Posting links to download/pirate copyrighted material?
#1I noticed today in a thread Echo posted a link to download Gurps High tech as a series of .tif images: http://strolen.com/guild/index.php?topic=5727.new;topicseen#new
While I don't have anything against such copies of game material, (I have gigs and gigs of downloaded books on .pdf.) I thought it would be prudent to check and see if it's permissible to publicly post such links in our forums before speaking to Echo about it. (I don't want to see the citadel or any of its members get into legal trouble with stuff like that.)
On a side note, a place for everyone easily review the TOS of the forums might be a good idea as well. -

#2Extreme prejudice. Should have been a PM. -
Re: Posting links to download/pirate copyrighted material?
#3Applies for me as well then. I posted a couple of CoC tables in a hidden thread, visible to the Bleak Wood players only.
It is a borderline thing I guess. The tables are there for players to use, and the distance apart makes any other means than electronic distribution hard. If the tables / images are hidden from plain view I feel that it would be within reason, but you know lawyers. Common sense ain't their thing. :) -

#4As far as I'm concerned sharing requisite materials to run your game should be within legal boundaries given most of the game books let you photocopy some of the tables and stuff for your players anyway. Putting up an entire book or series of books however would be another matter entirely... (publically anyway, over PM, well, that's all good imho  )
Also, if it's a private thread only a select few can see the chances of it being spotted/spidered by someone who would care enough to report it are pretty much nil. -

#5As long as it isn't spiderable, I actually don't care. Just don't want the site hit with something dumb like a wide open link since it is hosted in the US.
Someone save me if you saw what I have downloaded. ;)
