Feel free to experiment there and we will see how we prefer to do it.

Right now you can only edit your own and there is no change in XP tracking.

Trying to decide if we should allow anybody to edit anything. If not, there will have to be a sort order for those to adjust location of added ideas.

If we can edit everything, have to figure out a way to track an editor who doesn't put in their own idea and how they will get XP.

In work, need suggestions on how we should handle this.

Added list of Wiki authors after submissions. Just a generic list without identifying what they actually wrote.

    Baby steps.

Ignore me while I talk this out. Scrolls are not going to work. Too many modifications needed. Woke up this morning with a solution that uses the current collaboration with some enhancements that will improve/fix the collaborations as well.

Still have collaboration and wiki as 2 separate type submissions. Will still be able to identify individual authors on non-wiki subs.

-Will allow anybody to edit entire submission Can make it a certain level. What level?
-Initially any change is permanent. May eventually adopt the wiki way to save edits but not right away and probably not for quite awhile.
-Author shown will be generic as it is now (The Strolenati. We can change that to whatever though)
-Will still list all authors that did any edits to wiki sub at end of submission
-Wiki posts will be visible on Author's Profile
-Collaborative posts will gain visibility on Author's Profile as well
-All authors that edit the wiki sub will gain the initial 5xp submission XP plus any voting credits afterwards (Is that fair and/or will it promote activity on the wiki subs?

Doing it this way I will use the current collaboration code in order to determine xp and vote xp much more easily. I will have to create another database table to hold the collaboration to submission correlation in order to make it easier to identify authors for the wiki and collab subs. Right now I parse the collaboration field every time to figure out who is an author. That makes it very labor intensive to add it to the profile (Would have to review every single sub and parse every collab field in order to find subs that particular author was involved in. With the table it is a simple author_id lookup.)

The only real negative is that the wiki will not hold versioning and anybody (of appropriate level) will have free reign with the entire submission. With the current group of authors I see absolutely no issue with that. If we continue to grow then I will figure out a way to save a version of each but I think we have a little time.

I'd say level 3 or 4, that way the person had at least put up a few submissions and knows what the standards are, and it helps prevent another Dark Lord coming along and messing with all the the wiki's without us getting at least some heads up that it'll be coming.

Haven't limited levels yet or messed with XP but I think anybody can edit it and they should be tracked.

I am tracking every edit and the timestamp. Thinking to show the author and when they last updated and sort of have a running tally on the side. So, basically, if I edit it 14 times in a row, it will show my name 14 times and the time I edited each time. Not sure that is ideal but thought tracking each edit instead of just the latest made a little more sense. ?

Still working on it but would love some more test edits to manipulate. The Ideas thing is scrapped, it is all about editing the entire submission each time now.

lil' glitch. It added my name to the author list each time i changed it... is that good or bad? Ithink there should be a genernal author list, and a last edit by author list somewhere out of the way. I like what you have so far though. keep going!

EDIT: I think this created a bug, see my new thread for details -

For now that is as designed. Added the time to make it more obvious what is happening. Still no XP is working on it yet.

Have it set up now to get Co-author credit on every author page.

    Question
Would you rather the co-authors have a separate section under a Co-Author type heading or just mix them in with everything else. For me, it is TONS easier to just have a separate section.
  8. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

You mean not related to the wiki setup, but our existing collaborative subs? I think a separate section would be best for those, it would be nice to see what the other helped work on, but weren't completely his ideas. Go for separate. Unless you meant something else...

EDIT: even if you do mean the wiki, separate seems best.

Yeah, was rushed and was very unclear.

This would be under the profile for the actual co-author thing, not talking wiki. They combine easy in my head because they use the same system now, just utilize the info different. Running out so will try and clarify a little bit more later on what I am working on. Thanks for your help working this Pieh!!

Starting to get lost. The code is starting to twist and turn on me. :)

    - Every wiki edit tracks every person and time of the edit. I included the name and the time of each edit on the right column. I allow only 4 to be shown but the rest can be revealed with a click. This might become large but for now will work for functional purposes. We can figure out a way to make it pretty later.
-All wiki subs that the person edits and all Co-Authored subs are now in each person's profile under "Co-Authored Subs" as one of the accordian choices. This doesn't differentiate between wiki and actual co-author, just subs that were helped on.
-Wiki editing are a level 3 and up privilege. If level < 3 creates the sub as a Wiki they, of course, will still have full rights to edit.

