#1And when I try to get to anything else I get this
The webpage cannot be found
HTTP 404
Most likely causes:
•There might be a typing error in the address.
•If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.
What you can try:
Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page.
Go to and look for the information you want.

#2This was happening for several hours yesterday (morning, early afternoon?) to me too. My guess would be a bad update to a PHP script or to the .htaccess file. Someone managed to fix it since then, but I'm still seeing the PHP errors on the Monster Quest homepage:

#9Same on my end. I'll try to keep checking every hour or so just in case they come back up spontaneously and a timestamp would be helpful in debugging, but if it's an .htaccess problem then we'll have to wait until someone with access to the server restores it. -

#11Main site seems to be working again. Forums are still creepy sterile blue... Will be avoiding for now.

#13Ahh. Shouldn't be able to get to www.strolen.com. Have to update the htaccess in a bit again. Will have to try and find the old version. Using a spare. -

Trying one more thing then I am paying somebody to fix it. It is a server issue that keeps cropping back up and I am at my last bit of knowledge trying to figure it out.
Apologies if/when it goes down again tomorrow. If it does will pay for some tech support.

#24Suspect is the right answer. I was being evasive in my earlier post. There is a hole somewhere which is being exploited. The htaccess is deleted in order to access a folder that is maliciously uploaded. Nothing that anybody here can get too. If you have seen facebook hacks where they redirect you to a "hidden video" that is what it is. So it is being linked to from outside sites. No way you would stumble upon it from strolen.com.
So I remove files, upload htaccess, change passwords and update everything and they still have access. Hired a third party to review/secure/optimize and it is being worked as I type.
If you notice the site being faster, I will give them all the kudos. Will let you know what their final verdict is. -

#26Ouch! That sucks. We've had to clean up similar incidents where I work, thanks to IIS and poor account management; fortunately it has been some time since then as we have become a lot more aggressive about such things. -

Hm. A question, if I may? Was it indeed a video? Or something more malicious? Could we get information on the nature of the content? It would be an interesting bit to put in The Grand Strolenati Puzzle, Trivia and Eclectic Nonsense Manuscript.

If you visited the page it asked you to load up trojans...I mean install a required plugin for the page to work. :)
Will find some details about it later (just going to work now) and post them. Found it probably wasn't a server hack so perhaps an exploit in some of the canned code I use. They are still slowly chipping away at the server. -

#29Now some memory issues with what is loaded. Doing a backup, reinstall OS, restore websites and start from scratch.
Will give a warning. -
