Anybody that knows something about this want to research it and come up with something appropriate to the site?

    http://creativecommons.org/

Could even offer each author the opportunity to choose the one they want to associate with their work with a standard one being the default.

I'm poking around it right now.  Near as I can tell without wading through the gov't copyright site, CC gives you the legal forms that define what a person can and can't do with a licensed work, but in the US at least, if you want to actually *do* anything with the copyright in court if it becomes necessary, you have to register the copyright.

Quoting from their FAQ page: "We're much like a legal self-help press that offers form documentation -- at no cost -- for you to use however you see fit."  They don't provide any legal assistance, just the proper legalese for what you want.

I'm going to look through it some more, but right now, I don't see any reason why it would be a *bad* thing.  Since I'm already seriously considering applying some of these to my own works, I'll see what I can find that would work site-wise.
