Freetext Synonyms and other subjects
#1Do we have a preferred means for dealing with synonyms?
Eg. Treeman and Treant. Should we use both on the same sub, or pick the most likely of the two to be used?
I really am trying to eliminate single-entry freetexts where-ever possible.

Re: Freetext Synonyms and other subjects
#2If a single entry freetext is a good descriptor, I am fine with it. The purpose of freetext is to use them.
However, plurals, duplicates, misspellings and such that you are finding need to be purged.
I am a bit torn with the example as I think of Treant as a race. Would that evil stump that somebody wrote fit under Treant or Treeman? Sentient Tree? Just plain Tree?
Nope, still don't have an answer for you. -

#3Yes, we have a preferred way to deal with freetexts - and it is endless discussions. :)
I'd guess you should go with the size of the problem - if there's just the two pieces, you might solve it then and there; or you could consult the authors if they are active. Or you can ask here and see if you get a clear answer. ;)
And if there is a really big head-scratcher affecting the preferences of many, you can always make a public poll (I started some back in the day on Science Fiction vs. Sci-Fi... that one was actually meaningful).
Big thanks for caring! Freetexts need the occasional cleaning!
(Oh, and: Treant sounds better to me. Both are fine.)
