  1. Possible to move comments from a sub into a forum thread?

    #1
I recently started a unintentionally lengthy  discussion with RGTraynor about votes on subs on one of my more recent subs, (http://strolen.com/viewing/The_Philadelphia_Shipyards )
and am starting to find the discussion is becoming as long as the sub itself. (Seems I poked a sleeping mongrel)

Because of this and not wishing for the discussion to overshadow my sub I was wondering if it would be possible to move all of the back and forth comments by RGTraynor and myself to a forum thread and just stick a link on my sub to it?

(I could take it to PM but I think the discussion has merit and would benefit from the participation of other Strolenites.)

I've checked but don't see any admin tools for moving/deleting comments so figured I'd inquire here about the possibility.

    Not that I know of.

But you can do the old-fashioned Cut&Paste thing and paste the text into a forum post, then delete the offending comments. (Forewarning is always a good idea, too.)

Thanks, one small question, where the button to delete the comments? (I can delete my own just fine, but not others.)

Lower left corner of a comment, there's an Edit link and there should be also a red cross image for deleting stuff.

If it isn't, something's wrong. Hit Strolen to fix it or delete them. :)

Thanks, aside from my own subs, such a link isn't appearing, guess it's a small bug in the site.

There are admin/mod type thing and then there are super admins that have full control over the Citadel as well as the forum. Not sure which category I put you in so I think it is probably functioning as advertised.

I had intended on spending some time and doing the move of all that stuff (which would have had to be a copy paste no matter what as mentioned)  but got sidetracked by RL. Zipping in for a few quick replies but doubt I will get much done.

    Sorry!

Thanks for moving it over, however you forgot to delete the discussion posts off of the Shipyards sub. (Could someone please do this so as to unclutter it? thanks.)

Yeah, I left them as I have some discomfort about deleting other's comments. Not sure how RG would take it so left it for now but it is marked. Would normally delete it after it all settled down and was forgotten as then it wouldn't cause any stir if either party disagreed with the removal of them.

Path of least resistant and avoid confrontation and all that.

Ah didn't see this before commenting elsewhere, I see you point, perhaps removing them and leaving a comment that they have been moved to thread X (with a link) would work since it's not censorship, merely relocation?

(Also easier when people are voting on subs to get an accurate vote without that mess of comments, rather then having anyone's opinions colored by the discussion, especially when Traynor has subs in the quest as well and I would prefer our subs all stand on their own individual merit, not colored by the related discussion.)

It won't bias them. When it comes to voting nobody cares about the comments, it is all about measuring the subs against each other and remembering why you voted what for each.
