Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#11We are currently in the process of creating 1 (or 2) characters.
dark_dragon is not sure whether he wants to continue playing Cormac, due to Helena. He wants to be IC and chances are the most IC thing to do is to settle down for a while. If he retires Cormac he reserves the right to play him again in the future.
The other character is Echo's. Echo is working on two concepts and will send me both when he is ready.
As for me: I will publish the Rouge Tower primer, quickly followed by a quick summary of the last six months.
Then I will post the opening post. That means the "Bleak Wood Episode 3 - Rouge Tower" thread will have three posts before you guys can start posting.
Looking forward to this.
The game will commence anywhere between within a couple of days, to within 10 days. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC [NEWSFLASH]
#12The Situation:
#1: dark_dragon is back, but we need to do some GM-player work concerning his character.
#2: EchoMirage is "away, but available", meaning that he shouldn't really be posting much, but he will anyways since he is a forum junkie.
#3: Murometz is wrapping up an epic battle in AuR. He really wants to finish that before focusing on Bleak Wood.
All this leads to the following:
Official game launch postponed till Sunday afternoon, CET.
I will probably post the game opening before that, but YOU guys (excepting dark_dragon) have no obligations before Sunday.
/Newsflash over. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#13Sunday afternoon I will (unless I get hit by a meteor or abducted by a tribe of sexy amazons) certainly be available between 20:00 and 23:00 GMT+1 -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#14Okay. Dark Dragon showed up on the radar, then he disappeared again. It seems like we must start without him. Maybe he will join us later. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#15Ping. Ping. Ping.
Dark Dragon on approach vector. Character ETA Saturday 13th March 2010 @ 1800 hours ZULU time.

Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#17Well, that came out a bit darker than I expected. Nevermind. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#18Hmmm... d_d will be autopiloted if he doesn't post by tomorrow evening CET. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#19As for Deedee's "darker than expected" comment, Wesknife would be far lighter if he was a social engineer rather than assassin, steering things so that we dirtsiders are favorably inclined to spacers. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#20WHAT I WANT YOU ALL TO DO:
1. Go to the character creation thread (see my signature for direct link)
2. Click "Modify" on your own character profile (i.e. dark_dragon clicks "Modify" on the forum post for Codename::Wesknife)
3. Mark all of the text in the text area (Click inside the text area, then ctrl+a for windows users)
4. Copy all the text (ctrl + c for windows users)
5. Go to the Bleak Wood: Nightfall forum
6. Create a new thread. Call it and then paste your character info into that thread. (Ctrl + v for windows users)
7. Click "Post" to post your character directly into the forum thread.
8. Make sure your character is UP TO DATE. Kiph, *cough* for instance *cough* has listed a mind probe skill of 10%. Are you really sure he is that low still, Muro? For I WILL use the listed scores and equipment when in doubt. I WILL NOT read through every fricken' post and private message to find your character's relevant score.
So... I guess that 10% would SUCK BAD if you needed your mind probe in a critical fight, or what Kiphster? ;)
I used Kiph as an example. Most of you are guilty of not updating your character. Such failure can cause unneeded character death.

Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#21I got a table top session this weekend. Friday + Saturday.
So, I am dropping off the forum gaming radar for a few days. I will be back sunday-monday.
I do hope some of you have posted by then. This is basically a player interaction sequence. My presence is not needed.
Please don't kill each other in my absence :p -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#22Please read PM. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#23Hey All, I'm sorry for not having posted in time. I've been really busy this last week and a bit.
AG, in the future, If I'm not there to post and stop the flow of the game, don't hesitate to post. (ie: don't wait for me.)
