When Strolen returns there will be a main-site announcement, heaping kudos upon the worthy winners of Quest:Steampunk!

In the meantime, let us throw out some ideas for the next Quest. Need something kewl to hopefully get as many submissins as we did for Steampunk. That was a great turn-out!

So, without further ado, here is a suggestion provided by Silveressa. Using one blurb from one of the many 30 subs, to flesh out any one entry into a full-blown submission! Sounds fun, and we have many, many, 30's to choose from.

    Any other ideas?

Lets get a few more suggestions, and then throw up the Ol' Poll for voting.

Here is another idea. Comic Book Quest! Superheroes, supervillains, secret locations, comic-book style plots, and well, you get it.

    More ideas?

I've always been a fan of the 'monster' cultures, and I would love to see some of them fleshed out some more. I think they are too often used as nameless underlings and brutes, and that doesn't give them credit.
So here's hoping for something that spawns Gnoll Khans, Minotaur pirates and underworld empires of sentient fungus!

I cast my vote for the 30s quest.
  5. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

another option is taking a silly sub and making it serious while still retaining the basic elements of the original sub.
  6. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

Both sound good, but the expand-a-30 sounds the best so far.

Excluding use of one's own 30's though.

    Naturally.
  8. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

I'm throwing my vote behind Grey's first suggestion for a quest.

    Go go 30's!
  10. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    I like the 30s idea too.  :D

What about creating new unique monsters?

*New as in something that is not a manticore, Hydra etc. Be creative!

*Unique as in- there is only one! Not a family, a village or a bloody continent of your "Zgroozg's", only one!

Their backgrounds and explanations could be as diverse as the citadelians. Everything goes, it could be etheral, mystical, Fauna, Flora etc. But it must have some degree of intelligence and self awareness. It could be things living in roots, underneath rocks, inside lamps, shadows, light or snake with parrot head:) Everything goes but things like the Minotaur living in the maze is out;)

Catch my drift? Anyone against, for?

Well, thats 3 ideas. I'll make a voting poll.

    1. Expand-a-30
    2. Monster Cultures
    3. What Mike said.

    any more?
  13. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #13
Didn't we do Mike's already? Another time round wouldn't be all that bad, but I would swear it's been done.
  14. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #14
Yeah, but we've kinda already done mike's challenge...

I see no reason why we can't return to it once we've exhausted numerous other ideas. It's not like we're all leaving anytime soon.
  16. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #16
Lmao Chaos! It's similar, but we could tailor this one a bit more if you guys are up for it...
  17. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #17
    There are still more options:

Write something from your favorite science fiction (or fantasy) series/franchise. I want Jedi, I want Captains of Starships (or any officer of Star Fleet), I want SG teams, I want Serenity Characters, I want Officers of the Bloodguard, I want Heralds, I want Bene Gesserit, I want all those other oddly garbed leaguers that are in the background, I want Brown Coats, I want Witch Hunters, I want villains from said pieces, and I want... well you get what I want. You are not allowed to do a named character from the Franchise (books/series/whatever). The character still has to fit the setting.

POLL IS UP!!!!!!! Vote for the next Quest!
  19. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #19
It is never to soon to BUMP this  :P

The faster we get a dozen or more votes, the faster the next Quest is underway!
  20. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #20
I finally decided. Fanboy genre additions is good, and is my recommendation for the next quest, but I've gotta go with the 30s.
  21. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #21
BUMP again!  7 votes in. Need a few more, and we're off Questing!
  22. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #22
Why not do a quest that features both monster cultures and new and unique monsters?
Perhaps a culture of new monsters, or a culture of classic monsters being terrorized by a new monster?
  23. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #23
Well, you _Can_ do both, since if the quest is monster cultures, you can have the culture be of nre and unique monsters, or if the quest is new monsters, you can detail it's culture...

Requiring both would probably limit participation more then only requiring one detail.

So pick one and vote :P
  24. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #24
THe simpler and more broad the quest, the greater appeal it generally has. The War quest, and the most recent Steampunk quest drew quite a large amount of interest. On the other hand, the Five-in-One challenge brought in a whopping 5 submissions. Less is more, as the expression goes.

  25. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #25
Voting poll will stay up a few more days, but i think we have a winner.
  26. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #26
17 votes. I do believe we have a winner. Voting closed. EXPAND-A-30!!!!

Official Quest launch will be posted shortly!
  27. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #27
Yay, I look forward to it a lot.
  28. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #28
The new EXPAND-A-30 Quest will start on Monday, so you can already start by picking an entry or more.

    Make the small ideas great!
  29. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #29
A reminder folks, please include a link back to the 30 that you selected your choice from, and of course, vote on that 30!
  30. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #30
I will admit I was a little annoyed when I sat down and started reading some quest subs to put out some votes and comments (Lunch turned out poorly, the chicken was 2/5 so blech)

It is very very annoying the number of submissions that do not have any sort of link back to the 30 that the entry was drawn from. I know not everyone has the full grasp of BB code to do this, but seriously, there isnt even a text reference back in a good number of these submissions.

I think if you cannot link back to the 30 sub you wrote from your submission should be disqualified from the quest. I dont want to try and guess where it came from, or what the name of that list might have been.
  31. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #31
Perhaps the announcement of the begining of the quest  on the main site, could be amended to add a little reminder urging quest participants to link back to the original sub that inspired their quest entry?
  32. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #32
How directly should an entry relate to its inspiration - could I, for example, write an item from an NPC 30?
  33. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #33
The announcement has been updated a little, and it's a good idea! I would like to remind all the Quest participants to link to the submission that inspired them.

Also, seeing that some of the entries have a little strange names or summaries, I suggest to update them - while they make perfect sense now, remember the Quest will be over one day - and these submissions will stay around. :)

    But of course you could!
  34. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #34
Now a question to the public:

The Quest was started, as several others, by not accepting submissions based on own work. Shall we allow users to expand their 30's?
  35. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #35
I'm going to say no. Let others expand on your work, now there is nothing that says you cant flesh out a 30 entry of your own into a full submission, but I would say not for the quest.
  36. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #36
As if it wasn't already clear - the Quest is over. There's 22 submissions based on the Thirties!

Let's give it the rest of the week if anybody wants to vote on any of the submissions, then there will be the final selection.
  37. Re: New Quest Brainstorming

    #37
Ok folks. If you haven't yet, please go re-visit and vote for the "expand-a-30" subs. The voting poll will go up tonight. It looks like the criteria for finalists will be

    1. 3 or more votes
    2. 4.0 average or higher
