Siren glanced up and noticed the girl from yesterday. She smiled welcomingly at the girl. "Hello! Come to lend a hand? As soon as this place gets clean, I can start on breakfast." Siren stepped forward and almost slipped on something. She grabbed the edge of the sink to regain her balance, but then immediately pulled her hand as she felt something sticky and slimy on her hand. Siren pursed her lips and nodded, as if trying to reassure herself that situation wasn't that bad. But then, realizing how this must look to the girl, she giggled. "I'm sorry. I don't believe I know your name."

Jack Through the wooden skull from off the ravens nest and started to work on another one he coulden't belive how long the breakfast was taking at least the last cheif got it sloped together he thought. Not good food but food none the less. Jack checked the flask siting next to him it was full of rum, Jack smiled and took a nip at it and took out his stelascope (at least i think thats the looking device for one eye) and peered out over the ocean he saw a few dolphins and a large somthing or other floating underwater but nothing to be alarmed by he sighed and returened to whiteling the skull.

OOC: No it's not. Bounty Hunter, make a character and a story for yourself, not just "I'd like to join your crew". Savvy? Thank you.

"I'm Jenna Talaten. Damn, this place is a mess. I'd be afraid to eat anything from here lest it try to fight back." She looked inside a large container and immediately wished she hadn't. "I suggest we just toss this one overboard."

Siren nodded at Jenna's suggestion. There was no telling what was in that pot. "Hmm. Yeah! Could you start with the dishes? I'll mop!"

Siren set about her task of filling the mop bucket with water. Thankfully, the kitchen was small. "I was in complete shock after my Captain took me in and made me the cook. The galley on his ship was much worst than this! And I hadn't my sea legs then!" She laughed at the memory. "But I made the best salmagundi ever! Although, sometimes, we ran out of food while at sea, and things got tough. But I always found something, be it rats or dolphins. Life at sea could be hard sometimes."

While it didn't take long to clean the floor, it did take four buckets of water. Siren stretched, glad the floor was clean. She glanced at Jenna and grinned. "But it was rare that we ate rats. For breakfast, I'll make oatmeal - with a dash of cinnamon, you can't go wrong!"

Siren smiled. She suspected that Jenna might be suspicious of her. Well, anybody with common sense would be suspicious. No one demands to come aboard a pirate ship. Well, what was done was done. She decided that for now, she would just enjoy herself and try to get along with everyone.

Jenna finished cleaning up, then took the large pot to toss it overboard. One of the pirates stopped her, and she explained that if she left the pot open, no one would have to worry about rats anymore. Or crew. He declined to look inside.

Captain Penguin moved among the crewmen who were still sleeping abovedecks, shouting in their ears and slapping their heads. "C'mon, yeh' layabout fetchers! Yeh' bunch 'o' scum-suckin' pig-brains!" he shouted, moving to the wheel of the ship and kicking the ship's bell six times, the noise chiming over the sleepy island town. Crewmembers ran through the boat saying "We shove off in two hours."

Two hours later, as they sailed off under a warm tropical breeze, a collection of greasy pirates gathered on the shore of the island behind them bidding them farewell.

On that very next day jack was relived of the nest and sent to the cannons. he took a seat on the nearest cannon and began telling a tail of a fine battle to all the new pirates trying to make them more loyal to the captain and make them get fire in there bellys. After telling the story jack sat in a chair and playing dice with an old freind "rotgut."

Jenna finished helping Siren, and went to go look at the captain's maps. She passed Jack, who was playing dice with another crewman. She watched them for a moment, then went on to get the maps. She pulled her spectacles out of her pocket, grimacing at the cracked lens. She'd have to get that replaced eventally. It took her a while, but she found where the captain had stored the rolled up maps. She looked at one for about a minute, then rolled it back up and went to go find Captain Penguin. "Um, excuse me, Cap, but did you know that your maps appear to have been drawn by a drunken chimpanzee?"
  13. Nautical Business

"Eh? Drunken chimpanzee? Yeh' been to Nyambe, lass? Ne'rmind tha'. What deh'yer' mean 'drawn by drunken chimpanzees?'" the penguin said scratching his feathers. "I bought those maps from a master mapmaker what was polishin' th' bar in Betterdock...Oh...Yarr...I been had."

Jenna laughed. "Don't worry, captain. My grandfather was a ship's navigator, and I've got copies of most of these maps. Good and reasonably accurate copies, even. I'll be happy to lend them to you."

Siren had just finished serving the men on the ship. She was tired, but noticed she had three plates left. She tried to force her brain to think, but she was so tired, it was impossible. Siren then figured that if anyone was hungry, they'd find their food in the kitchen. Grabbing a bowl of oatmeal, Siren left the kitchen, enjoying the fresh air and cool, sea breeze. As she was walking, she happened to notice Jack.

