Decisions
#1Here is the scoop. I am going to Balad, Iraq in December. I will be gone for about 120days, Aprilish. I am going to be out of town from Nov 4-12 and then I am home 12-16 just chilling. After that I will be finishing up school and taking finals last week of November so will be around but not around around.
I just finished midterms and have some free time for the next couple weeks.
What I would LIKE is some solid beta testings of 3.0 for the next week. I can nail the things that you come up with for the next couple weeks. Then come Nov 13 or so, I can do the swap over when I will be home and have all the time I need to make sure it is a fairly seamless transition. Then we can finish polishing and fix whatever issues that may come up. I will continue to be around for the rest of Nov but that 5-day time will be the last real time I have to spend on the site. I would love to get the transition done!
If we find that it is not ready, well, then it is not ready. I have no problem dealing with that answer either. We are just looking at core features somewhat current to what is going on now. It just needs to work doing the basics, that is the goal.
I *think* that 3.0b is basically ready to go with the core features installed and ready. I don't have a good testing base to confirm that. I am going to start rolling through the features again this week and do some tests and double check.
I need testers for the next couple weeks. Hard and critical!

Can you hook me up? Can you overlook that I have been gone for like a month and jump into this?
I am thinking I will be somewhat available while deployed but not sure how much coding time I will have. My expectation is that the firewall will be less restrictive and I can spend some writing/commenting time on the site and we can continue polishing the ideas on how we want to implement the other major features you have been waiting for for years. As I mentioned before, the codebase of the new site is frick'n awesome and I have all confidence that I will be able spin out anything we come up with. It will come, eventually.

Re: Decisions
#2Will explore it, but need to be able to turn off the theme to a less colorful one.
First bug: Logged in. Clicked 'valadaar' looking to adjust my profile. http://readpostplay.com/user.php?node=2402
Second. My EXP is about 2000 short
Third: I have 100 votes and 100 HOHs....
Fourth: too much space devoted to Read Post Play. Have to scroll to see any submissions at all. With common attention spans, it will be overlooked - looks too much like an empty forum-site.
More as it strikes me...

Re: Decisions
#3Forum link should be more prevalent. Can only find it under Quick for now.
Link to Newish needs some unlinked basic text. The submissions linked there are not absolute introductory.
Hunting for - http://readpostplay.com/# - does not bring up anything, nor any but Newish.
Need to define WHAT is a meta item - an item which affects other items????

Re: Decisions
#4Oh, and I can golden my own subs. Woo!

Re: Decisions
#5Excellent. Thanks for starting the journey.
1) Oops. http://readpostplay.com/author/valadaar
2) Ignore XP, was doing a lot of edits that affected tons of things, plus that data that was brought over is months old.
3) Everybody will have those numbers, did a mass update for testing
4) Homepage, tell me about it. I think there are threads somewhere discussing it or it might have been flash chat. It is sort of on purpose. The homepage is for first time visitors, ever. Not for long time users so look at it from that perspective. Eventually, each user will have a customizeable homepage to set up so you will be able to have what you want on it. Look at the homepage from knowing absolutely zero about the site and see if that helps a little.
Keep them coming!!! YOU are AWESOME!
New post already, you are awesomely awesome.
Forum link -> perhaps
Newish -> that is the first experiment for all the following large linked pages on it. Once we get through Newish and make it happy, it will be a sort of template for the rest...which is why none of the rest work. They will come together quick once we get stabilized with Newish.
Meta Item -> Forgot about that. The definitions of each main selection will appear on the top of the page listing them. There will also be a link trail on top for easier navigation to know what you are reviewing.
Golden -> DOH!
((PS, you can do whatever you want to any post...it is ALL test data))

Re: Decisions
#7Does not seem to matter which sub.... -
Re: Decisions
#8Give it a try now. -
Re: Decisions
#9Yep, found some bugs. Log them and break some more stuff. Will be polishing over the next few days. The challenging is giving me issues now for some reason and is redirecting me to the homepage. -
Re: Decisions
#10Initial entry, not logged in:
Screen is about 25-30% wider than window, text seems huge
clicking on random submission
Page has a large amount of dead space, text is boxed into a column down the center of the page rather than filling it. Looks like ad space that didn't load.
I like the score inside the shield, and the XP prominently displayed beneath it
clicking on one of my own subs, still not logged in:
I can link back to subs that are in work, is that supposed to be like that?
block quote looks tight with the alternate color and hr bars rather than off color box
Also like the links being more visible
Logging in:
Log in box is superimposed over the villains quest logo, rather than being set to the left of the page, doesnt change after I log in. Societies button is blocked.
Looking at a scroll, I like the notion that each entry is an alternating color, but at first it looked like comments to the above entry rather than the next entry. What if scroll submissions could have an automatically bolded header?
Looking at my own profile page, i like the expandable sections for HoH nominations and such, but exanded lists dont close after opening. Might need a click again to close, or a minus button or something.
Looking at comment section, there is a word under the plus/minus symbol, it is cut in half longways and I cant read it.
I hope this helps some.
Salud!

Re: Decisions
#11How does one create a submission here?
I'd like to see if the new codebase has improved table handling... -
Re: Decisions
#12Tried adding a table to http://readpostplay.com/viewing/4849
Did not work so good...
