Ajax Goodies
#1I have lists all over. The ones I *really* like but won't necessarily use. Feel free to post Ajax goodness here and comment on any that are posted.

#2Ajax degradability:

http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2008/January/javas.php
http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2008/January/browser.php
Not sure if it is going to be a primary concern. Stuff will still work, but it might be inconvenient to have javascript disabled.
From the stats, I should be more worried about the horribleness of IE6 and how it will render the pages. I don't have a test version 6 to even look at it and everybody knows v6 sucks bad at compliance.
True, can't trust statistics all the way, but I think it is a pretty good guage. I should be more worried about IE6 rendering issues than people not using javascript.

Re: Ajax Goodies
#3For intra-browser compatibility issues, and tons of JavaScript/CSS/HTML/browser information, consult quirksmode. Very recommended.
I have IE6 installed on my Linux, so I might be able to help out some. (If you want it yourself, get IEs4Linux, which smoothly gives you any of IE5.0, IE5.5, IE6.0 and even a beta of IE7, all in one instal. Very nifty for playing with dynamic functionality.) -

A few cool things. Specifically the wordpress accepting/deleting of posts, and the actual deleting of posts. Other cool stuff too. -

#5Moon, here is your codex page. :)

Needs to be dynamically loaded but it is still there in principle. -
Re: Ajax Goodies
#6This is almost like manfred's manifesto
Progressive Enhancement are the keywords I have been reading about lately.
In a nutshell: Get the site working with no javascript. Introduce javascript for only those that have it enabled and leave the function of the site as it is originally created for the rest. Let the browser and javascript recode the portions you want the javascript on and treat javascript like a css file, separated. Techniques are sound and easy to implement.

#9Is that the new gallery? -
Re: Ajax Goodies
#10Very much thinking the gallery way.
I also really like the "Scrolling HTML content". Combine that with the ajax. That might be the solution to the monster codex that we have thought about before which I haven't implemented. Instead of the entire codex and text being downloaded, we show the king codex with the index. The index can open each codex in that window and it is readable/commentable/voteable and then you can return to the main codex by closing it. I wasn't happy with the basic ajax way of doing it but think I like this approach. -
