Comments Tab vs Recentl Citadel Activity

1. Comments Tab vs Recentl Citadel Activity

   #1

Just something I noted and wanted to see if anyone cared about/had other ideas for.

We have a Comments tab on the main page page that, when clicked, shows the 6 most recently commented on submissions. This used to serve a purpose, but I believe it was made unnecessary by the Recent Citadel Activity section just a short scroll down the page (which shows 8 subs and is easier to access while still browsing the Recent Submissions). To me, this makes the Comments tab useless.

   Proposed fixes:

The tabbed browsing seems like it is intended to show 6 subs of the category chosen, except for Golden which shows 5, and the Author's tab which shows 20 (without description, but what author needs to read their own descriptions?). I like this method, but propose a change to the Comments tab - Make the actual comments viewable.

Maybe something like up to the 3 most recent comments on each (of 6 or 5) recently commented on submissions?

Also, as far as browsing recent additions, I love this page: http://strolen.com/recent
Which also serves the purpose of showing where the recent comments have gone, but accomplishes much more than that in a less-pretty more-informative way. This and the Recent Citadel Activity tabs should remain the same... for the most part.

I may be alone on this issue, but I think the Recent Citadel Activity should include more information and more details. So far, All I've seen it do is show the most recent people to comment and/or vote, and the submission this was on, but not when 2 users (or more) commented and/or voted on the same submission. Trival detail, but i think the Recent Citadel Activity box could also include a number of other message; some examples:

New Members, New Member's First Post, keep a back log of people who leveled up and what date that was, new Golden submissions added, "Ideas" (formerly scroll entries) should have a separate message than commented, I'm sure there are tons of fun facts we can record here.

Speaking of recording data, can we have an "Advanced" Recent Activity page with history going back a bit further than 8 updates?

Darn, now I'm getting back into the old days style of complicated information barrages, but that was one of the things that i loved about the early citadel and kept me coming back. I could look at a page and browse through a lot of information at one time.

I hope you got some ideas from this, I'm going to shut up now.

It was fairly easy to throw a single comment up there but a bit more complicated to do more per sub. Just wanted to get it started while I had some time. Formatting is just thrown in there but may come up with something.

I started the Citadel XP tracker today. Slowly getting it through most things but have a bit to go with it. It will keep a running tally of each transaction that messes with XP...which basically means most anything that happens.

It will be a work in progress but you can already see it in action on the frontpage. It will be more detailed on what happened, who did it, and where you can go to see it. I won't show XP on it right not but plan to put another XP log type thing in each person's Citadel Profile so you can see where XP came from but not necessarily who gave it to you. I don't want to start anything when you can guess XP from votes and such but also want to see my XP grow. Will have to find a balance there over time and see how we want to use it.

It will also be used to track mini-quests, achievements and hopefully the guild challenges that we/I have been wanting for a looooong time.

Slapped up some of the tracking information on the profile pages. Split it up a little. Still trying to figure out to show the full monty and how that would be appropriate. Might end up being a la and google pics where you scroll to the bottom and the next set auto loads up. Future thing when I have more time. I just wanted to fiddle a little bit with something and this is the post that came to my attention. Still some good suggestions that I am chewing on as well....
