   Greetings Everyone!

Just a quick post to introduce myself. I'm a 38 y.o. Brit living in New Zealand who still has his 1st edition AD&D rulebooks.
I'm currently running a 4th Edition game for a group of 5 to 7 for about 3 hours per week. I'm trying very hard to pretend that 4th edition is a bit more than a tabletop miniatures skirmish system. Certainly the most enjoyable sessions we've had are the ones in which there has been very little combat.

So, I am looking for interesting ideas that do not necessarily lead to breaking out the grid paper.
In particular, I've long wanted to develop a well thought out fantasy city along the lines of Irilian, which featured in White Dwarf magazine about 5 years before it fell to the dark side. Any ideas regarding how to develop "the complete city" would be most welcome. I really want to learn from someone else's experience as to where to prioritize my time and effort.
