Pick of the Day / Spotlighted Submission

1. Pick of the Day / Spotlighted Submission

The new tabbed interface is awesome, as is the HoH solution!

however I propose a solution for those old gems that rarely see the light:
A "pick of the day" randomly chosen sub (switching once per 24 hours) that is displayed uppermost on the main site, well, just below the header that is.

You could use HoH box colours, but show it like that yellow strip in Windows (when you need to install an ActiveX or what have you).

Voting and commenting on the daily sub would increase your xp gain by double, or perhaps just by +1.

Yes, a gimmick to bring forth some of our old subs and give them another chance at glory.

Do not make it an editorial pick, just a random one. Let all our subs have equal chance to end up in the spotlight. Also, strip the daily pick box to just the sub title, type and the text "Pick of the Day" (or The "Strolenite Vault's Daily", or similar)

   I like this idea.

I second this idea, lets have a random spotlight

I'd suggest that the post be more then 1 year old to qualify though.

   Yep!

We can plan all we want, but with his lordship absent our plans will remain plans (hidden on some dusty shelf).

Well, someone _Could_ randomly HOH a sub :)

So more about wanting something random stabilized for a full day vs. just a random list every page refresh?

I am wary of adding even more stuff to the frontpage, but could probably figure out how to stabilize a set, or couple, or 1 random daily....

Just one. Make it stand out. Reward people for voting on it. :)

Make it different from the rest of the randoms.

No extra anything at the moment, but did all the cron job and database crap to have a daily highlight.

   Top of frontpage.

I *think* it is working. Too scared to try it.

I made it have to be older than about 6 months.
Get an extra 5xp for commenting/voting on it.

Is that about what you were looking for?

Calling this one done, if there are issues then it will be a bug.

Yes, it is sweet! A little design tweak, and a mouse hover tooltip that informs of the xp gain for voting on it, and whoa, we are there!

    Sweet, milord!

The citadel is full of secrets and little surprises here and there. While we are getting easier to understand, there are still many little things that are undocumented and, for the most part, unnoticed. This may be one of the added perks people get without knowing it.

So.... It is gone.... The beloved daily highlight disappeared into the dark void of nonexistence!

My question is: On purpose, or accidental?

14. Re: Pick of the Day / Spotlighted Submission

Perhaps either the recent promotion or my HOH'ing of the spotlighted submission dispelled it.

15. Re: Pick of the Day / Spotlighted Submission

Well, there was a simultaneous promotion yesterday as well, and... I did HoH a sub. Yesterday it still showed.

Either a glitch, or Strolen didn't like it and removed it.

It was a removed one. Bug in other code that didn't update the show status. It will fix itself tonight. Randomness reigns supreme and it dodged Val's dispell Daily Highlight magic.
