiple animal forms, but to do so they must have either spent a great deal of time around said animal, or killed one and ritually consumed its spirit.
Wraith - Risen corpses, or possessed human victims.
Changeling - i dont know. Open for discussion, but more Raksha from Exalted than Changeling the Dreaming
Mage - lots and lots of words. open to discussion. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#2Pariah pokes the thread
Is this going to be going anywhere? The used book store up the street a ways actually has some old WoD books laying around for cheap. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#3I managed to score a free copy of Werewolf: The Apocalypse for Halloween at DriveThruRPG, so I've got the rules for the Garou at least. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#4This thread is totally legit, thus far most everything has been handled through PMs
What sort of books they got??? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#5So. How many guys do we have on board? So far, I like what I see ^_^ -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#6Valadaars in too, so I'm happy with what I've got here.
Also looks like we are going to be doing more magic, no vampires, and thats alright -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#7So. What now? DO I need to pick up a source book for my char, or? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#8Got a little behind on schedule, apologies.
If you don't have a core book that's fine, I can help fill in the blanks around what can be found on the internet.
as for characters we have:
A Child of Gaia werewolf
a Khan mystic
and
an Entropic Mage -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#9Are we playing old WoD or new WoD? -

Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#11Just popping in to let all my players know that the game is still going to happen, it's not gone to development hell.
I've been caught up in doing other things, (drinking was involved this weekend) but plan on getting things rolling soon -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#12Game is go. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#13Sorry, all. Just returned from a Silvester in the hills, had no net. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#14What do I need to do, what do you guys need?
I'm not letting this one die
-
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#15Was at a congress (no time), contemplating what to do in-game, actually. No idea so far. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#16I personally need something to react against - right now it seems more in your court. I do not know how far I can go with starting events.
Given 0 experience with the system, I'd like someone else to go first :)
-
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#17What valadaar said. I responded to the character prequel in IM, but wasn't really sure where to go from there. A little more guidance would be nice, as I too have no experience in this system yet. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#18Heading out of town in about an hour, not quite expected. Will respond in depth Monday.
Thanks for being patient with me guys -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#19So... what are we going to do? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#20Character intros are the next step, everyone has a lead for getting to Vixenburg and the Lake Croatan area. Let us all know what you look like, and get a general idea of what your character is beyond the stats on the sheet (likes, dislikes, etc)
I wanted to write something involved but at the moment, I'm swamped. There has been a new round of honeydoo chores that have popped up, and I've been under a lot of stress.
I do apologize, but simply dumping the game and saying better luck next time is not an option. This game is just getting off to a rocky start -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#21Aleksandr Anatoljevic Belgorov
Appearance:
A large muscular man pushing forty, with a full beard and unruly black hair.
Slightly slanted blue eyes.
Mixed Caucasian - central Asian descent.
Scars from various fights.
Appears 'unhewn' but tidy. Prefers woodsman's clothing, or turtleneck and jacket while in civilization. Rarely does he don a suit - though the contrast between his bulk and a cultured attire makes him stand out.
While schooled in English, amongst other languages, he has a marked Russian accent.
Personality:
Positively friendly and social, though direct. Self-assured, energetic, pro-active. Loves life with its highs and lows. His coat of civilization is very thin, though, and adopted and cast off at will. While he has a personal sense of honor, consisting mainly of loyalty, keeping his word and taking responsibility for his actions, he will take whatever action he deems necessary, disregarding mercy and other such trappings if necessary.
Aleksandr is very passionate for the cause of a Motherland for Gaia's children, and surprisingly open-minded when it comes to dealing with other supernaturals.
His emotions are large and fierce; when he loves, he does so with all his being, when he hates, it's not a little thing either.
Likes:
Hearty cuisine (meat, potatoes). Practical things, especially when they are well made. Interesting spirits, whether for discussions, tests of mettle or affairs. Honest laborious down-to-earth people.
Dislikes: Decadence, wastefulness, stupidity, parasites of all kinds.
Am I doing this right? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#22I'm planning on using this channel for the OOC communications.
I want to post initiative order for combat
Aleks - 6
Terance - 6
Fomori Joe - 5
Dossta, can you shoot me a character sheet? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#23Layout of the Ready'Roll:
The building is a large rectangle, wider than it is deep. There is a single door, offset to the left side of the building front. The cashier island is directly in the middle of the store, and butts up against the rear of the main room. If you go right when you come in you'll find the common seating area, a collection of formica topped orange booths, the coffee stand, and the newspaper rack. To the left of the cashier station is the store proper, two rows of shelves, with displays and goods piled up in the corners and around the periphery. Cold case coolers line the left and rear walls, and the restrooms are tucked into the corner. Stepping towards the bathrooms reveals five doors, two are locked, and lead to the cold case coolers. Men to the left, women to the right, and finally an exit to the rear of the building. From the cashiers island to the exit is approximately 30 feet.
Tried to find a floorplan of a gas station, and talk about search overload -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#24If the game is waiting on my post, sorry. I'm still waiting for a reply from Scras about my char's next action. Not really sure where I come in the initiative order, either, so I feel it's best to wait until it's sorted out. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#25I fell into the same devious trap; just post away. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#26Getting ready for vacation Gentlemen, the wife and I are heading down to the swamp for some Mardi Gras and beads for about a week. Been getting stuff around the house taken care of, and today has been our rescheduled Valentines Day.

Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#27Order of Initiative:
Order is reverse, the fomori is the slowest so you all know what it is going to do and can react, Aleks is the fastest.
Fomori NPC (declared projectile attack against Ian)
Ian
Terance
Aleks -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#28We don't have the results of the last round of actions, yet. Hence, we can't really post a second round of actions. Because that depends on the first. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#29I'm going to do a quick and dirty end of round report, Ian's shots hit the fomor, but any damage they did was either regenerated, or they only did cosmetic damage. I will be honest, this is a tougher than usual fomori and it's going to take everyone working together, or someone getting a real strange idea I haven't anticipated to take it down quickly.
Echo: Aleks is on the back of the Fomor, it is slimy to the touch so grappling is going to be difficult.
Dossta: If you shoot again the next round, you will be firing into close combat so there is a chance you will hit the kitty
Val: I PM'ed you, so if you'd like to have some MonsterQuest/Animal control gear, I'd let you use an asspull, that's one of the fun things about being a mage, and that's the real magic. (Correspondence 2, matter 2 - carry big things in small places) -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#30Vacation is over and I've recovered from my 6 days of Mardi Gras. Things back on the homestead are back to normal and to boot my repaired PS3 arrived Saturday (3rd times a charm) so after 3 months sans games I have that back too.
That being said, I am ready to get the game back on track in the next day or so. Is everyone still on board?
I have also been toying with the idea of boosting everyone's characters up a bit, so we can use some of the intermediate level stuff (gifts, spheres, etc) -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#31Well, if you boost, we'll need a little more leading-by-the-hand (paw), because I never actually played Werewolf...
(truth be said, I did wonder why a fledgling Khan pup like me is sent off to battle a dragon, but hey) -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#32I'm in the same boat, honestly. Haven't played Werewolf before so boosting might not be the best idea yet.
A few notes about the last two rounds:
1. Ian threw his gun to Val's char in the round before last, so he won't be firing into combat any time soon
2. Aleks is around the back of the thing? I thought he came through the window and was trying to get between Ian and the monster. Please clarify.
3. Ian had pulled out a hunting knife before he decided to transform. What happens to the knife when he's through with the transformation, and does it make sense to use anymore? Is his attack with his natural weapons greater? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#33*pokes thread*
Is the game still live? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#34It is, just more RL interfering. Also, some minor technical issues, my space bar doesn't work very well (lol)
Tomorrow morning I am planning to make a pot of coffee and addressing some game issues.
So if we need to do a Q&A lets do that.
Table is open for discussion -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#35screw it, nevermind -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#36Screw what?
(we do have IRL too, Scras :) )
Well, to kick off the QA:
*narrative privileges - to what extent can players narrate things outside their own actions? Can we narrate interactions with minor NPCs on our own, for example?
*length of "round" - how long is a post (in time) ? Do we have to post each round separately?
*approval of minor actions - when do we have to await GM confirmation? FOr each minor action? For major ones? For a cluster of major and minor actions?
RP-wise:
*dealing with spirits - how does it work? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#371. Narrative Privileges: pretty loose, minor and background npcs are fair game for limited actions and interaction. Rule of thumb, if they only get a description (hot girl looks like a cheerleader) they are minor NPCs, but if the NPC is named, such as Jana, she looks hot, like she used to be a cheerleader is a regular NPC and the usual limits.
2. Length of Round: combat, 5-10 seconds. outside of combat, minutes rather than seconds
3. Minor Actions-no prob, basic actions, no prob. Something complicated, or a cluster of actions would require GM approval
4. Dealing with Spirits: If you are bonded to a spirit, you are generally aware of them, and can communicate with them when they are close and you are generally aware of their presence or absence. Unless others have the ability to perceive spirits, your attending spirit remains invisible and undetectable to them. -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#38So - I have 4 pts in the background that gives me a spirit ally. Snegurochka, a winter spirit in this case.
How does the communication and interaction work?
"Yo babe, make me a sammich!" and she makes me a sandwich?
"Thine is the glory of winter, bestow a sammich upon thy unworthy supplicant!" and you may get a sandwich.
"Hurr, durr, herpenderpen, ia ia winter ftaghn... damn, I sure hope she understands I could use a sammich!" and you may get a sandwich or not, or you may be turned into one, or you may be transported to the Deep Umbra of Sammich...
or something entirely different? -
Re: Scras's Renaissance of Darkness
#39You, sir, just made my day. Have a cookie. -

Well I would suppose that would depend on the spirit itself. It Sneg is a progressive spirit, it might just make you a sammich. On the other hand, if Sneg is a hoary old spirit, it might demand certain offerings to be made with a humble undeserving request, and asking for a sandwich might get your food frozen for the next week, a lesson in humility. So, tell me what sort of spirit is Sneg?
