  1. Beta Testers Requested - Phase I

I need some help and my patience has wained tonight so I am asking for your help.

    http://www.readpostplay.com

If you have a bit of time and feel like humoring me, I would love it if you would explore V3.0 for a little bit and see how it is working. You can do anything you want to the subs as it is in a backup database so have a blast.

    Things that don't work:
    Replying to comments.
    Editing comments
    Freetext
    Settings/Library/and Quick drop down links.

Things that need to be tested:
Most everything that has a box or a link except the things mentioned above.

Request you take a close look at
    Adding submissions
    Editing submissions
Voting/adding/deleting comments and the subs stats
    Browsing the categories
    Comments on setup/format

    When you get an error
Please copy and paste the URL and the errors that show. If nothing else, the URL is probably the most important and what you were doing when it happened.

You can attach them to this thread so I can keep them together.

    I appreciate your help!

Found a very very minor error.

Whenever an admin edits a submission that is not theirs, they become the authors of that submission. No big deal. Will fix it tonight as a low priority. :)

not an error, but just from a format perspective I think we might want to put some sort of character limit in the summary section. It looks fine when a quick blurb pops up in the box, but it looks clunky when a long rambler (500 words plus) jumps out and covers a good portion of the screen

I agree. There are a couple summaries out there that really detract.

Have to do it in characters, including spaces. How many characters max would you think?

Edit: Made it 1000 characters to start.

Sorry man, but I'm not diggin' it. As Moon put it, I'm one of the few that "gets it" as it is now. And I'm afraid that I'm "not getting" 3.0. All those little pop up boxes as I moved my cursor down the screen actually made me nausious. And, I can't seem to find a way to add a submission or edit an old one. All in all, I have become very worried the Citadel I have come to love will vanish as I know it and I will have to learn to love all over again..  :(

I understand your reasons, but I dislike your methods. I really needed to get that off my chest, sorry to all who support this new site. I just don't love it at the moment.

    Bring it Pieh...

...and I don't think there is a link to add a submission come to think of it. :)

Those popups are me just having fun with some javascript and are just there now as I stopped messing with the index a bit ago.

Your feedback is exactly what I am looking for so don't be gentle, I can take it!

Ignore those quickies at the bottom and get into the main submissions using the menu links at top and start exploring that way.

The edit is pretty much where it is now, at the bottom of the submission.

Until I get to the links you can add a submission by going direct to http://www.readpostplay.com/index.php/submitting .

Thanks for taking a look Pieh!

Wasn't there for much of the development, so I'm giving the whole thing a ride now. (Working with FF 3.0 Beta. Also tried a peek with links.)

    Index page
    - if you float your mouse over a sub name in the wrong way, it will keep blinking (as the link is obscured and revealed again by the very same pop up window)
    - slightly increase the time period from mouseover to popup, to avoid windows jumping up into your face and lower the chance of having several at once
    - the login box is misaligned and flows into the menu. It should probably stay within the dark brown field. Reformat.
    - while other menu items open their menu downwards, Systems opens it to the left... oh wait, that is due to place constraints. Still a bit funny.
    - 'Settings' top link is a bit more apart from the others - intention or accident? There is a pseudo menu item  between the two.
    - top links that don't fit on one line get on another, different formatted line. While it is no problem on the main page, they somewhat mess up listing pages
    - clicking on the top link itself didn't bring me anywhere; the links in the opened menu open well (could be my FF); the first item in every menu is the same as its main link (and works)
    - Articles and some other topics in menus have 'none' in their links, apparently a sorting option
    - I really don't want to multiply the number of links, but I think the forums deserve their own link
    - Forum and Chat don't quite fit into the Library category - but they would do well in Quick. From there, Citadel Explained and Help could be moved to the Library.
    - "Read." - Our forums(link) are home to hundreds of very informational role playing threads and more, so don't pass those up either.
    - where is the regular search function?

Upon login from the main page, I received a notice:
    A PHP Error was encountered
    Severity: Notice
    Message: Undefined variable: admin_link
    Filename: citadel/vheader.php
    Line Number: 27

The login succeeded. The notice stays.

    Submission view:
    - Submitted and Updated could be in one place, both in tiny script. The submission type could be then aligned with the title for quiet symmetry.
    - I am not sure about the XP being the most important information besides the Title - but it looks to be that right now
    - as my testingaccount, I had access to the Edit link... could be because it considered me to be ephemeralstability for some reason(?!) The profile on the top was correct, but the comments I made was ascribed to him. (#)
    - can't delete my comments (may be a side effect of the above)
    - submitting a comment, etc leads to the numerical link instead of the title link - don't know what is the current status/agreement on that
    - anonymous users can see the plus/minus links

Lastly, logout puts me into the forum logout page, displays "Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again. ", and actually logs me out of the forums. I stay logged in the main Citadel.

That's it for today, next time we'll take a closer look at submitting. Man, this checking feels almost like work. ;)

Dumped the javascript floating summaries - they were when I was on a javascript jaunt which I got over...again. I don't want Pieh to puke.

Login Box- Will just dump that box for now as it is a pain to align. Opera looks pretty though. :)

Settings is aside because it is empty, I should dump it until we have them I guess. I am having issues with that top link not being clickable so added that second. Haven't had time to tackle it as it is some javascript thing and I don't know what is happening.

The "none" in the links is a long story but necessary in order for them to work. Maybe I should change it to "any" as that is what it means, but each one is a sub category and depending on what order they are in the database the first or second part has to be none to get the query to work correctly.

With the link wrap issue on the top, we are running out of room for links but I understand your point. May have to come up with something. I moved the links around as mentioned.

Did some of the formatting. Will mess with the votes/comments.

    Thanks!!!

Ready for round II if anybody has a few moments.

I got rid of the menu links that don't work so you should be able to click on anything.

Freetext is now working as well.