Sorry again for this. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#24By the way, Echo I liked the way you used the Vacuum cleaner! That was just funny. :D -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#25Yeah, it really was! -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#26Awesome post, d_d! -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#27Random thought #1. Our group has no glue. We somehow need to forge some kind of bond or something. We have 2 psychos, the incredibly weird Curie, and d_d in his dual role. Love the game, love the characters, but our "togetherness" makes little sense to me, truth be told. Just a thought, I offer no solutions :P -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#28Glue ideas:
#1: Common goal (See the light and find the faith, or dream up some common desire that your character find irresistible, or join the same organization ("Carnegie" could hire you on as Spacer agents or Kiph could circumcise you and make you join the nomad ranks))
#2: Common plight (Kiph, "Carnegie" AND Curie are hunted by the Gambit, as is Riv (at least when they learn of his jailbreak)
#3: Friendship... Though your craziness makes that hard -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#29Well if the bugger told me that he is a spacer, with actual research labs and tech, I'd be game and work for lodging and food... but we do not know, do we. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#30I kinda hoped you would go for the circumcision!
You do not know him, he doesn't even see you. :) -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#31Sorry Echo, but he can't tell you. He'd be conditioned to kill himself before revealing who he is truly working for. Curie would definitely see something different going on though. The wireless rig he's wearing would be direct to satellite comms. definitely not something that would be common in these parts except for spacers. the contact lens tech alone would be a definite red flag. Very rare, very exclusive.
Ok, I made the ask. I hope we have enough to keep everyone together. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#32PvP:
In regards to combat and such, we follow normal rules.
To attempt difficult maneuvers, like Kiph penetrating your mind or Curie turning your equipment against you, they would need to make successful mind probe and hack rolls.
Strictly speaking, Curie might have needed a skill roll to listen in on your little conversation, but in the interest of player survival and party cohesion I let it pass.
Offensive / threatening maneuvers will ALWAYS require a skill roll.
Persuasion is one honest exemption from the "player is a normal world character" rule.
Unless implanted with mind probe suggestions or drug forced or implanted with cerebral devices, a character is always free to follow his own agenda.
So, you cannot "charm" a character and say: "I sex you. We do it doggy style on the sofa"
You could implant the other character with a kama sutra implant and then operate sexual hormone stimulants under her skin, making her a savage sexual beast (but it wouldn't be kind to do so). :)
So, as long as the player is normal "free willed", he has last word.
A good player will take your skill roll and your skill level into account. Muro did just that. But in the interest of player integrity neither NPCs nor PCs can "persuade" or "charm" PCs.
PCs must be psionically, biologically or mechanically forced to do stuff against their will. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#33Ok, persuasion aside, if we were having a skill to skill contest, such as fencing or martial arts, how would it work?
eg:
Player A: roll fencing 1d100: 34, skill level: 40
Player B: roll fencing 1d100: 39, skill level: 58
How would the hit be decided? is it just on initiative? The social skills are just pass against your skill? How do you resist a persuasion/charm/ESP mind rape attempt? -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#34Players roll initiative (let us assume they both have average initiative of 5 + 1d4
Player A: Rolled 1d4+5 : 2 + 5, total 7
Player B: Rolled 1d4+5 : 1 + 5, total 6 -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#35Player B won, so she is first.
Player B fencing sword attack:
Rolled 1d100 : 47, total 47 against skill of 45
Player A attempts to DODGE the attack
Rolled 1d100 : 50, total 50 against skill of 33 -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#36They both missed, so player A could now attack
Rolled 1d100 : 99, total 99 against fencing skill of 55
Player B PARRY (uses fencing skill of 45)
Rolled 1d100 : 92, total 92 against 45 -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#37Player A fumbled his attack roll. He now rolls on the fumble table: http://ancient.strolen.com/Bleak%20Wood/RQFumbleTable.jpg
Rolled 1d100 : 38, total 38 -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#38"Shield strap breaks, lose shield also lose next attack"
Since Player A wore no shield, I'd say his belt lost it's buckle and the pants dropped down to his knees. He also lost his next attack, fumbling to get his pants back on.
And so on and so on, until someone did some damage. -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#39And so you say that there are no DODGE/PARRY equivalent for social attacks? -
Re: Bleak Wood Episode 3 OOC
#40Aha, I understand what you mean now.
Yes, in a social situation you will retort and reply and roll your dice to see the effect of your words. Even between PCs this is a fine way to gauge the effect of your words.
Of course, the quality of your speech will influence the die roll positively or negatively.
