    Award/Achievement System

The idea is to award authors for reaching different goals on the site. The awards will be in the shape of announcements, permanent identifiers, small iconic graphics representing the accomplishment, and any other way we can think of. The award will be on a scale to match the achievement.

The point of these are the "quick and easy" goals that players can achieve and have something to shoot for.  So they know how to "play on the site". They will be tied with email notifications.

    - achievement system: 10 in 10 days, 100 in 100. avg > 4.0 for 10 submissions, most logged in days in a row etc. Need to come up with a list of achievements and how to recognize people for them.  Some of these are going to need to be Human Moderated. I am anti any human moderated requirements. Ditto - I have also some reservations against human moderated tags; with that in mind though, some are not likely to be possible to be automated hence they should be awarded manually (Mechanic, Spam Killer, ...) - OR, they could be automatically awarded, but allowing a grace/checking period... so they could be taken away if undeserved; but as before, it could create disagreements, automated is better
    - will 10 in 10 be replaced by 20 in 20, etc, or will the 'lesser ones' stay? I think they could stay, maybe shown in a smaller font or something.
    - people shouldn't give themselves badges, that should be a sufficient precaution
Don't forget the fun associated with applying the awards to all existing users. (Could be drawn out over some period; or only some will be awarded, if the data is missing/hard to crack.)

Also need 'Award Pages', where the people with the awards are listed, linked from their user profiles and from the documentation/award definitions.

    Brainless brainstorming commences....now:  ((http://stackoverflow.com/badges))

Also key factor in realizing this http://www.escapistmagazine.com/features/issue/196

    Self Achievement
10 in 10 - ideas/comments/votes/submissions need to have 1 per day for the length of time
    20 in 20
    50 in 50
    100 in 100 etc
    Took part in X quests
    XX submissions  (50, 100, 150 etc)
    XX comments
    XX ideas
Yearling and derivatives - for people around for quite some time ('Fixture'?)

Editor - edited a lot of own subs/posts

    Community Achievement
    Voted on X comments/ideas
-- Once a day you could get an "I voted" button. (Implementation question... could be tracked automatically.)
    100 votes in a 100 days.
X comments on "Need Advice" submission - that's something to be supported strongly
Most comments on "Need Advice" (number)

    # first comments or first vote on a sub
I like the Necromancer one. Revived # submissions over 30 days old. 60 days old. 90 6mo 1yr - not sure about the various time periods, maybe just make it over a certain time period (say 6 months+)

Master of Scrolls - created a sub, that attracted X0 ideas/scrolls

    Not auto-awarded
Mechanic - for those contributing to the Citadel code
Beta - for those, that have tested the beta version of the new Citadel
Spam Killer - for users that point out spam posts with consistency (Dozus)
Cleaner (may need a better name) - for those pointing out things like special characters, broken links, typos, etc., keeping the Citadel in shape (Pariah and some others) - Citizen Patrol?

    Congratulatory
    Great Ideas: 20+ upvoted comments
Sub favorited by X people (5+?)

    Earned XX HoH votes  (5+?)

Subs with X000 page views (?1000 views in first three months after submitting or something? Another award at 10000 views total?)

Sub generated XX comments / ideas (20+?)

Sub with X+ 5.0 votes. or is that just Golden? I think Goldens should be nominated - its too easy for some joker to add a spoiler, or for votes to be otherwise gamed.
Or 4.xy average with at least Z votes.
WOOT! - visited page each day for 30 days - swiped right off Stack Overflow

    Goal Orientated
A different name for each posting to a certain freetext - Supers (?), Cyberpunk (Hacker?), western (Gunslinger?), etc - Villain
--Monster Mash, posted over 25 things with the Monster Freetext
Consecutive days logging into the site.
Full House, 5 in each category
Universalist: posts one submission of each category, one idea and one comment.
Authentic Stolenite. 5th level or better. Posted one in each, posted over 100 comments, and over 100 ideas.
Percentage of subs voted on (How much?)
    Genre award - 10 in a category

    To be considered
Voyeur... viewed X00 subs without commenting
"Tumbleweed" - "Asked a question with no answers, no comments, and low views for a week" - something like the opposite of Necromancer, for those producing ignored submissions - could use this, or instead we could create a badge for someone, that jumps on new submissions; and/or submissions that were ignored by others for a while

    Reading Stackoverflow:
    - Civic Duty - use for votes or whatever
    - ?Cleanup - should we reward anyone deleting some of his own work?

    In General
The staged ones will need to replace as they go up a tier. I think most of these can be staged to a degree.Remember that we want an easy access to some of these, low level so noobs can get the rush of getting a badge/ award.  Then the next ones should be notably tougher.

Some Awards should have cheeky names and graphics - see those for Team Fortress 2  for an example of the tone. I'll see if I can come up with a few. I agree. Goofy weirdness I like. Like the leveling system with the nonsensical levels.
