More Collaboration Proejects
#1I posted this under the 30 Halfling Gifts submission, but figured it would gain more ground in the forum.
We should try to set up a monthly (weekly? bi-weekly?) collaboration submission just to produce more submissions of this quality and effort.
So, what I'm proposing is this: I don't know with what ease or hardships it could be implemented with, but I know wiki-edit style submissions was a topic in the past. What if we had a custom user for "The Citadel At Large" That allowed a mod to create a main site submission that isn't keyed to one particular author. I'm not sure how xp is divvied among multiple member subs, but I have noticed that they only appear (as far as profiles) under the profile of the original creator. Can we get a separate for "collaborated on" and/on designate projects as Open Citadel, where each user gets bonus xp for material added, but it doesn't put a user on a pedestal for creating the submission. Those have their place, but I'm asking for an equal grounds workshop for the citadel to add to. Yes, i know we can add "ideas" to submissions, but i consider that a rather trivial, possibly misunderstood, and incredibly underused function.
TL;DR? Pieh wants something done, he just isn't sure what it is.
EDIT: Maybe this should be moved to the Strolenati Ideas forum... Oops. -
Re: More Collaboration Proejects
#2Wiki Subs.
Been an oft requested feature and I soft coded the ability but got stuck on how to implement.
Issues I have unresolved in my mind:
Tracking Changes
--Without a huge update, I won't be able to track changes. Therefore if somebody changes something/deletes it/whatever, the older version is gone forever. While that doesn't make me super nervous it does raise some possible issues.
Giving XP
If it is editeable by anybody and I can't track changes it is also difficult to track who edits it and who should share in the XP. There is no real tracking of how much somebody adds/changes really so if I edit and save but do no changes I could possibly be gaining all the XP from the sub now. Others could edit and remove stuff and add other stuff to make it better so I can't just compare word count and be fair. So for these the easiest way would basically just be no XP.
Other thoughts on how to do this.
Make the ideas that are added less obvious in their separation. So you would still add an idea but that idea would be seamless as simply a new paragraph in the submission. No ability to vote or comment on the idea but the users would share in the overall submission voting XP as it is tracked by the idea system. Those that join late would only get additionaly xp after their inputs. They would still get the initial inputting XP for putting in the idea.
The initial sub would get a Strolenati or something author title. I like that idea. My intention was to make a way for collaboration subs to get even credit on the author pages and such and probably need a way to show on the browsing pages to not show only the submitting author's name as you say. Also to show up in each author's profile and post count. Will double check that stuff.
The idea order can be sortable, I will develop something that will allow that so that an idea can be added at any point in the submission. This order will have to be manually edited but not horribly difficult to make work.
Now, we can still allow each of these ideas to be edited by anybody else if you wish but nobody would get XP for editing stuff, only for adding something.
At the end of the submission I could just have a small text laundry list of contributors instead of having them inline.
Lots of ideas floating now and the timing is good for me to work on some small improvements to get us towards this. The achievements is stalled until I can update the forum so that is about a week or so. Will start on this today!
Thanks for the remotivator on this. I was flailing around a little being lazy as I am stuck in a hotel for quite awhile while I house hunt.
