Turn threads into pdf's
#1I'll just straight to the heart of the matter; would it be possible to include into the sites capability a program to turn a thread into a pdf that can then be saved to the persons computer?
This would make it soo much more convenient to save threads you find useful for your game without having to repeatedly cut/paste it into note pad or MS word .
An example to see this in action is at this site, click on the pdf version button above the thread: http://www.kult-rpg.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=3354&title=28+Weeks+Later -

#2Well, in a word...
Yes.
My thought was not so much each submission (they will have a simplier print screen for quick prints) but to use the pdf in conjunction with an advanced favorites section. You could go through saving all the posts to your favorites that you may want to use in a game or gather them in a theme and then organize them a bit and let that create a customized pdf. -

#3Google Docs allow you to import a web page - the print page for a sub works well - and then convert it to a .pdf files. I did it to backup most of my stuff offline, though it took a while :) -
Re: Turn threads into pdf's
#4I like the idea of an advanced favorites, perhaps being able to organize your favorites into sub folders of your own creation would be perfect since we all organize things differently.
I for one would like to be able to make custom folders I could label along the lines of my campaign titles. (Legacy of the Crying Crown, Bitter Pride, etc..) and then inside those folders further sub folders split between npcs, monsters, items etc.. This would make finding a sub for game x section x infinitely faster. (My computer is the center piece of my game mastering tool kit) -

#5An article describing your structure in detail may be a worthy submission in itself :)

#6Silveressa, I think you are my twin separated at birth.
That is somewhat my dream for it. And then the ability to name the list and then either hide or share those lists somewhat akin to how amazon.com and their lists work. As people are browsing different plots they will be offered people's compiled lists with a short description as yet another way to showcase submissions. These would just be standard lists ordered by the user.
What you describe with subcategories (folders) is more akin to the "Worlds" section that I have been trying to build since I started on V2.0 of the site. V2.0 just wasn't ready, structually, for it. There was too much hacking to make it work. V3.0 is more modular in creation so the creation of "Worlds" will be much easier and more seamless with the rest of the site.
Here is some reading on those topics. Feel free to add your thoughts!

#8Still an AWESOME idea!! -
Re: Turn threads into pdf's
#9Just a small nudge to see if the concept of subs to .pdf's is any closer to reality? -
Re: Turn threads into pdf's
#10Not close unfortunately. Need to get a print preview working first, then will use that output to push into a pdf.
Still an awesome idea though! :) -

#11By the way Silveressa, I was not joking about your organization system as being a worthy article. -

I could present it as a sub, although some sort of visual display would likely work better, well a combination of the two actually. What the heck, it sounds like a fun little project to spend an otherwise dull evening on. :D
Edit:
Not quite an evening (Barely a couple hours) but hopefully a sub others will find useful.