    Todo:
XP is not working at all
    No tracking of edits

Hmmm. That might be all that is not working.

Was there more that you wanted the wiki to do or are we about there?

XP is updated, I am pretty sure. Need somebody to do some vote/hoh/golden tests on it to see if XP goes to Pieh and myself at this point. Should work for anybody else that joins the wiki as well. Made it a normal submission for testing purposes.

A little scared about errors so will be online for the next few hours in the hope that all is well.

OK, screwed up a lot but fixed some. Can anybody see the HoH or Gold buttons on this wiki post?

Manfred helped me get the XP working, just not sure about the rest. Also changed the format of the wiki authors. Show the authors and you can reveal the history. I think that makes more sense.

Still in work but it is working for the most part now. Just need some HoH and Golden ops checks to see if all wiki authors get the XP for it....just need to figure out why the buttons aren't showing up.
  13. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #13
I can't see the HoH or Gold button on the wiki, others?
  14. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #14
I cannot see it, either. Maybe because we contributed?
  15. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #15
I can also not see the edit button anymore, I looked and saw that I didn't see it.

I suspect someone *cough Valadaar! cough cough Strolen? cough* changed the status on it to something non-agreeable.
  16. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #16
Not seeing the edit button is a good clue to the bug. Will nip it tonight. I am sure it is the same reason for the HoH and Golden.

Did a manual reset of the cron job till I reinstitute it tonight.

    Fun, fun.
  17. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #17
HoH and Gold. I have the 10 day grace period before you are able to do that.

So....of course we can't do that yet.
  18. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #18
I think I fixed the edit button on the wiki post. Have to be level 3 to edit though still.
  19. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    I don't think you did...'

    A PHP Error was encountered

    Severity: Notice

    Message: Undefined variable: wiki

    Filename: viewing/vsub.php

    Line Number: 196

I see that under: "Why so many sections??? Goober Goober goober!"
And I think that should be an edit button?
  20. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #20
Also, New link has surfaced on everyone's posts. There is now a visible Edit button that brings you back to the page you were on, seemingly. But I still see the error on the wiki one, and can edit my own posts just fine.
  21. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #21
Because I am king of the world, I don't see these links. Can you quote around what the link says and give me general whereabouts that you see it.

Is the error still there. I did some edits yesterday without mentioning it and am curious if this is still an issue.

    Thanks!!

PS: Gave you 15XP for all your help with bug tracking lately!
  22. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

Not sure but I think this is working. It is hereby released to the world, officially. I am sure there will be some bugs and we will nab them as we come to them. Feature requests or changes to the way the wiki is shown/handled will always be appreciated. It is new and will probably take some breaking in.

    Ongoing Issues:
-Main Author on browsing will be The Strolenati BUT the initial submitter won't be able to vote AND you won't be able to look up "The Strolenati" author. I will make a wiki quick link to all the wiki subs though.
-The main author cannot vote BUT all other wiki authors can vote. So if I edit the wiki I can vote a 5 on it and give myself that XP and the high vote. Not sure that bothers me right now.
-Of course, no versioning. An edit on the wiki is permanent and irreversible.

Might have to tie together a FAQ on it in the forum for wikis.
  23. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

How are we doing on this one?
  24. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #24
I think a few were created, but not sure if anyone is doing anything wiki-like with them yet.
  25. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #25
Anyone have any good ideas for a Strolenati Wiki-Post? We need one!
  26. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #26
I was thinking of posting a 30 Ruins as a Wiki in light of the new quest because:
    a) I don't have the time to write up a full sub anymore
    b) I'm not that good with descriptive writing

I was originally planning on contributing at least one ruin myself before actually posting. However, I don't think that will be happening any time soon so others are welcome to start on this if they like the idea.

I also have another crazy idea which is the list of mundane items (i.e. non combat, mainly utility items) that have some kind of legend(s)/folklore stories surrouding them.
  27. Re: Wiki Type posts - In Work

    #27
LOVE the legendary utility items idea!

Suggestion: Make a counterpart to quests that involve community contributions to a new wiki article. Have XP and prized awarded at the end. Preferably, this runs when quests aren't running, meaning XP and fun year-round.
