State of the Citadel - stumbleupon.com dissected
#1So, after discovering the huge impact that stumbleupon had upon this site, I took it upon myself to perform a little experiment.
Some six days ago I created a review of Murometz submission, the Turgid Sands of Nesseraum, a sub I must admit I had a major role in creating.
Analyzing the data from the 4 subs receiving traffic from stumbleupon, I discovered the following:

I don't know what makes some stumbler reviews a hit and other not, I haven't been around the site long enough for that. Looking at the separate entries for the 5 Room Dungeon is a perfect example of how some reviews can become smash hits, and others not, even though they are referencing the same material.
All I know is that stumbleupon generates clicks.
And I like that.
Note: I added the light quest to stumbleupon. Let's see if we get any newcomers via that channel.

#2Very interesting! Your research will pay off I am sure. I already modified the keywords and index page description a bit. -

#3I have studied the results of my stumbleupon adventure.
I have had 0, and I mean Z.E.R.O., clicks on my reviews. Actually I had 20, but they are all mine.
I don't know why some get 13.000 clicks, and I get 0, but my guess is that someone has a huge following, and their recommendations count a lot.
If so, we have been very lucky to get reviewed by some of those users. -

#4Was trying to find your article and stumbled upon this:
http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?p=12792565
Is there any site that functions like RPGHost at one time did? I had hopes for RPGLife but once the spammers started, the owners just gave up and removed the upload link and forgot about the whole thing so the fan-driven content died a pathetic, unloved death.
Is there a site where people can upload their own documents or links or sites or something with descriptions or text, in various categories (adventures, items, etc), similar to Strolen's Citadel (I tried there but they told me "dry" things like charts weren't what they wanted) would be up and downloaded by fans, for and by gamers? I know of RPGLibrary, but it's mostly links and not really of the setup I'm talking about - are there any sites similar to what I'm talking about?
I need to redig out those netbooks (they are there in a mass single page) and maybe come up with something. Not that hard and little to no maintenance on it. Upload file, describe, leave forever.
I still *really* want to make a link directory. Found a good start that I could steal too that is built with codeigniter. Really hope I have all the time I think I will in Italy! -

#5Is there code I can put in the footer to automate the stumbleupon or digg thing? Something a user can click and submit the site automagically? -

#6Hmmm... Will look for it tonight! -

#7Link directory? Don't we already have one of those? :)
