   A magical "rifle" powered with amythest *bullets* for the Acqua setting. There are two or three types-the most common shoots lightning, another type used by medics heals people, and a third type, only carried by high ranking officers, can cast more then one spell. Any thoughts on how to make it work?

   Kassil's Thuamatechnology submission should do the trick. The gus would basically be reloadable wands, they would be larger than regular wands and be more gunlike for needing room to place the amethyst 'bullets' and the glyphs.

   You wouldn't want to get those "bullets" mixed up. Maybe they ought to be different gems for the other functions. Perhaps a quartz crystal for the healing function (though why have it in a rifle?). For the multi-spell function how about a more valuable gem, perhaps a ruby or emerald...or how about this...banded agates are associated with all sorts of mystical functions - see wikipedia. Perhaps the more impressive (and expensive) the agate is the more spells it might contain?