"Hey there," Siren called, casting Jack a friendly smile. "Would you care for a bowl of oatmeal? I made it special."

The barrel rocked slightly. the lid creeked & finally opened. A pair of sky blue eyes peered around the now abandoned kitchen. Making sure the voices he had heard had left, the ragged boy silently climbed out the barrel. Looking around again he hurried over to where a bowl or two of oatmeal had been left. Gobbling it down greedily the child didn't notice how close his elbow was to the bowl on the right. as he turned the metal bowl fell onto the floor with an earsplitting 'CLANG' Making the young Elf's ears ring. He stared at thye spilled porridge in shock, knowing that there was no-one he hadn't been heard.

The captain jumped and looked toward the stairs which led into the cabin. "What were that?!" he said, hand on one of his sabers.

(OOC: Umbra is no more? Ah well...)

The man and turned, and Siren realized it wasn't Jack after all. "Sorry. Have some?" she asked, offering the pirate her special cooked oatmeal. The man grinned and nearly snatched the bowl from her hand.

"Many thanks," the man mumbled between spoonful. Siren smiled, glad to see her cooking so well-recieved. But idly, she wondered if the regular cook was ever going to wake up.

Siren was about to walk off, but paused mid-step. She could have sworn she'd heard something fall. Shrugging it off, she was about to head to the Captain's quarters, but stopped. Siren cursed her curiousity and turned back around to investigate.

Jenna frowned, and followed the captain towards the galley. She quickly outpaced him. She reached the door and peered inside. At first, she thought that she wasn't seeing the fellow properly, and adjusted her spectacles. Then she realized it was a boy, and one who looked rather worse for wear. In fact, he rather looked like a stowaway. "Bother."

The captain burst past Jenna, swiping with his saber, which was made of strange, bluish steel. "Where! Where be th' monster! Where are the nasty beast?!" he shouted, smacking into the boy.

Jenna sighed. Well, at least it would be eventful, hanging out with pirates. "Captain, unless it's a shapeshifter, it's not a monster. Unless you define monster as "small boy."

The boy quickly scrambled back to his feet & brushed himself off (for what it was worth.) He looked from one face to another jittery. "I..I..I'm sorry sir..ma'am...I..I..I..was just...just..." he stopped.
'stealing some food' wouldn't have been a wise choice of words. He chewed his lip & stared at the floor for a few mintues before looking back up.
"...If I had asked you would've said 'No'. & I'd have never gotten away..." He grew quiet again.
"I thought that if I kept quiet you wouldn't even have known I'm here."
He stared at the two of them fearfull, awaiting what his sentance would turn out to be.

The penguin awkwardly rose from the floor. He stood for several minutes as if in a trance, staring into the stowaway's face. He then slowly turned and walked zombie-like up the stairs to the deck of the ship. Then, startlingly, he called out:

"BOYS! WE GOT A STOWAWAY! PREPARE THE PLANK!"

He grinned and winked in Jenna's direction, then sidled up to her, whispering "Don't worry, lass. We'll be gentle on th' boy."
  25. Nautical Business

Siren heard the Captain's yell for the men to prepare the plank. She took off at a run, nearly colliding into Jenna. She took a look at the boy, who'd obviously been enjoying the left over food. Siren quirked an eyebrow. "Oh dear. You're going to walk the plank. This will be fun! Oops.. I mean horrible. This is horrible!" Siren frowned, looking mighty concerned. "Don't worry, little one. It'll be okay."

The boy was obviously horrified by his current predicament. He shook his head vigorously.
"No sir! Please! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to stowaway!! Please!! I'll...I'll...I'll try to make it up!! Just please sir!"
He was shaking like a leaf

Jenna glanced at the captain and winked back. "Well, maybe we're being a little too hasty, Cap. Surely there's something on board he can do to make up for it." She looked at how skinny the boy was. She turned her back to the boy and whispered to the Captain, "D'you think he could help Siren in the galley? She could probably use the help, and he could damn sure use the food."
  28. Nautical Business

The boy nodded enthusiastically. "Yes sir! I'd do anything! Just please sir! Don't throw me over board!"

The penguin pinched the boy's arm. "Arr...Makes a bit 'o' sense...After all, he be too bony teh' gut, an' too gristly teh' roast...No good fer' eatin', and th' lasses seem opposed teh' dunkin' yeh'..."
    He turned to the stairs.
"AYE, LADS, PUT AWAY THE PLANK! WE BE KEEPIN' 'IM! AN' NOT FER' EATIN', YEH' SAVVY!?" he shouted.
A resounding whine of dissapointment floated in from the deck.

The boy sagged with relief. "Thank you very much sir. I'd be happy to help!"
He turned & smiled at Siren & Jenna. He had a pleasent smile, as if he used it often.
    "My name's Corin."
